Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "I bought this for a dry nagging cough. It worked great for the cough. I took the 12 hour version. I did however stay up for several hours with a rapid heart beat and nausea. It's been 16 hours and I still feel shaky and a bit loopy from the medication."

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "Boy, do I wish I had read the reviews on this medicine BEFORE I took it! I have been sick for a week with a nasty virus and finally broke down late last night and took a dose of Delsym. I admit it stopped my cough in its tracks but I woke up six hours later with such bad diarrhea it was like my keister had sprouted a fountain. My husband took it and within a short time developed terrible chills. I think, from this point forward, I will just deal with the cough."

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "I took Delsym for a severe cough. It stopped the cough and made me drowsy. I took a nap and when I woke up I could not move! My body was paralyzed. My cognition was impaired. After a undetermined period of time I was able to move and call for help. Very lucky to have been taken to a local VA Hospital where my blood tests indicated my immune system was compromised and my platelet count was 50,000 which they told me if I was in a serious accident I would bleed out. I was told that Delsym was a bad OTC Cough Syrup and would produce serious interactions with other Prescribed Medications. This near death experience can be documented."

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "I honestly wasn't sure if it was the medication that did this to me, until I just almost took it again and decided to read reviews. A couple hours after I took it, I woke up three different times due to extreme stomach pain. The third time I decided to try to go to the bathroom. My stomach hurt so bad that I felt like the muscles in my stomach were just stuck tight. I felt like I couldn't even go to bathroom because it hurt so bad. After having extreme pain and diarrhea, I started getting chills, lightheaded and swearing profusely. I seriously thought I was going to die and started dialing 911, before laying on my bathroom floor for a couple minutes and it stopped. I wasn't even sure if it was the medication before reading all these."

For Cough "One of the most horrible drugs I've taken in my life. Mind you it was very effective at suppressing the cough, but it gave me vertigo like no tomorrow. I had HUUUUGE dilated pupils, severe dizziness, vertigo (cannot walk unassisted), confusion and retrograde amnesia. I had to take one day off work plus the whole weekend to lay in bed trying to fight the dizziness. It is now the 4th day since I took the drug (extended release pill x 3 doses) and I'm still fighting the side effects. It has severely impaired my ability to concentrate at work and I do not recommend this for ANYBODY."

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "My 8 yr old was having a dry hacking cough after the flu. Used robitussin, it helped a little. Bough deslyn children's and gave her 5ml. She was complaining of a headache and stomach ache within an hr! She couldn't eat dinner, says she feels like throwing up, I'm rubbing her belly now and reading reviews now. Don't use this medication!"

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "Been using this for about 7-8 years now. Unlike the sugar laced alcohol that is in most cough syrup, this stuff is the best. Takes about 45 min before it starts working, but after that, no more cough. In regards to diarrhea, no one in my family has had the experience described by some (or the same person posting over and over)"

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "A lot of negative reviews here. I find Delsym to be very effective treating my cough. No symptoms of diarrhea at all. Of course I don't take it on an empty stomach. Anyway, pretty good stuff in my opinion."

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "Took recommended dose at night. Woke up completely disoriented and dizzy - and had extreme waves of anxiety and feeling like I was going to pass out all day. Finally seemed to wear off around 24 hours later but was THE WORST experience. This was actually my second time - I tried it again just to make sure that it was the medicine causing it and not some strange panic attack. It's definitely the medicine."

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "After having a nasty cold/cough for 5 days I had to do something, I was getting tired of sleeping in a recliner so I decided to give Delsym a try. Now it did help with the dry cough, I was still woken up to the gasping painful coughs but it was better than being awake almost all night long. I do have ibs-d and Delsym made me be in the bathroom most of the morning and it gave me the hang over headache. So Yes it did stop most of my coughing but who wants to spend the next day in the bathroom bent over in pain from cough syrup."

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "Took Delsym for the 1 time on 02/19. I felt high, family said I was child like. No memory. Wasn't sure what caused it. The 2 time took it 09/19. After taking it my family said I was acting really weird. No memory of it but acted drunk and my daughter took video to show me. I was crying because my vision was blurred & also not being able to get orange juice out of cup.I was saying I want my mom & making things out of toilet paper. They said it was pitiful. Talking like a kid, my balance off, kept feeling like liquid was coming out my ear. Horrible head & muscle aches.I didn't get diarrhea like others but got dehydrated. Had sleep where you wake up thinking it had been hours but also had vivid dreams. Slept 12 hours. Didn't take cough away. My head felt like someone squeezing it & trying to pop my eyes out. Felt like I had been drinking last night and I don't drink at all. I know it was the delsym and looking up the side effects, I fall under overdose category. I didn't take the full dose."

For Cough "Works very quickly after taking it. However, supposed to last 12 hours and after about 5 hours I was coughing again and couldn't take anything due to the medicine still being in my system (12 hours wasn't over). I also had to go to the bathroom (upset stomach) after taking but I am not sure if there is a correlation. I do think it works much better than any other over the counter cough suppressant that I have tried with this cough, and this was a very terrible cough!"

Robitussin CoughGels Long-Acting (dextromethorphan) for Cough "Every time there's a virus or allergies in the air due to having asthma I usually end up catching bronchitis from it and these by far are the only thing that really helps the coughing. Not to mention I've tried A LOT of other cough suppressants even prescriptions and these truly do help better than any I've found! I would definitely recommend trying them!"

Delsym (dextromethorphan) "My son had chronic ear Infections when he was little and continues to have them every time he gets a cold. He is now 30 years old and continues to use Delsym 12 Hour Cough Syrup to avoid an ear Infection. He takes a dose at night and a dose in the morning at onset of a cold. As the cold begins to subside he stops the dose in the morning and just takes it at night until the cold is completely gone. I've told a lot of people about it and only one person has told me that it didn't work. I have taken Delsym myself and neither of us have experienced feeling drugged or have had the explosive diarrhea that others on these reviews have spoken of. Everyone is different as to what they can tolerate. It thins the mucous so it can drain properly and not cause the infection. I'm no doctor but just figured it out on my own years ago when I was told that it thins the mucous. I had him try it and he has been avoiding ear infections every since. Beats antibiotics and surgeries."

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "I took Delsym 12 hr for a cough and it worked pretty good for me. I thought I did not have any side effects from it. A few days later I found that my Fibromyalgia pain had nearly disappeared, so what I worked out was great dextromethorphan for fibromyalgia pain. I was able to go to bed and get out of bed without any pain. I had almost forgot what it was like to be pain free. After much research on the active ingredient in Delsym, it was confirmed that dextromethorphan does block pain receptors in the brain. I continued to take the recommended dosage at 10AM and at 10PM. After about a month I it seemed I was more tired than usual. I cut the dosage back to just once at 10PM and was hopeful that would help with me being tired. Yes, it was better but still too tired every day. I have stopped Delsym completely. My pain is back in full fibromyalgia force but being tired has gotten much better. So, do I want to be tired all the time or do I want to deal with pain all the time. I haven't decided that yet."

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "Recommended by Pharmacist for persistent dry cough. Took about 1 hour to notice any difference. Then it seemed to virtually stop the cough. I stuck to the twice a day measuring cup instructions and was very pleased with the result. It did not completely stop the cough but stopped it being a constant problem. Would recommend for dry coughs. None of the drowsiness that some other cough medicines induce."

Delsym 12 Hour Cough Relief (dextromethorphan) for Cough "I started taking this medicine a week ago for a sinus infection related cough. I noticed more anxiety and doing a lot of running to the bathroom. I thought it was from just being sick and taking an antibiotic. For Cough "I'm currently sitting on the toilet because I literally cannot finish washing my hands before I have to come back. Took it last night and was up from 2-4 pooping my brains out, just shook it off as something I ate. Took it again tonight, and the repeated i diarrhea has confirmed it was the robitussin"

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "First time trying this cough medicine. Had a persistent cough for more than 2 weeks so I decided to try it as I hadn’t been sleeping well due to my persistent coughing. The medicine works great on getting rid of the cough however it comes with the side affect of feeling drunk yet high at the same time. I am very lethergic initially an hour after taking it. However, then I have this mental clarity phase where I become very focus and productive about 5 to 6 hours after taking the medicine. I will continue to use it for my cough as it works and because I don’t mind the side affects."

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "I took this syrup after my dinner and woke up with heavy head and dizziness and it only got worse by the afternoon. To an extent that if I close my eyes everything will start spinning. Its more than 24 hours now and I am still facing this issue. Will never recommend this to anyone."

Buckley's Mixture Cough Suppressant (dextromethorphan) for Cough "Severe coughing and cold, tried other over the counter cough and cold products. The only product that really worked was Buckley Cough Mixture and I did not experience any side effects. I recommended it to many people and it worked for them. Now we can't find it anywhere. "

I immediately felt anxious, wide awake, and restless. 3 hours later, bad diahrrea. The effect it had on reducing my cough was minimal."

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "My six year old daughter is an asthmatic and the coughing she does while having a cold/flu tend to trigger it. I wanted to try a cough medicine just for bedtime to help her sleep comfortably without coughing spells. Sure enough Delsym did the trick! I had tried Mucinex and several others for children but felt they only made it worse. Within 35 min. The couching had stopped. I give Delsym an 8 out of 10 because it doesn't last the full 12 hours but close to it. My daughter had no side effects as far as bowel movements, gas, or hives. Just a cured cough"

Delsym (dextromethorphan) for Cough "My 9 year old son had a severe cough. The doctor has always recommended this cough medicine. My son was very dizzy and felt horrible after one dose. 24 hours later his pupils are still enlarged. I will never use this medicine again."
