Reviews for Ethinyl estradiol/norethindrone
Review by NaturalBelle (taken for 6 months to 1 year):
Gildess Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: Gildess is my first birth control. The only thing that really changed my body was that in the first couple of months my breast were tender & I had headaches almost everyday! My mood is still swinging like crazy. I'm trying too prevent myself from lashing out on my boyfriend since I know the birth control is the reason I have become extremely mean.
Generess Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: When I first was put on Generess Fe, I had no side effects until the second week. It was like everything hit me at once. I can't stop eating, my face never breaks out and as of now it's acne central, I've been throwing up and I can't even go to work without getting immediately annoyed.
Generess Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: I have been taking this pill for 5 months to even out my hormones. It took my body only one week to adjust to the pill, which I don't think is bad. My period lasts from 2 to 3 days, very very light, no cramps. I do get hungrier before the cycle, otherwise I try to watch what I eat. To all the ladies, everyone's body will react differently to the pill. The main point is that you have to find the pill which will not affect you in any way. Generess Fe is not a bad pill, it's just for some people it works, for some it doesn't. I honestly don't have any problems with the pill, I feel great. Before the pill, I was depressed, stressed. This helped me get rid of stress, anxiety and depression.
Generess Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: My Dr put me on Generess Fe after I had tried Loestrin 24 and Lo-Ovral. I was impressed that a lower dose pill worked for me. The first 5 or 6 months I experienced some spotting mid month, but it wasn't unbearable and eventually subsided. My periods became very regular and light. They still last a full week, but are light enough that it doesn't hinder me. I experience very little cramping and mood change. I feel hungry alot and my libido could be better. However, after having a miserable experience with Nuvaring, I am calling my doctor and going back on Generess Fe. By far, this has been my favorite birth control pill.
Lo Loestrin Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: The first month was great! It really helped with my PMS mood swings, which were awful!
HAd a short period with regular bad cramps but was elated that it helped my depressive mood swings, which is why I started taking it. Now I'm in my 2nd month, on my 2nd week and am bleeding and bloated! Feeling more bloated than usual too.
Have been bleeding for four days now. Am hoping it will stop and even out because the aiding of my former mood swings is wonderful!
Lo Loestrin Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: I loved this pill at first, it got rid if my terrible cramps. A few months after, however, I had two periods each month. Now I have a period every other week. The birth control pill is a hit-or-miss type of business.
Review by momma of 2 (taken for 6 months to 1 year):
Lo Loestrin Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: I love this pill, I never get my period and every month experience very little cramping. However, the company offer a rebate and the customer service never calls back nor do I get my rebate.
Microgestin Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: I've been on Microgestin for 2 months now and I'm loving it, it took me 2.5 years to find a hormonal birth control method that worked for me. While on a different pill, I was having problems with suicidal thoughts and depression along with massive mood swings and breast tenderness. I was ready to quit hormonal birth control all together, but decided to give this one a try first. I haven't been having any negative symptoms, I'm very very happy to have found this. I only wish I could have found Microgestin sooner.
Lo Loestrin Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone): This is the first birth control I have ever been on, and I absolutely love it. My reason for taking it isn't actually for birth control, but for severe cramps and irregular periods. Before I was on this pill, my cramps would be so bad that I could hardly walk sometimes! I missed so much school because of how intense my pain was. I've been on the pill now for almost 7 months, and it has helped tremendously. I have not had ANY cramps at all. My period was also very irregular before I started the pill, and since I've started taking this, I do not even have a period! The only complaint I have was the mild nausea and headache during the first month of taking it, which is normal when starting birth control, but it was still a nuisance.
Lo Loestrin Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: Lo Loestrin = Acne cysts! I have always had clear skin [with the occasional break out, but nothing serious] and since switching to this pill about 12 months ago, I've had a never ending cycle of painful and ugly red blemishes. My dermatologist assessed my skin and after two minutes with me determined that I had Lo Loestrin skin. She said it is absolutely the worst for skin because of its significantly lower estrogen levels. Anyway, I just wanted to share this knowledge. I'm switching back to Yasmin.
Review by SapphireSunshine (taken for 1 to 2 years):
Microgestin Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: I have been on Microgestin FE 1.5/30 for 15 months. My doctor prescribed it when I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. My cycle would not stop for more than two days, then it would start again. As soon as I started the Microgestin, my cycle regulated the first week. After taking it for about a year my periods are extremely light and very short. The side effects I have experienced are acne, oily skin, and terrible mood swings the week before my period begins. I get very angry and irritable for about two days the week prior to my period. In spite of these side effects this pill has been great for me. I have lost 40 lbs with diet and exercise that I was unable to lose before taking this pill. I highly recommend giving it a try.
Minastrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: I was on Loestrin 24 fe for 3 years with NO PROBLEMS. I loved it. My periods lasted less than 2 days, cleared my skin, and I didn't gain weight. Then I was forced to switch to Minastrin, which is supposedly the same pill, but just chewable. It's been a TERRIBLE experience. I've had a chronic yeast infection straight through the 3 months I've been on it and it won't respond to any prescription medication. I've also had severe cramps during my period and acne. There is no way this medication is the same and I want Loestrin back.
Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Menstrual Disorders: I've been on Loestrin 24 for around 5 months and I am overall very happy with it. I am 16 and sexually active. The first three months were bad in terms of side effects. Lots of nausea, acne, spotting and cramping. But from the get go I went from heavy, long periods to very short light periods. For the past two months I have had just spotting for around 3 days, not exactly in correspondence with my brown pills but close enough. I no longer get bloated on my period, I do still have acne around my time of the month but that can be attributed to my negligence of going to the dermatologist in half a year. It worries me that some people get no period at all because pregnancy scares are definitely not my favorite. But now I feel safe and satisfied.

Lo Loestrin Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: Before I tried this pill I tried so many others and the experiences were bad. This is the only pill that I feel like myself on! It probably is because this is the lowest dose pill available. Why put extra hormones in your body if you can prevent pregnancy and lighten periods with the minimal amount of hormones? I really like it! I've recommended it to several friends and they are liking it too!
Microgestin Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: After being on this for 18mo I am happy to try something new. Where to start? All seemed fine then it started to snowball. Mood swings (crying over commercials!), NO sex drive, break through bleeding that lasted longer than actual periods (3 days period, & 2 wks break through) & increased headaches.
Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: This pill had its pros and cons, but mostly cons as I just switched from it.
Pros- very very light period (basically nonexistant), no mood swings, no weight gain
Cons- more severe cramps than I have ever experienced in my life, terrible side effects of puberty (my face was out of control and I was really sweaty), heat flashes, craving sweets like crazy
Generess Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: I started taking Generess Fe 5 weeks ago. I bled for the entire first month. It just didn't stop. Then I developed a stronger sensitivity to dairy products than I ever had before. The past 3 days have been unbearable. I haven't been able to keep anything down, I started sweating and nearly fainted a few times. I've also thrown up 5 or more times. My mood swings have been really bad also. I have no idea if this does even help prevent pregnancy, as I needed a back up method for the first month. I'm stopping this and making an appointment to see my doctor. There's no way I can live with constant gas pains and nausea and throwing up.
Generess Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: Periods became lighter within the first month, which was great because mine were very painful before. The one problem was the first time I took it. I felt far more depressed than ever before. But this was only temporary; it took about one week to adjust psychologically. Be sure to take with a good sized meal! Other than that, very slight weight gain and no spotting. Always take the brown pills too; they contain the mineral iron which women need a lot of.
Lo Loestrin Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: I switched to this birth control from Yaz because my periods (although controlled) were still 7-8 days long and heavy. When I switched to this pill I gained about 8 lbs, was intensely moody, and noticed my hair and skin became extremely oily. I was on it for 4 months and it only got worse. I had breakthrough bleeding the entire time. The second month I was on it I bled for 2 weeks straight. It was absolutely miserable. I know birth control affects every person differently, but this was AWFUL for me.

Microgestin Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: Whenever you start birth control, you're suppose to give it a three month trial before you determine if it's garbage or not. The reason being is because your body is adjusting to the new birth control, and of course you're going to experience break out bleeding, common birth control side effects, and of course being overly emotional. On the other hand, despite the break out bleeding and the mood swings I get from time to time, I love Microgestin! It's a reliable birth control if used correctly, so if you're forgetful, forget the pill and find another form of birth control! Within the past nine months I've used it I had lighter periods, didn't break out as much, and I didn't feel any weight gain. I recommend this product to anyone!
Minastrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: Like with everyone else, was switched to this medication unknowingly. I receive my birth control in a 6 month supply and this last bulk included 2 Minastrin packs. I used Loestrin for a good 2 years and had absolutely NO side effects. I'm halfway through my second pack of Minastrin and I've been bleeding 2-3 days every other week (which isn't a huge deal, more annoying than anything), horrible lower back pain that will not cease, I've cried 4 times just in the past few days over nonsense, and have been in a generally depressed state. I made sure there were no other stressors that could've triggered this ridiculous emotional roller coaster and finally connected the dots and realized these symptoms presented after starting Minastrin.....
Lo Loestrin Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: I have been on this pill for about a year and a half now... At first, my periods were heavy and irregular but now I am down to a regular cycle of one really light period every month (lasting about 2-3 days max). Before I started the pill, I had problems with acne and now I have virtually none at all. No weight gain. The only negative side effects that I've experienced are some weird mood swings every now and then. But for me, this pill is everything I could have hoped for, just wish it were a little cheaper.
Generess Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: I've been taking Generess Fe for a few months now and I haven't had any side effects! It's been working pretty good because my periods are lighter than before and last about 3 days. The only thing I've noticed is that I have cramps now before my period which I didn't have before. After hearing all these scary comments about Generess I was scared to even give it a try, but I'm glad I did because it's been working! Also, If you don't have insurance this medicine is pretty expensive so I'd check into that if not.
Review by Lovemynewhubbs (taken for less than 1 month):
Generess Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: Seriously, is this pill a joke? Screw Generess FE. I'm about to enter my 4th week and I've never been more miserable in my life. Let me start by saying that no pill just magically makes you gain weight, it's the increase in appetite that makes you gain weight. I'm freaking starving ALL the time no matter how full I am. I'm EXTREMELY tired. I have done nothing all week except go to work, eat, and sleep. I'm a totally different person. My boobs hurt, and I had a huge fight with my new husband. Would rather have sex never again then feel like this any longer.
Review by Can we create a helpful BC ? :) (taken for 1 to 6 months):
Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) for Birth Control: I went on birth control for the first time in my life, I was experiencing bad acne and cramps almost 15 days before my period starts. My only fear was the weight gain , but I decided to give it a shot and try to control my PMS . I was on Junel Fe 1/20 for almost 5 months, did not get my period for the first three months and I only had spotting for 2 weeks every month, my acnes got to it's worse level and I experienced some huge acnes on my back too. After being on Junel for 5 months I noticed that I gained 10lb and it was a time when I decided to call my doctor to put me on something else. I am on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and so far it has been a good pill but with major headaches. I hate Junel Fe 1/20 since it gifted me 10lb in 5 months.
