For Cough "It definitely helps my cough. But it makes me so dizzy, I feel like my surroundings are going by at 100mph when I walk. I would NOT drive after taking it. I also feel a little "out of it", but that could just be having a sinus infection. I didn't have a problem with diarrhea like some people have mentioned."

For Cough "I took this late at night expecting it to work and I should have read the reviews first it didn't stop my cough at all and I think made it worse I ended up just sucking on a cough drop which worked better than this. It is now 5:30am and my stomach feels twisted like I'm going to vomit but I don't have anything to vomit because I haven't eaten anything and it has to be the cough syrup because I have had the cough drops before. I'm never going to use this medicine again."

For Cough "Do not take this!!! I started taking this during the tail end of my flu because my symptoms were mainly just coughing with phlegm. It gave me nausea which I thought attributed to the flu but after taking it a couple more times I noticed I was extremely nervous with anxiety. I stopped taking it for 2 days then took it again to see if it really was Delsym causing me severe anxiety. I became super anxious right after 1 hour taking it and it took about a day and a half to wear off and I only took the regular delsym and not the 12 hour one. Please be aware!!! It did suppress my cough and thinned my mucus but I'd rather deal with the coughing and mucus than the severe nervousness I dealt with."

For Cough "I have a hard time believing that there are so many people that are claiming diarrhea. I had no such experience. It also calmes my cough. I have IBS, which affects the bowels very easily. I have also known other people that have used Delsym and nobody has had this happen to them. It tastes better and really works. I have to say I suspect 1 or 2 people that had a bad experience have written multiple times too warn others. I hope people are going to more than one site to get reviews."

For Cough "Took 5 hours ago. Still coughing. Now I am pooping as well. Came to read reviews because I don't think I could have eaten anything else to cause diarrhea. I'm hoping I don't have 8 hours of stomach issues but it's not looking good. Maybe it doesn't happen to everyone but user beware!"

For Cough "Learned the hard way that this stuff causes explosive diarrhea. I wouldn't take this if you have any plans for the rest of the day. Honestly not sure if it really even helped with my cough or if I was just getting better with time. Wish I looked into it more earlier on instead of waiting. It feels like they have added the active ingredient for miralax in a drug designed for already sick people?"

For Cough "This cough syrup should be advertised as a colon cleanse. Fast acting! Holy moly. Within 10 minutes the diarrhea hit me like a freight train. I didn't know I had all that in me. The diarrhea was a great distraction from my sore throat. I didn't think the diarrhea was from the Delsum at first. I put two and two together when every 12 hours I took a dose it was followed by the violent emptying of my being. I did feel immediately better after the trips to the bathroom."

For Cough "I took this because my family flew in town and I couldn’t stop coughing. I got a terrible headache and got very dizzy and nauseous. After the nauseousness passed, I was straight tripping. I can’t believe this stuff is legal. Don’t take it unless you gave absolutely no other choice whatsoever."

For Cough "This stuff is useless, in fact I am coughing more and worse after taking it. Thank goodness I only bought a small bottle, since it is kind of expensive for something that does not work at all. Will never take this garbage again."

For Cough "This is the most useless medicine I've ever taken! I have the flu so I have all the symptoms... fever, chills, aches, and congestion. I took delsym to ease the coughing and instead of doing anything, all it did was give me diarrhea and I was still coughing to the point of gagging. Thanks for adding to my problems delsym!"

For Cough "I have to admit that this is one of the most effective cough suppressants I've ever taken. Unfortunately, I seem to experience side effects from it, thankfully not rampant diarrhea like many people seems to be experiencing, but I still can't take it anymore. Delsym has a commonly reported side effect of dizziness, but what I experience feels more like dizziness meets an acid trip. It's extremely unsettling and didn't happen the first time I took it; more like the 10th. But it happens every time I take it now. Bummer"

For Cough "Don't take it! First, it doesn't work. Second, I had stomach pain starting about 15 minutes after I took it. Sick stomach for hours. Then about 5 hours in I started throwing up violently. Delysim is the only thing I had in my stomach."

For Cough "I had a long term chronic cough a few years back & was buying everything on the shelf, nothing worked. My hubby asked the Pharmacist what he would recommend & he said Delsym the orange stuff, thought it was expensive but bought it. I immediately stopped coughing. Well here I am coughing again for a long time & finally broke down & bought some, no more cough with one dose & may take a dose today. Thanks for this great product."

For Cough "I bought this for a dry nagging cough. It worked great for the cough. I took the 12 hour version. I did however stay up for several hours with a rapid heart beat and nausea. It's been 16 hours and I still feel shaky and a bit loopy from the medication."

For Cough "Boy, do I wish I had read the reviews on this medicine BEFORE I took it! I have been sick for a week with a nasty virus and finally broke down late last night and took a dose of Delsym. I admit it stopped my cough in its tracks but I woke up six hours later with such bad diarrhea it was like my keister had sprouted a fountain. My husband took it and within a short time developed terrible chills. I think, from this point forward, I will just deal with the cough."

For Cough "I took Delsym for a severe cough. It stopped the cough and made me drowsy. I took a nap and when I woke up I could not move! My body was paralyzed. My cognition was impaired. After a undetermined period of time I was able to move and call for help. Very lucky to have been taken to a local VA Hospital where my blood tests indicated my immune system was compromised and my platelet count was 50,000 which they told me if I was in a serious accident I would bleed out. I was told that Delsym was a bad OTC Cough Syrup and would produce serious interactions with other Prescribed Medications. This near death experience can be documented."

For Cough "I honestly wasn't sure if it was the medication that did this to me, until I just almost took it again and decided to read reviews. A couple hours after I took it, I woke up three different times due to extreme stomach pain. The third time I decided to try to go to the bathroom. My stomach hurt so bad that I felt like the muscles in my stomach were just stuck tight. I felt like I couldn't even go to bathroom because it hurt so bad. After having extreme pain and diarrhea, I started getting chills, lightheaded and swearing profusely. I seriously thought I was going to die and started dialing 911, before laying on my bathroom floor for a couple minutes and it stopped. I wasn't even sure if it was the medication before reading all these."

For Cough "My 8 yr old was having a dry hacking cough after the flu. Used robitussin, it helped a little. Bough deslyn children's and gave her 5ml. She was complaining of a headache and stomach ache within an hr! She couldn't eat dinner, says she feels like throwing up, I'm rubbing her belly now and reading reviews now. Don't use this medication!"

For Cough "Been using this for about 7-8 years now. Unlike the sugar laced alcohol that is in most cough syrup, this stuff is the best. Takes about 45 min before it starts working, but after that, no more cough. In regards to diarrhea, no one in my family has had the experience described by some (or the same person posting over and over)"

For Cough "A lot of negative reviews here. I find Delsym to be very effective treating my cough. No symptoms of diarrhea at all. Of course I don't take it on an empty stomach. Anyway, pretty good stuff in my opinion."

For Cough "Took recommended dose at night. Woke up completely disoriented and dizzy - and had extreme waves of anxiety and feeling like I was going to pass out all day. Finally seemed to wear off around 24 hours later but was THE WORST experience. This was actually my second time - I tried it again just to make sure that it was the medicine causing it and not some strange panic attack. It's definitely the medicine."

For Cough "After having a nasty cold/cough for 5 days I had to do something, I was getting tired of sleeping in a recliner so I decided to give Delsym a try. Now it did help with the dry cough, I was still woken up to the gasping painful coughs but it was better than being awake almost all night long. I do have ibs-d and Delsym made me be in the bathroom most of the morning and it gave me the hang over headache. So Yes it did stop most of my coughing but who wants to spend the next day in the bathroom bent over in pain from cough syrup."

For Cough "Took Delsym for the 1 time on 02/19. I felt high, family said I was child like. No memory. Wasn't sure what caused it. The 2 time took it 09/19. After taking it my family said I was acting really weird. No memory of it but acted drunk and my daughter took video to show me. I was crying because my vision was blurred & also not being able to get orange juice out of cup.I was saying I want my mom & making things out of toilet paper. They said it was pitiful. Talking like a kid, my balance off, kept feeling like liquid was coming out my ear. Horrible head & muscle aches.I didn't get diarrhea like others but got dehydrated. Had sleep where you wake up thinking it had been hours but also had vivid dreams. Slept 12 hours. Didn't take cough away. My head felt like someone squeezing it & trying to pop my eyes out. Felt like I had been drinking last night and I don't drink at all. I know it was the delsym and looking up the side effects, I fall under overdose category. I didn't take the full dose."

"My son had chronic ear Infections when he was little and continues to have them every time he gets a cold. He is now 30 years old and continues to use Delsym 12 Hour Cough Syrup to avoid an ear Infection. He takes a dose at night and a dose in the morning at onset of a cold. As the cold begins to subside he stops the dose in the morning and just takes it at night until the cold is completely gone. I've told a lot of people about it and only one person has told me that it didn't work. I have taken Delsym myself and neither of us have experienced feeling drugged or have had the explosive diarrhea that others on these reviews have spoken of. Everyone is different as to what they can tolerate. It thins the mucous so it can drain properly and not cause the infection. I'm no doctor but just figured it out on my own years ago when I was told that it thins the mucous. I had him try it and he has been avoiding ear infections every since. Beats antibiotics and surgeries."

For Cough "I took Delsym 12 hr for a cough and it worked pretty good for me. I thought I did not have any side effects from it. A few days later I found that my Fibromyalgia pain had nearly disappeared, so what I worked out was great dextromethorphan for fibromyalgia pain. I was able to go to bed and get out of bed without any pain. I had almost forgot what it was like to be pain free. After much research on the active ingredient in Delsym, it was confirmed that dextromethorphan does block pain receptors in the brain. I continued to take the recommended dosage at 10AM and at 10PM. After about a month I it seemed I was more tired than usual. I cut the dosage back to just once at 10PM and was hopeful that would help with me being tired. Yes, it was better but still too tired every day. I have stopped Delsym completely. My pain is back in full fibromyalgia force but being tired has gotten much better. So, do I want to be tired all the time or do I want to deal with pain all the time. I haven't decided that yet."
