Humalog KwikPen (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 1 "I called Humalog to ask if they could possibly borrow the technology used by Levemir for pens, as the Levemir pens are far superior. The Humalog pens constantly leak, even after leaving in the skin for up to 10 seconds after injection, insulin constantly runs out of the needle after you pull the needle out after injection and it of course stinks. There are constantly bubbles in the pen that are often times not removable. I did call Humalog, and they walked through their protocol steps to problem solving, but none of it worked. I'm very curious as to why I never have any of these problems with my Levemir pens. Can the technology be so different, and why can't Humalog work towards that type of superior product?"

Humalog KwikPen (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 1 "I have been diabetic type 1 for 35 years. My diabetic nurse persuaded me to use the Humalog KwikPen, 3 months ago. I used to use Humalog and a syringe. Since switching I’m injecting 5 times the number of units I used to and my sugars are still high. Not only do I believe the quality/strength of the insulin is not the same, it’s infuriating the pens keep sticking, so one can’t deliver the quantity selected in one jab. I am stopping using the KwikPens right now. I’ve had enough. My sugar controls of the past have been good. I do not want to jeopardise good control by using this substandard equipment."

Admelog (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 1 "So I know I literally just started using this insulin today, but I didn't make my blood sugars go up as the others here I've read reviews about how it doesn't work for some. I know I just started but I must say I was super scared and nervous when I was told I would have to use this insulin , due to the fact that my insurance didn't want to cover Novolog anymore, I couldn't sleep thinking about it last night , because I knew today was the day I would have to change my Insulin cartridge today , I'm currently on the tslimx2 and at first I didn't like it the pump of course but now I love it . It maybe It depends on each person perhaps that's the case"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I have used Humalog and Novalog interchangebly for years, with great results. I have NOT tried Sanofi's insulin lispro (Admelog); however, I recently got a bottle of Eli Lilly's generic insulin lispro. My blood glucose levels were consistently higher while I was on it. These levels returned to normal once I started back on Novalog. This generic lispro was slow on the uptake (more like "Regular" insulin), then it is crash and burn about 3.5 hours later, then not much left after that. I did not feel well on this insulin in a way that was different from the feeling of an elevated blood glucose. I had some foot swelling as well as tenderness in the region of my kidneys. I don't believe that I imagined this. This insulin is certainly better than nothing for an insulin dependent diabetic; however, I wouldn't choose to take it due to the side effects and I think that more research is definitely warranted."

Humalog KwikPen (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 2 "A sub standard product which is not fit for purpose, the pen keeps jamming so you have no idea how much insulin has actually been injected. It does not click when the insulin has been administered. Unlike other insulin pens and the company do not want to take responsibility for a product that should not be sold. They say the pen is jamming because the users are not putting a new needle on or not administering the insulin correctly. Take if off the market."

Humalog KwikPen (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 1 "Humalog KwikPens are horrible!! I have been a type 1 diabetic for 46 years and they have thrown my normally good control way out of whack. The Humalog insulin from vials works okay but that in the KwikPens doesn't. Much of the problem is due to never being sure how much insulin I'm getting, if I'm getting any insulin at all. I dial the appropriate amount of insulin based on my blood sugar and carb counting, but the device rarely dispenses the correct amount. That's after priming the pen several times. I can't afford to switch to Novolog because my private health care insurance, for which I pay almost $18,000/year, won't authorize it. I was able to get an exemption for Novo Nordisk's Tresiba pen and it works tons better than Lilly's KwikPens. I get the amount of insulin I dial up with Novo Nordisk's product. So I'm going back to the vial and needles. I'm going to ask my diabetes doctor at MassGeneral to give me a prescription for the vial Humalog."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "This is life threatening, do not trust this medication. I have been on insulin since the early 90's and on my (many) versions of insulin I have been able to somewhat control my sugar. I have had many times in which my levels would climb to over 400-500 and had emergency care. I have been on this for a few months and I cannot control my levels, some days I will use a pen and all is OK, but then 50% of the time I get a pen that does nothing, tonight for example I took my normal amount at my normal time, I felt bad so I check my sugars, 3 hours after taking the injection and my meter read high glucose over 600 on multiple tests to ensure machine did not error. This stuff is dangerous to the point of being life endangering. It has put me in the ER 3 times in the past 5 weeks. I am contacting the company on this issue as it has become a liability"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I have been a pump user for over fifteen years on Humalog. My A1C's were in the 6.8 - 7.4 range, but the last 8 months have shyrocked to 9.5 - 9.9 with difficulty getting BG down below 240. I too have been switched by my insurance (blue) to lispro. Going back, I see thats when the change in insulin happened. WARNING: Don't use this insulin, report this to your Dr."

Humalog KwikPen (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 1 "I have now had a problem with 4 boxes of these Kwikpens completely go to waste! Each time I take the cap off the pen to use it, it is already dripping insulin! Not only that, but it injects too much insulin in my body, causing me to have MULTIPLE insulin reactions. I’m also concerned about getting an air bubble in my blood stream because when it leaks, it creates air bubbles in the pen. This is life affecting. What can I do? Any suggestions?"

Admelog (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 2 "This medication was prescribed to me with instructions that I should use it on a sliding scale, depending on what my blood sugar is reading and what I'll be eating. I've discovered that if I follow this guideline closely, it works great. For example: A BS reading of 124 just before eating an apple calls for me injecting 4 units of the medication, just enough to keep the natural sugar of the apple pushing me too high. Yet, that same BS reading of 124 just before eating a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats with whole milk...well, that requires me to inject 10 units to compensate for all that fake sugar. When that is kept in mind and closely monitored, this medication is a winner. As for side effects...I developed an occasional case of nasal and throat congestion due to taking it, but a very minor dose of any OTC decongestant takes care of that."

Humalog KwikPen (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 1 "Have problems with my HUMALOG pens over the last couple of years. I switch to a new pen and my BG skyrockets. Have to throw away about one third of my pens. Is there a government agency checking the quality of medication sold to U.S. consumers anymore?"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I have been a type 1 diabetic for 36 years. I have used insulin pens for several years with no issue 4 x’s daily. Last year my Big Name insurance company changed my coverage and I can no longer use Humalog pens but must use Lilly’s Generic Insulin Lispro Injection KwikPen. Since that time, I have had several issues with the KwikPen not working properly or not injecting the correct dosage if any at all. It may take up to 4-10 attempts to inject my insulin. The pen gets stuck and twists like it’s off track. My blood sugar goes through the roof and/or because of several attempts low blood sugars(due to not knowing how much was actually injected) Lilly and my insurance company in an effort to “save” themselves some money are endangering lives! Shame on Lilly and the “Shield.” I hope we can all live through your mess!"

Humalog KwikPen (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 2 "The Humalog KwikPen insulin works well but I have had the issue of my pens jamming, sticking, and just not working. I called the number on the paper that was in the box with the pens. I spoke to the nicest young man and he helped me fix my pen then gave me some advice on how to avoid these issues in the future. He even got me a replacement because I ended up throwing a broke pen away before I could finish using it (~100 units left)."

Admelog (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 1 "Like everyone else, was forced to switch from Humalog by my insurance to Admelog. But unlike most reviews I have read here, Admelog has worked good for me. If anything, it is MORE potent that humalog. Maybe the first batches were sub standard, who knows. But people shouldn't worry about switching to Admelog right now, it does what it's supposed to do perfectly."

Humalog (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 1 "I'm from Brazil and I'm type 1. I've been using Humalog for almost one year. It's going well, my blood sugar goes down quickly and I use it as basal too and works well. Sometimes it doesn't work well because you have to balance your meals and exercise more to avoid creating resistance to the medicine. In Brazil, it's a little expensive and the government doesn't cover it."

Humalog (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 1 "I am on a Medtronic insulin pump, and have had good results from this medication. Unfortunately, Medicare told me that Humalog was no longer covered; I was switched to Fiasp. Within two days, my average blood sugar went from 130 to 680. In the meantime, I had changed my diet three times and doubled my daily insulin dose, to no avail. I was switched back to Humalog, and within a day my blood sugars were back down to normal. Now, I am having trouble paying the $450.00 a month for the insulin... shame on Medicare."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I use the Humalog 75/25 and I have not had any problems with the pens or the medicines efficiency. Then I switched to the generic because it was cheaper and supposedly just as good. It isn't. You have to use 1 1/2 more product of the generic as you do the original dosage, to get the same effect. I will be switching back to the original when my generic runs out."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Was recently switched to generic version of Humalog, my insulin dosage has increased ridiculously. I have cut down significantly on carbs, rarely have any fruit, yet I have to take at least 2x the insulin with BG consistently around 200. Previous A1cs were 5.1, 5.3, 5.6, last one jumped to 6.2. The generic is half the cost, but if I double my usage, where is the saving for the insurance company? Big Pharma is awful. At least I am eating better, have lost 10 pounds, but I can likely expect a shorter life expectancy. Thanks Lilly."

Lyumjev (insulin lispro) for Diabetes, Type 2 "My doctor gave me a sample vial of Lyumjev because my Medicare prescription plan is dropping Humalog that I use in my Tandem TSlim pump. I also have a Dexcom G6 CGM which communicates with my Tandem pump and I use the Tandem Control IQ feature to keep my blood sugars within range and very rarely have a hypo event using Humalog. Lyumjev is not approved by the pump manufacturer, but apparently Cigna does not care. So, after using an entire vial of Lyumjev, I may have to get an exception to continue getting Humalog or its equivalent. Lyumjev caused fairly severe stinging at the infusion site, especially during boluses. It also caused my skin to react and sometimes have minor bleeding at the cannula which would bleed out to the infusion site bandage. I kept trying to find infusion locations which would not sting so much, but, in my case, it still stung fairly significantly. My endocrinologist warned me that this was a known side effect."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I use Lispro for several years now. I had to get special permission from Florida Blue Medicare in order to take it. I find that Lispro works just as well as Humalog, and if you look at the ingredients in the Humalog kwikpen, it states Insulin Lispro Injection on it. My Lispro is also made by Lilly, just like Humalog. Lispro works for me without any issues. I'm on a sliding scale in the AM: 16 units prior to lunch, 16 units prior to supper, and sliding scale at bedtime. I also take 23 units of Lantus insulin 15 minutes after supper. I would recommend Lispro as a more cost-effective insulin to take, even though it's now capped at $35. It's still a lower price point."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I have been using humalog and now insulin lispro for 15 years. I have no issue with the insulin but the pens leave much to be desired. They skip, jam and don't work well with BD pen tips. The quality of these pens is nothing like the pen I use for Levimir. I have never had a problem with a Levimir pen. Lilly should be ashamed of this product. If I could change, I would."
