For Underactive Thyroid "Upon 5 days of taking Cytomel at a dose of 5 mcg per day, I had burning rashes on chest up to my ears. Was taken to ER 3x for tachycardia, heart failure, thyroid failure, sweating, confusion, arythmia, panic attacks, nausea, pain, twitching on left side of body and more. Thyroid failure continued after stopping medication still til today not recovered. It is 10 months after the fact and I have permanent damage. Tachycardia, nervous system, thyroid dysfunction, hair loss, excessive weight gain, 4 hrs of functionality per day at most. I lost the ability to work and function like a normal person at 43 years old. I cannot exercise nor do simple chores without raising heart rate excessively and blood pressure. I had perfect blood pressure and heart function prior to taking Cytomel."

For Underactive Thyroid "Glad this med has helped some, but for me it was a four-year nightmare. The anxiety was horrendous. As in disabling. Sweating, temper was on a hair trigger, hot flushing on my back, (TSH around 0). Even went into the hospital for two days to have my heart checked out, which was fine. I started noticing I would feel more normal each time the med dose was missed. Started coming down 1/4 pill at a time and each time it helped. Finally came down to 1/4 pill in addition to my 88 mcg Levo. I was exhausted by 11 am, and my TSH was 6, but at least I wasn't peeling myself off the ceiling and I was calm. Finally went off it entirely, and the anxiety, although not completely gone, was vastly improved. I upped my Levo to 100 mcg and felt dramatically better. It's in process now and I wish I had not wasted four years of my life on this med."

For Underactive Thyroid "I self diagnosed that my body wasn’t converting my synthroid into T3, and an endocrinologist agreed. I tried reducing Synthroid and adding desiccated T3 first, felt great, but I broke out with acne. Cytomel has worked in giving me much more energy, I can get by on 7/8 hours sleep instead of needing 10! I had arm pain at first, which went away with altering the dosage, then some unexplained abdominal pain, that disappeared. I am very happy with cytomels effects in giving me more energy! I used to need to take a cat nap at work to get through the day!"

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I've been on Synthroid, Levoxyl, or Levothyroxine for the past 11 years at a suppressive dose and did fine. When my endocrinologist took me off of TSH suppression by lowering my dose of T4 I was miserable. Within in weeks I was exhausted, cold all the time, had brain fog, was depressed, and needed additional sleep. When I told my endocrinologist she continued to lower my dose (twice) because my TSH was suppressed. This caused me to be completely disfunctional at work and at home...I was so exhausted and everwhelmed I feared losing my job and my husband (no libido for over 6 months) and low productivity at work. I begged my endocrinologist to add T3. The dose was too low at first to make a difference but after reestablishing with a new"

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on Cytomel for a couple of years. Then my dose got increased along with my Synthroid medication dose. I began having tremors, heart palpitations and tachycardia. It was a terrifying experience! My symptoms almost entirely went away when going off this medication but, I feel as though my heart was dramatically affected and I don't know yet whether or not it was actually even damaged."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Cytomel is causing debilitating symptoms such as severe muscle cramps/spasms and muscle pain, insomnia, ravenous appetite, profuse sweating, palpitations. When I stopped taking it, I got better. I tried to reintroduce it and to my horror, the severe spasms returned. The prescribed muscle relaxers hardly work. The endocrinologist said my symptoms are not related to the prescribed medication or to my thyroid condition!! I disagree. I've had problems with Armour in the distant past. For some reason, I can't take cytomel or armour long term."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have had hypothyroidism for years proceeding menopause, and it was worse during menopause. Doctors always prescribed one of the big three, like Levothyroxine, with combination T3 and T4. I had bad reactions to all. It was only after I did the research that I found this T3 only option. Luckily, my current doctor let me try it (Nov. 2020). Two hours after taking one 5 mcg pill I felt better. My mood lifted and my mind was clearer. I had the energy to complete a work day. It has been a godsend. We have slowly increased my dose... two pills, three pills and four pills (20 mcg) a day. Any more is too high for me. While initially I had the occasional headache when I first woke up in the morning, that is gone now. No other side effects. No weight loss, but holding steady. I work out a lot (now I have energy) and try to stay under 1,000 calories/day to maintain. No hair regain, but no big hair loss either. Female - 54 yrs."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have a little more energy on Cytomel. I was born with hypothyroid. I relented on going on synthroid in 2002 in hopes of losing weight and went off in 2015. My last dose was 200mcg. I never felt energetic on synthroid and it didn't make me thinner. I took a blood test in 2015 and found my reverse T3 was high and my doctor put me on cytomel. I lost 5 pounds when my meds were changed (not a significant amount in the scheme of life but I overeat so I can't really blame the drug) and I have noticed no ill side effects. I'm happy."

For Underactive Thyroid "I've been on synthroid for 9 years now. I have been on a roller coaster ride the whole time with my dosage from 150mcg a day down to 125mcg always fluctuating depending on symptoms. Now I have just seen a new endocrinologist to try to have my thyroid removed due to large nodules and the hashimotos thyroiditis and all the non-stop issues stemming from the thyroid, so the new endo puts me on 5 mcg of cytomel and I have the opposite reaction from it, I had some tightness in chest, blurred vision and it knocked me out for near 7 hours after taking it the first and second dose of it the next day. Not really knowing if that's an adverse reaction from it but I stopped taking it, I don't understand how a medication that is supposed to reverse fatigue and boost my energy does the exact opposite. I am now currently take 137 mcg of synthroid and need to have the thyroid excised so the auto immune response will be lessened so I can be less symptomatic and have somewhat of a normal immune system."

For Underactive Thyroid "Cytomel is amazing. I was on Synthroid (levothyroxine) for a while and I still felt terribly hypothyroid. Then got into Armour Thyroid and became a functioning human again. Then added Cytomel to my Armour and now I can say that I have my life back. It’s a shame that doctors are hesitant to prescribe T3 medications like Cytomel and Natural Dessicated Thyroid (NDT) like Armour. Synthroid barely ever works for anyone and they make it so hard to get the medicine that actually helps. Big pharma wants to keep us all sick and on ineffective medicines. I had to go to 3 different endocrinologists before one allowed me to start taking Cytomel. Take control of your life people! Pro tip: if you feel jittery and hyperthyroid on one dose of Cytomel and then after decreasing it, you feel hypothyroid, you need to multi-dose the higher dose. That means you need to take more than one dose a day! It being spread out will keep you from being jittery and hyperthyroid."

For Underactive Thyroid "Cytomel gave me the worse side effect symptoms of my life in just in 3-4 days. I got severe water retention, chest pain, rash on my body, and dehydration. I just took time afterwards to negate the side effects of this drug. Can't wait to flush out this from my body and will never ever take it."

For Underactive Thyroid "Was on generic liothyronine for about 5 weeks because Cytomel wasn’t available. Felt like a windup toy whose spring had unwound-horrible muscle pain, weakness, couldn’t think, and constant background pain. Today, finally got my Rx of Cytomel. The difference is remarkable. Within 1 hr my muscles started relaxing. Three hours later and my mental acuity is back. There truly is a difference between generic and brand name. I would never have known that were it not for my shrewd doctor. This is like a miracle drug that restores my life. I take 5MCG, 2x daily Cytomel and 50MCG 1x daily of Synthroid."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "My body doesn't convert T4 to T3 properly, and mostly makes reverse T3, so I was always hypothyroid, even when one endo prescribed such a large dose of Synthroid that I started going into a thyroid storm. This was before the surgery for fibrous variant Hashimoto's that made my thyroid gland so hard it was affecting my breathing, and 3 biopsies could not recover any tissue to check for cancer. After surgery, I could breathe better and did not have cancer, but until one doctor tested my reverse T3 and Free T3, checked the ratio, and figured out I didn't have enough T3 and prescribed Cytomel, I was in thyroid hell for all those years. Now I am not. If he hadn't figured it out I would be dead now from TRMDD causing me to have episodes of suicidal ideation. I can also think clearly. No more thyroid hell! The medication is prohibitively expensive, but can be compounded for less, although it is still pricey. I take 1-1/4 of a 25 mcg Cytomel tablet, divided for BID, and 12.5 of Synthroid."

For Underactive Thyroid "I self diagnosed as hypo several years ago after suffering from almost every classic hypo symptom, but with ‘normal’ TSH labs. A non traditional Endo finally agreed with me after testing more than just my TSH and considering my symptoms. But finding something that worked has been hard. I felt almost worse on T4 alone. Armour thyroid helped for awhile but then I began crashing and found my reverse T3 numbers had skyrocketed. My doctor pulled the AT and started me on 25 mg of cytomel. Within a day, my constant headaches were gone and I felt lighter and more energetic. It’s only been a week but I’m optimistic"

For Underactive Thyroid "I gained 25 lbs on an antidepressant over 9 months. I have tapered off but no weight loss. Have some fatigue, low temp. Doc said although the rest of blood panel of tests was ok he would like to see my Free T3 around 3. It was 2.56. I took my second dose this a.m. 5 mcg. Same both days. Anxious, dizzy, feel like I'm weak in legs. Tearful - almost foggy. Doc said it was low dose and I might feel better, or notice zero change. No more for me....I don't like the way it makes me feel."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have Hashimoto's disease, and hypothyroidism with it. I was on Tirosint for a while and all the other T4 medications: Levothyroxine, Synthroid, Tirosint. This Cytomel makes me feel amazing and turns my brain back on immediately after taking it. Cytomel also seems to get rid of almost all the horrible joint pain and muscle aches from the other thyroid medications. It also helps to reduce my muscle stiffness and gets rid of those pesky muscle spasms. I think that all the T4 drugs actually cause more pain all over the body, but they are usually effective at getting rid of hypothyroid symptoms. I noticed this after I forget to take my Synthroid for one day, less pain but more fatigue."

For Underactive Thyroid "Takng Synthroid for Hashimoto’s and continued to have fatigue, muscle aches and cramps. Adding Doctor generic Liothyronine was like taking nothing. Switching to brand name Cytomel 5 mcg 2x daily, I felt normal first time in 10 years. Muscle aches/cramping gone, good energy and mental focus returned. I have my heart under control and I’m still on Cytomel. Hair loss I've also had, and you need to have your selenium levels tested. I had some doctor prescribed supplements I had to stop because they contained selenium and it built up. Right now the biggest problem is that I can’t GET my Cytomel Rx filled because Pfizer has some backorder that’s gone on for two months with no explanation. I have to take generic liothyrinine for now; fatigue and muscle cramps are back."

For TSH Suppression "Thyroid cancer patient and TSH was high, T3 was low. Was hypothyroid , gaining weight, lethargic, and always tired. Mood had been terrible for the last 2 years post thyroidectomy. Asked my oncologist to add Cytomel as a last option to boost my mood, energy and metabolism. Added 10 mcg of Cytomel to my 150 Synthroid and within a couple weeks I feel a lot better emotionally and mentally. Weight loss has been about 5 lbs so far with no negative side effects. It seems to be helping stabilize my mood and energy levels are up!"

For Underactive Thyroid "Cytomel works, but you have to make sure you are on the correct dose. Some people need a very high amount of T3 in their system, some very little. I’ve heard of a doctor who was on 400 mcg of T3 a day. I was taking 150 mcg per day, splitting it into two doses (while low carb). My hair did not fall out. It can shed for the first 3 to 6 months, but then it grows back in. I’ve always had very thick hair and Cytomel kept it that way. If you take too much, or too little, I imagine this may cause your hair to shed. If you do not heal the underlying medical issue, and eat poorly, you will need to take more and more over time and your doctor may not approve the higher dose, so you’re left with hypothyroidism even on T3. You must change your diet. If you’re someone who hasn't changed your diet (removed wheat gluten, grains, sugar, nightshades, etc.) and you feel well and slim/healthy on T3, that’s very rare, especially if you have Hashimoto's. Eat well (red meat, etc.)"
