Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have been on this pill for two years. The first couple months I had a lot of nausea and sickness. For the rest of the time, I would either have two periods a month, every other week, but they were fairly light, or go months at a time with no bleeding at all. I'm switching to a different pill now just because I need a generic form and there isn't one yet for Loestrin 24"

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I'm in the beginning of month two on Loestrin. I've always had crazy periods, so my body is still adjusting. I've had spotting the last week or so and my period just started before it was supposed to, but I think it's because I haven't been taking the pill at EXACTLY the same time everyday. I'll quit taking it for a few days to let my period run its course, then will start again and hopefully keep things under control. So far I have had no weight gain, no moodyness/anxiety, no crazy acne or anything. I have had minor cramps here and there but that's about it! I'll leave another review in a month or two!"

"I was put on a birthcontrol for abnormal periods. I switched two months ago to Microgestin 1/20 since it’s cheaper than what I was previously on. In terms of contraception, its been perfect. It’s also regulated my periods, which my other pill was not able to do. HOWEVER, after reading a lot of reviews I’m starting to put some pieces together. I had a horrible yeast infection that took forever to get rid of; a problem I’ve never had before. I also have realized my acne got worse lately. I started breaking out across my forehead which is really abnormal for me. In terms of mood, it’s been really bad. Crying, lack of focus, depression, and anxiety. I’m making an appointment with my OB to go over some options."

"I am so surprised at the bad reviews this medication is getting. I first started taking birth control not because I was sexually active, but because I had terrible periods. Hemorrhaging to the point where no tampon could help me (something that runs in my female family). I started with Loestrin and my life changed, in a good way. My periods lightened up and I got to the point where I only had to wear thin pantiliners to get through my cycle. For some reason my doctor later switched me to Minastrin, and everything is still working as it was. Since starting birth control, I have gotten married, and it's now helping me with what it was made to do as well as beautifully managing my periods. Love it!"

"I started taking this because my periods were very heavy and I had to miss up to 3 days of school a month because of terrible cramps. I only took the pill for 8 days - 8 days full of intense nausea, constipation, depression, AND cramps. I've been off it for a week and I a still recovering from the negative side effects."

"I am 18 years old and had severe bleeding ever since I first got my period. I started off with a normal flow that lasted one week which eventually got heavy to the point wear I wore purple maxi overnight pads during the day. My periods would last 7 months and eventually I became anemic. After visiting many doctors which only suggested birth control (the option we tried to avoid) The gynecologist I visited perscribed Lo Loestrin Fe to stop my periods and some iron pills and vitamin D for my anemia. I didn't suffer with cramps, bloating, nausea and such during my long periods. After starting Lo Loestrin Fe It stopped completely and I have had no bad experiences with acne or weight gain, just bleeding on my 3rd week. Its been a great two months!"

Gildess Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I was prescribed Loestrin to get my irregular periods regular, and Gildess is the generic that my pharmacy carried. It did a really terrible job of regulating my periods, because they are crazier now than they were before. The first month, I spotted almost the entire month, but my period was on time, short, and light. When I didn't spot at all the second month, I figured it would be smooth sailing. Nope. My period was really early that month and longer than usual. I either had an extremely early period the third month, or heavy spotting accompanied by bad cramps and no period at all. It didn't effect my sex drive, but it did cause me to have vaginal dryness for about the first six weeks of taking it, although thankfully that side effect did go away after a while. I found myself to be incredibly short tempered after starting this medication, but I think that side effect subsided (ask my friends, I guess haha). I also became alarmed at the amount of hair that was falling out, but a call to the doctor assured me that the hair is falling out faster, but also growing back in faster. I haven't noticed a change in the fullness of my hair, so I'll take her word on it. I have noticed myself having more pimples in the last month, but this could be related to stress, because I hadn't noticed it the first two months. Bottom line, I'm giving it a six, because while it served me well as a birth control and I didn't get pregnant while taking it and most of its side effects subsided for me, it has served me poorly for the reason it was prescribed, to regulate my period."

Gildess Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I wanna start by saying thank you ladies for sharing your reviews , I have a rare blood disorder that cause me to bleed easy especially during my cycle , I've tryed many many different ones for years but Gildess seems to do the job my first month I spotted for about a week my next month was light and no cramps, just cravings now this is the third month it seems to have changed the day I get my period I could tell because when it come the second month . The only complaints I have is I've been having severe cramping the closer to my period & weird sharp pains in my temples and a bit of soreness but nothing that's not manageable good luck ladies , oh and a bit of acne that's easy to manage works really good though"

"So I’ve been on it for only a month and I’m going to be honest it’s been a game changer. I’m a person that has been dealing with abnormal uterine bleeding for a while. I also have cervical ectropian. What finally made me decide to try this pill was my doctor suggesting this to make my periods normal. I would spot up to five days before I'd even get my period and bleed occasionally after sex. Since taking this pill, I did not spot prior to getting my period and it was extremely light (no complaints here about that) I did experience the skin breakout but that wasn’t a biggie for me. I also have not had bleeding after sex. I know everyone is different but I would recommend this pill."

"I was prescribed Junel 1.5/30 last year. When I started taking it, I bled 18 days so I stopped. I didn't really need to be on birth control but it is easier and regulates periods. This year somehow I was prescribed Blisovi 1/20 which is basically the same just a lower dose and I've been bleeding for 19 days now. I had Seasonique called for me. I need estradiol so birth control pills are the best option but noretherindone does not work for me."

"I got on this BC to help manage my excruciating menstrual cramps and it did take away that pain. You really don't get much of a period on this pill. I get maybe 3 days of what seems like just light spotting. I don't really know how healthy it is to not get an actual period though. I've been on the pill for 3 months now. The main issues I have with it are weight gain, acne, & vaginal dryness. I'm 25 y/o & I've always been a skinny girl, and before I started this pill I weighed 123 pounds. I've now gained 6 pounds in 3 months, bringing me to 129. I've never seen the scale at 129 before & I never gain weight that fast. I workout 4-5 days a week & eat pretty healthy. Also having more acne than normal. I'll be trying out a new pill."

"I was given a sample by by gynecologist in June, and I stuck with that until it freaked me out of giving me a 2 week heavy period. I stopped and the bleeding stopped. Then I talked to my doctor and she told me to stick with it so I got back on it again. I stuck with it and I still kept having the same symptoms but I listened to my doctor. I got a new doctor (my old one isn't with the clinic I go to anymore) and she prescribed me a higher dosage. I started taking that and got my period a few days into the pack. It was great at first, I was able to wear regular flow tampons without leaking. That was until the fifth or sixth day in when it got really heavy. I have now been on my period for 4 weeks. I talked to my doctor. I don't recommend this"

"I had some mild nausea here and there but nothing serious. This is not my first time being on the pill so I knew it was the pill causing it. I always felt though like this pill was a dam holding back the rushing waters of my cycle. Last week was time for my cycle and the first day no problem (last Tuesday) from Wed on I couldn't leave my house. The bleeding was so heavy and the clots were so huge and constant I thought something was seriously wrong. I found myself to be very angry and short tempered at every single thing and person (I am generally a very bubbly person). I called my doctor on Friday and said this is not the pill for me and to give me something else b/c I can not do another month of this again. Never have I been in a situation where my bleeding was so heavy I couldn't go out for fear of messing all over myself. This was with the largest tampon I could buy and the heaviest pad I could get and still it was so much I was going through both about every hour."

Gildess Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I had been on a different form of bc for several years, but apparently it was not as effective as I got older. My GYN prescribed Gildess to me and suggested I try it for a few months to see if the condition improved. I was on Gildess for a total of 5 months. I kept in mind that you must allow time (3 mos) for your body to adjust so although I experienced side effects from the start, I gave it a shot. I experienced uncontrollable mood swings and felt depressed and tired ALL THE TIME! The worst side effects though were the extreme headaches I experienced while taking this medication. I know everyone is different, but as for me... I would NEVER recommend this pill to anyone."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "Junel fe worked and did its job when it came to birth control, and it did help my acne. But when it came to my irregular periods (the main reason why I was put on it) it didn't regulate me and I'd go months with having it and months without having it, then I was placed on a different birth control for my regulations. Pretty good overall."

"From about 4th grade onward, I experienced semiannual ovarian cysts that caused me severe pain and made me stay out of school for several days. Even when they did figure out what it was, the doctors mainly had me stay on Ibuprofen to stave off the pain. Finally, when they realized that it wasn't working that well and that the cysts kept coming back, my OBGYN suggested that I start taking this medicine to regulate the hormones that were likely causing my cysts. Ever since I started taking this medicine several years ago, I haven't had a single cyst and have only had minor side effects. I still PMS on my "period," and I still get cramps on occasion, but for the most part everything is fine. I do think it causes bloating at times."

"I've been on this pill for several weeks now after trying to find the right pill for two years. It's the first pill I feel normal on. I've gained 3 pounds but the scale is starting to go back down now so maybe it was just water retention, although I have not felt bloated at all, which is great! I'm not moody and feel more even-keel. I haven't had period issues or unpredictability. I just feel completely normal and as for now I'm very happy with this pill."

Gildess Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I took Gildess Fe 1/20 for less than a month before I had to call my doctor and get a different form of BC. The first time I took it I had nausea in the morning, but I figured it was because I hadn't eaten much when I took the pill. I ended up dealing with vomiting, nausea, and dry-heaving while on this medicine. It made me really sick, and I couldn't take it anymore & switched to a different form of BC. I would NOT recommend this medicine (based on my personal experience). I did notice that this BC seemed to reduce my cravings for some foods, and I didn't necessarily notice any weight gain - if anything I think I lost a few pounds because of the vomiting and not being able to eat without feeling horrible."

Microgestin Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "Been on this pill for about 2 years. First birth control pill I've ever been on, so I have nothing to compare it to. For about the first year, this pill was great. Never gained weight, never had acne. My hormones never seemed to go crazy. However, my periods have seemed to get worse with the pill. On average before the pill, my period came for 5 days. I didn't have major cramping or extremely heavy bleeding. On the pill, I seem to have the opposite. My cramps are so bad that sometimes I get in the fetal position on the bed and hold a heating pad to my stomach. I've had periods skip before, but now for the past 3 or 4 months, I've had spotting between periods. I get a period basically every 2 weeks now, and they last for 6-7 days."

"Used to use Depo- provera for years. Then went through 3 yrs no period. It then came back with a VENGENCE. Had abnormally high amount of bleeding for 7-9 days with such severe cramping that it would often result in a missed day or 2 of work each month for months on end before talking to my Dr. Shortly thereafter, I eventually got an endometrial biopsy. I was told the endometrial tissue was "hormonally confused"- was then put on Lo Loestrin FE. I noticed a huge amount of positive difference within first month & still presently. Light bleeding & minimal cramping for 3 days- it's like night & day. I would highly recommend."

"First off, this pill made my skin break out like never before . I feel super bad about myself and literally want to not leave my house. I started this for my irregular period and this medicine had not helped and I feel like I am being a huge cow to people. I would honestly just deal with bleeding every other week then to deal with this emotional rollercoaster on the down ward spiral."

"I've had a positive experience with these pills. I am taking them to eliminate painful periods and to balance my hormones. I take the continuous pills, so I never have my period. The first month was more difficult. I had tender and swollen breasts and moodiness. During the second month, these side effects subsided, but I had a lot of spotting. Finally, in the third month, the spotting has stopped. Bonus, I have had an increase in breast size of 1/2 to one cup size."
