Necon 1/35 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "This was the first one I was put on after going off b.c. after college when I was able to get married and needed contraceptive. I had known for years that I had PCOS (zero periods/year) and would eventually get my diagnosis 2 months after this b.c. It was horrible. I had major mood swings, I would scream at my husband (then fiance) then all of a sudden end up bawling. I had to go off it and still have yet to find a good b.c. that works."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I started Ortho Tri-Cyclin Lo when I turned 18; used it for about 3 years until my cycles started showing up whenever they wanted. My doctor switched me to Sprintec, which was a constant dose of hormone as opposed to the increasing dose like OTCL. Sprintec turned me into an absolutely CRAZY person; my emotions were out of control and my doc seemed to think there was no problem at all. I took myself off of the meds for about 6 months trying to rebalance my system and found a new doctor. My new doctor diagnosed me with PCOS and suggested Lo Loestrin Fe. She told me there was a good chance that my period would go away entirely and asked if I was ok with that. BEST DECISION I EVER MADE! Spotted ONCE since starting it in Nov 2014--no more cycle!"

Gildess Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I've been taking Gildess for about 11 months now. I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, so my periods are normally very far and few. I was prescribed Gildess to regulate my periods, but mainly to help with PMDD. Since taking Gildess, it has helped tremendously with my anger/depression. My mood swings are gone, but I've gained 40 pounds! One of the side effects of this med is weight gain and cravings for carbs and sweets. I like what Gildess has done for my mood, but I hate the weight gain. That may be a factor in me stopping this medication soon."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I've only been on Loestrin 24 FE for three weeks. Prior to starting these pills, I hadn't had my period since July 1, 2011. By the second week of taking these pills, I've had severe flooding, horrible cramps, diarrhea, and my skin is blotchy. My doctor told me that I would probably start my period or at least "spot" but I have extremely heavy flow right now. I realize that maybe this is due to the endometriosis that built up from my PCOS and uterine fibroid issue, but I had no idea it would feel like Niagara Falls. I am also waking up every night around 3AM and having nightmares. All started as soon as I took these pills."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have been experiencing, since starting this medication, vaginal dryness. I cannot even use soft toilet paper, I HAVE to use a moistened wipe if I use the restroom. It is so bad I had to go and see my doctor. He told me to give the pill 2 more months then come back to see him. I have also noticed that my moods are VERY crazy and this is affecting my relationship with my husband, work and family. I am trying to ride it out but am tempted to ask for another drug solely because of the mood swings. "

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "After trying 4 different birth controls, I was ready to give up when my doctor recommended this. I do not get migraines. I did gain 5 lbs and it does make me very bloated. The cramps were very painful but anything over those massive migraines I used to get with the previous pills."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have been on this pill 2 months cons I am sick to my stomach everyday, I throw up at least once a week and pee like every 10mins. I also get headaches towards the end of the day. So I started taking my second pack before I go to sleep to avoid these symptoms no such luck. Pro's barely has a period last month waiting to see this month. I will stick it out for another month, but if nothing changes I'm changing it so far I'm very disappointed I was so excited for this pill"

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "It helped lighten my period by a lot. I used to have it really heavy for 7-8 days, but now I have it for only 4 and it's light. It also helps my acne. I love it. It's also really cheap. $24 a month isn't bad for birth control."

"I started Lo Loestrin Fe to help lessen the amount of cysts that I get on my ovaries. I had used different birth control pills in the past and had issues with mood swings, depression, and little to no sex drive so I was hesitant to get back on one. I have been on LLF now for about 3 years. It has helped drastically lower the number of cysts I get each year, although I do still get them occasionally. I had very irregular cycles before starting LLF that were light but painful and sometimes came with fevers, vomiting, and severe cramps. Since being on LLF I have had no full periods and only spotted a few times. I have seen no emotional change or acne change since starting this pill, but it may be causing a slight issue with losing weight."

Necon 1/35 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "Just started week 2 of this bc. I can't really say if my issues are from this, I had the flu a week prior to starting and also during the first week. Im 25 years old- 2 kids and first time taking any kind of birth control. I self diagnosed myself as having PCOS- and my Gyn prescribed me Necon 1/35. SO far my symptoms which could be from being sick or the birth control-- Dizziness/ head gets foggy and vision slowed- starting 20 minutes after taking pill and lasting up to 6 hours afterwards. Nausea, loss of appetite, food aversions, mood swings, ( also have been having some stress/life issues, along with being sick) Breast tenderness, don't seem so bloated now, fatigue."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I'm on my first pack of Loestrin and so far I've had some serious cramps! Face is clear, mood swings are out of this world! The other day I was so irritated with everything and everyone! I have had some breakthrough bleeding but I have not gotten my period yet. I'm on the last week of pills! If these cramps don't go away and these mood swings don't stop I have to get off this medication!"

Microgestin Fe 1.5/30 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I was put on this higher dose hormone birth control pill in May 2014 when my pcos diagnosis was confirmed. January 15 2015 I was hospitalized for Acute Bilateral Emboli. It is now my belief, which should be confirmed in June, that the birth control caused the blood clots in my lungs. I have been on regular birth control 1/20 for over 10 years before this to treat menstrul pain and prevent new cysts from forming before I was diagnosed with pcos they just diagnosed me with ovarian cysts. Although I don't know if it was the higher dose that caused the clots I am no longer on combination birth control because of it. I will never be able to tale combination pills again."

"I had taken this pill once I found out I had PCOS. While less side effects than Tri estarylla, it was not effective for my condition. I first had a break through bleeding for 2.5 weeks with thick blood clumps and horrible cramps. It was awful! Then after the breakthrough bleeding I actually went from getting irregular periods to none at all. I made the switch however because my moods were out of control, especially anger. I did not experience weight gain or acne on this pill."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "In 2014 I was diagnosed with PCOS. I was 14 years old and had no idea what to expect. In 2017 I was switched from Tri-Previfem to Junel FE 1/20, the 21 day pack. I've been on it for 3 months now. In that time span I've been constantly woken up from nightmares and have anxiety attacks and heart palpations. My mood has literally been off the wall. I snap at everything. If someone even asks me a question I blow up. I'm also constantly nauseous. I honestly thought I was pregnant at first, but many doctors and home tests proved me wrong. I wouldn't suggest this because I've never had problems with anxiety before this. Definitely going to my gyno to switch soon!!"

"Pirmella 7/7/7: I am so relieved to be on this medication! It has helped my PCOS tremendously. I've lost weight, which I have not been able to do with diet & exercise before. I do experience breast tenderness & nightmares, but if that's all I have to deal with & I am losing weight, then I will take it."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 months ago. I tried Junel Fe before Loestrin Fe but kept throwing up everyday due to nausea/morning sickness. Then my doctor switched me to Loestrin Fe. Now I only get mild nausea during first line of the pack. My periods are normal now, they last 3 days (1.5 days of 2 placebo pills) and 1 day of first pill of the new pack. My acne gotten out of control though completely filled around chin area but I heard it takes 4 months for your body to get used to hormonal changes. So I'm hoping with time I will see the effect. I was on Balzina last year and stopped after 8 months when my periods became normal.... it cleared my face too so I'm hoping Loestrin will do the same."

Microgestin Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I've gained about 20 lbs in the past 3 months, a cup size & have tender breasts, but no other side effects. Was switched to this pill for my polycystic ovarian syndrome after using Lo Loestrin Fe for over year and had a lot of breakthrough bleeding. I used the Lo Loestrin in combination with Premarin until my doctor decided to switch me over."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "My doctor prescribed me Loestrin 24 Fe due to long periods and painful periods each month, it worked well with my period. Lasts 4 or 5 days it is really light but it gave me a bacterial infection, close to yeast infection and bad acne and even though I took the pills correctly I bleed on them all the time. So my doctor gave Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. I took my first pill today so hopefully it works way better than Loestrin."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have PCOS and Endometerosis and neither one of them caused a problem with my skin. People always complimented me and then my doctor suggested for me to be put on YAZ. Wow I loved Yaz because that birthconrtol pill cleared up my moods and my skin just looked even better and I just loved that medication. Since everyone was having problems with it, my doctor stopped my Yaz immediately and then prescribed me Lomedia. Since I have been on Lomedia, I have had my gall bladder removed, I have facial hair, I have acne like you wouldn't believe, horrible stomach pains and now IBS. Then I took a month break from the Lomedia and everything cleared up. I was back to normal. I would not recommend this product. I never had these problems before Lomedia"

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have been on this pill for 6 months since I was diagnosed with PCOS. My periods were still regular before going on this pill. My only real symptoms of PCOS were excessive hair growth and elevated Testosterone levels. Since I started taking this pill I have chronic spotting, bloating, headaches, and fatigue. I fatigue is so bad that it has started to interfere with my grades in school. I get a horrible pain in my left hip before I start spotting. I have seen no improvement with the abnormal hair. I also have not had a period since starting the pill which i started six months ago."

Microgestin Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "My gynecologist put me on this for PCOS. I took it for two years. My periods are few, random and unpredictable. I didn't have regular bleeding at all. I had one or two periods a year on it. The periods were much less uncomfortable, and my PMS symptoms were a lower severity. Didn't help with my high insulin which is my big problem. Didn't help with my ridiculously bad adult acne big problem. It went back to before. For a short period, I think it decreased my acne by 10%. The only pro I can think of is that it dealt with my higher risk for developing endometrial cancer due to lining buildup from unopposed estrogen. If I miss a dose here or there, I have awful mood swings. I'm going to a new gynecologist because I need better management of my PCOS."

Microgestin Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "Been on this for 3 months. I'm 20 years old and was put on this due to: Ovarian cysts, acne, incredibly painful/irregular & as future birth control method. It didn't seem to do anything other than make me hungry, achey, & VERY VERY tired. My period is still irregular & painful. My face hasn't cleared up. I definitely experience spotting a week before the brown pills. I BARELY bleed or not at all on the brown pills which makes me nervous for when I do start to have sex and would like reassurance that i'm not pregnant. I go back to the doctor this week, i'm definitely switching to a different birth control! Something to get rid of my acne, my painful periods & something that will regulate them!"

I have horrible acne, mood swings all the time, I have terrible cramps, headaches and I always feel nauseous. I will be going on a new pill as soon as possible."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "When I started birth control, I was initially put on Desogen. That birth control gave me horrible mood swings and I eventually had to switch when they began to interfere with my life. I started Loestrin 24 Fe after that, and I liked it a lot more at first than I do now. I have now been on this pill since about August of 09, and I am currently looking to find another method to try since I am experiencing terrible lack of sex drive and random cramps throughout the month. However, I still give this birth control a 6 because the lack of libido is the worst symptom I have experienced, and after the horror of mood swings I experienced before, that doesn't seem AS bad."
