"The switch to this generic version has been a nightmare. I’m moody, lay in bed with the worst cramps, break out worse now than when I was a teenager (I’m 43). It’s terrible that insurance can dictate this because it’s been absolutely miserable in addition to this COVID quarantine. I got changed to generic in March and that’s when all the issues began. I’ve been on the Nuvaring over 10 years and I can honestly say this has been a terrible transition and I’m so disappointed that insurance companies can dictate a medication without notice."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "Absolutely LOVE IT! With every other birth control I've used, my periods were unpredictable, but they have been almost perfect since I started the NuvaRing. I have gained a few pounds, but that's no big deal, because it beats thinking I am pregnant every month or that I'm going to die from losing so much blood."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "I love Nuvaring! I was put on Microgestin FE 1/20 but stopped after the first month due to awful cramping in my arms/legs (which I still get during PMS) a year later I started NuvaRing and so far it has been no hassle at all. My breasts have grown at least half a cup size and while my acne isn't gone it's lightened considerably. My periods are light, 4 days long and I have little to no cramping when before I would be unable to move for hours due to menstrual cramps/ovulation and my flow was heavy for at least 5 days. I hope this method keeps working for me, and I recommend it to anyone looking for an easy method of birth control"

EluRyng (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) ""Lucky" I am not the only one with this issue. I got switched to the generic brand (because of my insurance) a couple of months ago without any warning. Nuvaring worked so well for me, so I figured this would be the same.... It's not. I make sure to follow the directions, but I have not had a period, I'm having constipation, small headaches, as well as losing my 'drive.' My biggest concern is the missed periods. I, strangely enough, enjoy my period. It makes me feel like everything is doing as it should and no pregnancy scares. This switch is not a good one and I really wish I could return to Nuva."

EluRyng (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "DO NOT USE ELURYNG. My pharmacy gave me Eluryng instead of Nuvaring several months ago and I figured I'd try it, my acne was HORRIFIC for the first couple of weeks. And then, I noticed I had some mood swings. The worst part was intense abdominal pain, especially surrounding sex. I thought for sure I had cancer for a minute there. I thought it couldn't be related to the Eluryng since it seemed like it wouldn't do any damage or anything. I took it out a week ago and I haven't had any pain or mood swings since."

EluRyng (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "My insurance provider now covers this versus the NuVaRing that I have used for 11 years. NEVER a problem with the original, but this generic is worse than a menstrual cycle. I have had cramping, bloating, painful breasts, discharge, headaches, migraine, body aches and nausea since I started this. So disappointing, it has caused issues I didn’t even have with a cycle. I am 46 and now trying to figure how I can budget $75 a month for the brand. This is awful."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "I'm gonna keep it short and sweet; I've been on about a week, taking it to help with PMS. No initial symptoms other than slight increase in random emotional upheaval. After about 3 days, exhaustion kicked in along with unnecessary bursts of anger, frustration or sadness. 4-6 days, mass fatigue, appalling headaches (I promise you, I'm not exaggerating!) crazy outbreaks of spots, nausea and lightheadedness. I'm going to stick it through for at least another week and will update. I would obviously prefer to follow through see if it settles down but I have rather a lot to do in the next few months and would rather not be impeded by my hormones. Good luck! It's worth a try- you can always take it out if it disagrees with you. -Alex Sterling"

EluRyng (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "I was on the Nuvaring for 4 years and I only experienced swollen breasts. It went away after 3 months. I had no problems. In March 2020, I was switched to the generic because of my insurance. Within 2 weeks, I was needing antidepressants because I didn’t feel right. I was having yeast infections like crazy and the fluconazole was not working (this is noted as a side effect). By April, I was having outburst of anger, feeling alone all the time, anxious, my blood pressure was out of control because of the anxiety, I was arguing with everyone, libido was gone, and I was just flat out upset about everything. Now it is May, I feel so depressed and question life everyday. I’m not motivated to do anything. I’m not happy for anything. I will cry about everything. I feel so alone. Today, we figured out it was the generic causing this. I have all the side effects listed on their website. Affect liability, is a serious side effect of this ring. My mental health and quite frankly, life is on the line."

EluRyng (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "I was on Nuvaring for 8+ years and never had a problem then was forced to switch to the generic because of my insurance. Within the first couple of days of having it in, I started having intense back pain and was so nauseous I could barely go for a walk outside. I finally took it out and got better but now I'm off birth control and having problems with my moods and cramping. Really sucks that the FDA approved this generic that clearly is dangerous and now I can't afford something that was working great for me."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "My doctor put me on NuvaRing just shy of 3 months ago as a temporary alternative to the Assure procedure due to me needing to take birth control 3 months before the process. Previously I had not taken any hormones in over 10 yrs. The first month was fine. NO problems and I had a lighter cycle than usual. The 2nd month I started having crazy mood swings, and bloating. At this stage I just saw my OB/Gyn today because I have gained so much weight and bloat. I'm unable to wear my regular clothes. I work out 4x a wk eat healthy (almost vegeterian) and my only caffeine is a daily cup of coffee. My doctor said I have gained 10 lbs and need to remove NuvaRing."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "**DO NOT TAKE** This medication should absolutely be taken off the market. It triggered a manic episode for me along with a loss of sense of identity, personality problems, delusional thinking, and extreme anger outbursts (which, anger, is a trait of my personality I do NOT consider to have.) It made me feel extremely uncomfortable with my gender, as though I was a "child" and my body did not feel "my own." Let it be known a contraceptive can greatly affect your health, physical health, social life, and overall well being. This made not only my hormonal imbalance issues significantly worse, but my entire life, in general - was greatly affected. Anyways, I apologize if this is too much information, yet I feel it needs to be known the seriousness of this medication and the side effects that it has... Make sure you do your research before going on any kind of medication, even a contraceptive that the government will tell you is "safe.""

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "I turned to NuvaRing because I didn't want to take a pill everyday anymore and I didn't have a great reaction to the implant. It has been a pleasant experience and without a doubt more convenient for me. I know exactly when my period will start and they have become shorter and lighter. I have noticed that I get slight headaches right before I start a period though. The first couple of months, I had extra discharge and irritation but that quickly went away. The very few negative side effects disappeared fairly quickly. Overall, it is a great birth control method and I'm thankful to have found something that works for me."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "I always wanted Nuvaring and now my insurance covers it. It's amazing. I'm not weirded out by my own body so I have no problem inserting and taking it out. I don't have to remember to insert it at the same time every day, so automatically I'm a perfect user! I had no side effects, which would make sense since its a lower dose at a constant rate. My sex drive has actually increased, not likely from the ring itself, but from the peace of mind knowing I didn't forget a dose. Totally recommend to anyone who can afford it, or who have bad memory and rather pay for the ring than for an accidental baby."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "Couple months ago, I was on the nuvaring. Biggest mistake of my life. It has changed what I loved, knew and liked. I had the nuva ring in for 2 weeks, only 2 weeks. I had a major stroke on Jan.31 2015 caused by this product. It killed 25% of my brain (back left portion). Had to relearn everything; to using a fork, writing, telling the time, etc. There's no side effects or warning this was going to happen, I just fell over and was in a coma for 3days. Now, I'm 18 fresh out of high school, I had a job, was going to school and just got my licence. But can't do that anymore. In other words, I strongly do not prompt this product. It should be taken off the market. Its deadly. I hope you are all safe, strong, women...and stay that way. Be safe<3"

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "For reference, I was previously taking Tri-Sprintec which stopped agreeing with my body - I started to experience breakthrough bleeding during weeks 2 and 3. I was then switched to Sprintec, which also had the same side effects along with constant hunger. I thought I’d give Nuvaring a try as I liked the idea of not having to remember to take a pill everyday. I do not feel it at all at any point, I’ve had no issues with it falling out, no hunger or other side effects and my period is the lightest it’s ever been and down to about 3 days. Very happy. I know most people only leave reviews when they’re unhappy with something. I wanted to be sure the positive is also shared as everyone is different."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "I've had the NuvaRing in now for over a year, maybe almost 3 years now. Pros: not remembering to take a pill every day, minimal acne(I've never had serious acne although), and light periods Cons: will poke out and this is painful!, while having sex with it in is sometimes painful. I'm bloated all the time! I eat a health diet exercise at least 3 times a week, and I was not bloated like this until the Nuvaring. Overall I would not recommend this, because I feel the cons weigh out the pros."

EluRyng (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "I have been on Nuvaring since 2007 and have never had any issues. I was given Eluryng in September of 2020. It has been a horrible experience! I have bled 14 days straight. I also experienced fatigue, headaches, and nausea. I’ve also experienced mental changes. I’ve been unhappy and depressed. I am usually the happiest person in the world. My NP suggested I stay on it for 3 weeks for my body to adjust. I told her that I would never use it again!! Worst birth control ever!!!!!!!!"

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "When I began using birth control, I had severe reactions to every pill that the doctor gave me. Of the side effects which are listed on the pamphlet,I had all of them except the most severe ones. I had three periods in 2 months and I was shaking and in a great deal of pain. I am small and to me it felt like a massive overdose. The Nuvaring has been a lifesaver. The ring slowly releases the hormones so I don't feel overwhelmed and saved me from a lot of future worry and stress."

EluRyng (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "I had great experiences with the Nuvaring and then all of a sudden my insurance company stopped giving it and gave me the EluRyng instead. Since I have been on this, I thought I was going crazy that I have spotted even before the three weeks are up causing major issues with my interactions with my husband, headaches, breast sensitivity and swelling, leg cramps, abdominal cramps, fatigue, it's been crazy and I thought it was just me. I wish my insurance would take Nuvaring again."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "The worst experience I ever had with birth control. Nova Ring is not for everyone trust me, I experienced very awful. Side effects it’s definitely something I would never like to experience ever again is very scary - it can change a persons personality. Doctors needs to be honest when prescribing this birth-control. I just pray these hormones leave my body soon because I need to feel like myself again"

I have hand an intense back pain, unable to sit up on my own, pain in other parts of my body and I had spotting for one month... I'm now on my fourth ring removal and no period... Omg I'm freaking out... Why make this generic version? Nuvaring was perfect for me back to square one.... I can't take pills, patch, shot, or implant. It literally took me years to get here."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "My partner and I finally decided to try some alternate methods of birth control. Nuvaring was my first choice because I'm too forgetful to try pills and I must say I've had a mixed experience. I love the fact that I can insert it and forget about it. I don't feel it during sex and it doesn't slip out. It got rid of my reoccurring yeast infections, I even grew a cup size. However, I can't help but notice that I've gained weight especially around my waistline which almost never happens, and my sex drive has decreased. I exercise regularly so I know it had to be the hormones. I experience extreme mood swings, I'm a lot more angry, I find myself depressed, have random urges to cry and my periods are just as painful as before. I just may switch soon."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "I initially googled NuvaRing side effects because I was concerned about its impact on childbearing and then came across this site. I’ve been on the ring, I realized just now, for over 10 years. I’ve never had any problems with it at all beside it falling out during sex a few times. However, for the last year I have been having some weird things happen to my body. Random passing out, very intense migraines, nausea, and random leg dumbness. Up until reading others’ stories, I assumed it was just getting older and my body changing into its mid-30s. Now I wonder if it’s due to the NuvaRing. I’m going to try going off it and see what happens. Thank you for sharing your stories."

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel) "If you take this medicine, you might as well write your will right after. I'm sure most people will read and ignore the horrible stories like I did because I didn't think it could happen to me. I have always been on birth control since I was 17 years old and now I'm 37. I've never had any issues with them until I took the NuvaRing. My period was extremely heavy, changing pads several times an hour. Then things became worse when I started to have shortness of breath for no reason at all. It turns out I had a pulmonary embolism in both lungs. My lungs were filled with blood and I was near death. I was in the hospital for over a week trying to survive. A hematologist look into why my blood was clotting and it was determined as a direct link to the Nuvaring. Now I can no longer use BC and I have to be on blood thinners for LIFE. Nuvaring has ruined my life!"
