For Insulin Resistance Syndrome "When I first started taking this medication, it was horrible. I had extreme fatigue, stomach cramping, abnormal bowel movements, and even threw up blood a few times. Despite all of this, I lowered my dosage but stayed on the medication and I've never felt better. After around 3 weeks of that, I started feeling normal and dropping weight. I'm down 25lbs combined with only a healthy diet. It suppresses my appetite, but not enough to cause any harm. I am on 500mg 2x a day. Give the medication a chance a lot of people have to take it for a couple months for it to work properly."

For Insulin Resistance Syndrome "Hadn't been to the doctor in years for a regular checkup. Noticed that over the course of 10 years I had steadily gained weight despite eating fairly healthy. I chalked it up to menopause and stress. Went to my pcp because I was having anxiety issues. She ran labs. Was told that I was "obese", A1C was 6.4 and glucose was 100 (I had just eaten lunch). I was put on 500mg dose with dinner. I haven't changed my diet, I was already eating fairly healthy, but I have lost 10 pounds in 10 days!!! I was light-headed the first few nights, and had loose stools around day 3. But other than that I feel great! I will report back after my next A1C check in May."

For Insulin Resistance Syndrome "I have low testosterone, high blood pressure , and over-weight {291lbs}) for the past 20 years. I started Metformin in mid-January and worked my way up to a dose of 2000mg per day. As of today (May 27, 2020), I have lost a total of 53 pounds and it has reduced my appetite by more than half. My blood pressure is starting to drop to the point of needing to have my meds adjusted. I am mountain biking again. I am feeling great. I have some of the side effects, but they are minimal. All my issues seem to have a connection to insulin resistance. I suggest doing your own research and talking to your doctor. Based on my research online, It seems this amount of weight loss is highly unusual."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "A month ago, I was placed on Metformin ER 500 mg twice a day after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (HbA1C of 7.9). I, like so many on this forum, experienced violent diarrhea for the first 7 to 10 days, which then suddenly ceased. For the first time in my life, I have since experienced life as someone without a weight problem. I no longer think about food ruminatively, have to remind myself to eat, and I stop eating when full (eating smaller portions than previously). I have not had my blood glucose re-tested yet so can not speak to the effectiveness of Metformin for glucose control, but I expect much improvement, even at this sub clinical dose. I have been losing 2 to 3 lbs per week without much effort. It has been life changing."

For Insulin Resistance Syndrome "My endocrinologist put me on Metformin for what he diagnosed as metabolic syndrome. My general physician sent me to him because he thought I was pre-diabetic. My triglycerides were through the roof....3500 at one point! Prior to starting Metformin I had worked on improving my diet, watching calories and quality of foods I ate and I had seen some moderate weight loss. Once on the metformin, my triglycerides dropped 90% (from 3500 to 350) and the pounds began to drop away....several pounds every few weeks to the point that I am down 42 pounds (from 220 down to 178) in about 4 months. All while still battling my alcohol consumption at 7 to 10 beers a night (99 calories a piece) which is 750 to 1000 calories per night."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "Took Metformin 500mg twice a day for 5 weeks and I really wanted to stay on it because my insurance covered the total cost. By the second day, I developed diarrhea. Daily trips (more than 10) to the bathroom increased because of bad diarrhea. I took the medicine with a meal that included bread, but the extreme diarrhea persisted. Weight dropped from 196 to 189 lbs. Had problem with increased thirst and constant dry mouth. Glucose still increased to 255. Alternated taking Pepto Bismol and Amodium AD for days trying to control diarrhea. I was concerned about leaving home because of the severe diarrhea. I started to feel dizzy. My mood became negative and I wondered if absorption of my antidepressant was being affected. Finally after the 5th week of Metformin twice a day, I informed my PCP about all my side effects. He had me stop the Metformin and put me on 10mg of Jardiance. The diarrhea, severe thirst, dry mouth, dizziness and bad mood all stopped. 59 year old female."

Glucophage (metformin) for Insulin Resistance Syndrome "So far, I have been on Glucophage for 2 1/2 weeks for Insulin Resistance due to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I had a little nausea and diarrhea the first two days. By day three or four, I had no more negative side effects. It worked very quickly, I quickly began to lose weight and started menstruating again. My skin also began to clear up within the first week. Glucophage helps so many of the terrible issues caused by PCOS. I need more time to better evaluate the medicine, but so far it is like a miracle. If it is taken with food, the side effects are negligible."

Glucophage (metformin) for Diabetes, Type 2 "Metformin (Glucophage generic) works very well without any side effects (maybe a small bit of diarrhea and gas - but that helps getting rid of my constipation). I am NOT overweight. In great shape with running, playing tennis and golf, etc. Age 65. Never was overweight. Got diabetes from drinking way too much Coca Cola and eating too much sweets (donuts, cake, candies, etc.). Always burned off the sugar so never put on weight. Never knew sugar was a poison that affects metabolism. Started taking metformin (3 X 800 daily dosage two years ago. With diet changes, brought down my blood glucose level from 358 to 130, and A1C from 15.9 to 6.7. Not out of the woods yet, but huge improvement and metformin is the only drug that works for me"

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "Started taking Metformin 2 weeks ago 1500mg daily to treat PCOS. Periods have improved significantly. Leg and back pain has completely disappeared and I have lost 10kg since starting Metformin, I didn't even manage to lose 1kg in 3 months while on a low calorie diet so that's great. My mood is much better and my facial hair and acne seems to have also disappeared. Feel like a completely different person on this medication."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I have been taking Metformin ER for 10 years. It was working fine. Recently supplier was switched from Teva to Amneal. I found Amneal to cause high blood sugar and I discontinued. Switched to another supplier and BS is normal. I found out today Amneal is recalling Metformin ER 7 lots. I was taking a recalled lot. Recall is for higher level of carcinogenic contamination in these lots. Please report any adverse effects"

For Diabetes, Type 2 "Metformin has side effects like diarrhea, WHEN I have sugar (regular sugar, fructose and artificial sugar - it does not care). Eat poorly, guaranteed to have diarrhea. Also headaches if sugar spikes quickly, again food choices do this. If I just really want a bite of pizza or candy bar, I eat healthy (lots of vegetables and salad, protein) with NO processed foods, NO breads/pasta/potatoes/rice, and at end of meal have 1-2 bites Savor and stop. I give myself a treat ONCE a month. Keep sugars down to 80-130 by diet and one Metformin 500mg a day. Eat too much at a meal, walk or exercise to burn the carbs. Burn too much and you get shaky or a headache. Water is key too. Water pulls sugar down (dilutes and flushes it out of the fat cells."

For Insulin Resistance Syndrome "OK so I am prediabetic and on Day 4 of metformine. So far so good. My energy level's increased. Slight reduction in appetite. I hope this keeps up, I'd like to loose weight and found it a challenge with my insulin spiking throughout the day. I'd get hungry, craving starchy foods in the later part of my days which made it difficult to keep up with my diets. With metformin, I don't think of food as much. I am more mindful of my food intakes."

For Insulin Resistance Syndrome "Been on metformin for a month. Only first two days had a bad headache. When I started taking it I was 102kg heavy. Now I'm 94kg. But I mean when I was diagnosed with insulin resistance I quit alcohol, sugar and lactose. Started working out more. My endocrinologist told me to also take vitamin D and vitamin B12 so I guess that also helped. I have literally no side effects. I haven't felt happier and healthier in my life."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "(54) yr old male: Metformin worked very quickly to lower my blood glucose levels from almost 400 to progressively down to avg of 130 within 10 days. My only complaint is the side effect of very noticeable BLURRED vision and soreness around my eyes. I have always been blessed to have 20/20 vision so this is not something I am used to. I am willing to deal with this side effect as long as my glucose levels are back to normal. As we all know, a lifestyle change with regard to diet and exercise is a MUST. My situation was a "wake up call" and my plans are to eventually be weaned off Metformin within 6 months. Be encouraged and don't give up. "

My doctor started metformin in August of 2014 and by September dropped 10lbs and by December a total of 28lbs. I'm 5'2 and that brought me back to about 128, a healthy weight! I found out in Febuary of 2015 I was pregnant!!! I had a healthy baby boy in Oct 2015 and I believe it was metformin!!!"

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "This's my first time writing a review. I'm doing this today to share my experience with you beautiful ladies, who are having difficulties conceiving due to pcos. I'm 31, My period had been irregular since I was 14, Some times I don't menstruate for a whole year. I was misdiagnosed at first and in 2015 I had a proper diagnoses which happen to be pcos. My husband and I got married in 2014 since then we started trying to conceive with no luck for one year. My OBGYN put me on metformin 500mg daily, I took it for three months my period never came and I talk to my endocrinologist, she increased my dose gradually to 2500mg max. Two weeks later my period came and the following month I got pregnant with my daughter! She's 8months and 2 weeks"

For Female Infertility "I was diagnosed with diabetes in October. A doctor I was recommended to see has prescribed me Metformin to help me with my blood sugar level. It was pretty bad. But she forgot to inform me that this medicine help to ovulate women or help them get pregnant. I didn't know that all I know I wanted to get my sugar level on control. So after I took them about one month after I got pregnant. I really didn't want to get pregnant or wasn't trying because I have two kids already. And I wasn't planning to have more AT ALL. By January I found out I was a month and a half. I was surprised I cry so much because I didn't want this is not that I don't love kids because I do I have two boys and I love them so much. It just is hard is really hard to bring a baby in this life we live in. But I as a mother of two would bring this baby into this world healthy and full of love. Sorry my story is long but I just wanted to tell someone about this experience."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome 2 years ago. Unfortunately it took several doctors and a 150 pound weight gain for someone to realize what was going on. During the 2 years since I was diagnosed my doctor has had me try everything and nothing has helped. Finally she decide to give me metformin. I've been on it for 10 days now. I'm currently only up to 1000 mg, but I've already lost 5 pounds. I've hardly had any side effects. Also my facial hair growth has slowed and I'm breaking out less."

For Female Infertility "I am currently on Metformin, my husband and I have been trying for 3 years to no avail. So far I am having all the pregnancy symptoms and do not want to get my hopes up as its been a roller-coaster ride for the both of us. I have nausea, heartburn, sore/tender breast (only left one), and other symptoms. I am not due for a period for another week, but my last one was longer and lighter. Hopefully I can get a positive but at this time I am thinking it is the metformin side effects. Wish me luck!"
