ParaGard (copper) "I will say I started off loving Paragard. Insertion was easy. My first one expelled within the first month which is common but I got a new one placed. I loved it for about 2 years then I learned about copper toxicity. I can account some of my SEVERE disabling mental illnesses to this device. The first 6 months cramps were worse but manageable and ever since my PMSing has gotten horrible. I basically have the flu symptoms for 2 days before every cycle. My breasts grew practically overnight somewhere between 16-18 months with the Paragard. Before I was barely filling out an A cup now I’m a D cup. Nonhormonal my ass, it influences hormones. I’ve had stomach problems, UTIs, yeast infections, smells from down there, pain with sex, chronic fatigue, bloating, allergies developed, memory issues/brain fog, skin problems (acne and persistent eczema that I’m just finally getting to clear up) I’ve gained weight and overall just feel like garbage. Please avoid this device"

ParaGard (copper) "Do not get this device. It stalks you. It dumps copper into your body by hiding in the muscles and dumping it out during stress that brings mind blowing anxiety and terrible malaise during detox. This device is detrimental to your adrenals. Adrenal burnout is a side effect. It really messes with your mind It cause emotional roller coasters that will leave you screaming at the ones you love. Drs need to get on board. Research needs to be done."

"Insertion? Awful. I haven't had kids, so of course my pain tolerance is going to be low. The pain doesn't last long - basically, if you want a good hormonal birth control just suck it up. For me, the day I got it I had pretty damn bad cramps, but by the next day they were nonexistent. About a week before my period I was getting cramps here and there - nothing Tylenol couldn't take care of. Now I just got my period, and I'm going to be honest it is heavy. I do have some cramps with it, but nothing like I have experienced in the past. I have lost weight since getting off the pill. My mood, it's stable for once! Sex is still great, I feel great, boyfriend loves it too! Especially the no hormone part! I highly recommend it."

ParaGard (copper) "No issues at all here. People said it hurts getting it in- didn't hurt me. People said it caused them heavy bleeding- not me. Severe cramps-nope. Spotting/bleeding between periods- no. I'm also sure that what you "experience" with Paraguard may depend on how your cycles were before getting it put in. I love it."

"My Complicated experience with the insertion of the copper IUD. It was "one of the most difficult & Complicated IUD insertions I've had in a very long time" quoting the words of my Gynecologist MD. Now I have not been sexually active for over a year and a half (by choice) & I've never had kids so that for one was a concern for my doctor since she said i might be very tight & feel pain. Anywhom I am 23 and recently decided to date again & wanted to have a convinient birth control that won't affect my weight or cause acne since acne has recently been a new battle for me, so my first step was hitting the Internet for options. After reading many reviews for multiple birth controls I decided on the copper para guard which is for 10-12 years. Now I went to my doctor and had a screening for STDs & HIV which is protocol to any birth control procedure. Then pregnancy tests were taken a few days before the insertion and the day of the insertion, after everything came out negative I was ready for my IUD. I was schedule to go in on Tuesday September 1, 2015 so I went in with anticipation of pain and I was very nervous. Mostly because it was something new for me to have a speculum inside me since I just had my first Pap smear ,ever, two weeks prior to the IUD insertion. As my doctor placed the speculum I had some discomfort, she had trouble finding my cervix, after some time she had everything positioned right and began to try and dilate my cervix, right when she started I began to feel extreme cramping. My doctor could not get her tool that she used to dilate my cervix to stay in, I was too tight due to the fact that I've never had kids so it wasn't easy, my cervix kept pushing the prob out. She attempted a few more times until I couldn't take the pain anymore because the cramping became so severe I began to cry. Now I know i sound ridiculous crying but I have a pretty high tolerance for pain & I never understood how many woman couldn't take the cramping they had when on their period because I don't experience cramping on my periods, at least until now. I now have so much more sympathy for those who do have this pain every month. My doctor gave me other birth control options because she wasn't successful in Inserting the IUD but she knew I didn't want others so she offered to use an anesthetic on my cervix to help with the insertion (which is not normally a part of the procedure but since I had a special case she offered this option to me). I was not happy with the fact that I had to have a needle inserted in my cervix but this was the birth control I wanted and I was going to do whatever to get it. I was in too much pain that day so I had to come back the next morning. So here I go Wednesday morning into my doctors office, laying down ready to get a needle inserted into my cervix which terrified me because I already knew how painful it was but I didn't feel a thing when she put the anesthetic, I was told I would feel a slight sting and some burning sensation but I didn't feel anything. It took her about 15 min to position the IUD correctly, she had to dilate me 8cm to get a good view and make sure I had a successful insertion. I felt NOTHING & then she was done. Right after she had me lay down for a few minutes then had me slowly sit up, I felt like I was going to faint, The MD said my eyes were not focusing on her and I was so pale. At that point my whole face and hands where numb. She stayed there with me until I regained full blood flow to my upper body. FYI my doctor said some woman actually faint after the procedure & in some rare cases they even have seizure because the pain of dilating the cervix is so intense. I was lucky of not having any cramps because my cervix was numb. 8 hrs later the numbness began to fade & the pain started, I got prescribed 600 Tylenol which helped a little. I spotted the next 3 days, I had to use pantie liners. Then my period came 1 week early just 4 days after I got my IUD placed, it was very heavy the first 3 days with medium cramping and my period lasted 5 1/2 days. My usual periods post the IUD was 4 days with only 1 heavy day. I have now had my IUD going on 3 weeks and I have little spotting every day so I use liners all the time. Now the part that I was most nervous about was the whole "me checking if I can feel the IUD strings" Its something I'm a bit uncomfortable doing mostly because I've never done it before so the first couple of times I tried to check for the strings I couldn't feel anything so I began to freak out and rushed to my doctors office after my unsuccessful attempts. She said to wait until my first period was over and then to try again. I tried again after my period and I still couldn't feel anything then I found a way to check that best fits me since I have small hands so I'll share my wisdom with you guys lol. I check in the shower every morning I lift one leg as if I'm going to shave then I insert my pointer and I squat a little which helps and I'm able to feel the tip of the strings. I have not had any cramping since my period and my discharge has reduced. I'm very happy with my IUD & I plan on using it safely and responsibly as I have heard many woman have got pregnant with the IUD. I still plan on using condoms because of STDs and I got the IUD as a backup just in case. I plan on keeping it for the full 10 year unless there are any complications. Sorry for the long story but I for one would have loved to hear the entire experience someone had so I decided to share mine. Hope it helps at least one person :)"

ParaGard (copper) "I used Nexplanon before and had terrible mood swings so I thought Paraguard would be a better alternative being non-hormonal. I had ParaGard for 4 months and noticed I was way more fatigued and anxious with bad cramps and my period was heavy, I was bleeding through an extra large maxi pad in an hour. I went to get it out and they said it was stuck and I may have needed surgery to get it out! Took three tries to finally yank it out a few days ago and already feel so much calmer and less in pain. Instead I’m going to use natural family planning (apps like Lily allow you to track your cervical mucus and temperature and cycle to be more effective) with barrier methods like condoms or cervical caps during my fertile times. Really disappointed in this contraception method, I have PCOS as well and found it made my symptoms much worse than before. I wish I didn’t get it to save myself 4 months of anxiety and laying in bed with debilitating cramps."

ParaGard (copper) "Oh my! I just had my Paragard replaced today due to having it for 10 years. I want to point out that every single person is different. Please remember this. I had zero negative complications except for heavier periods the first few years. They did return to normal. Please do not let negative reviews stop you from trying this. It’s been the best birth control, as I had one child and that shop is closed. Again, try it for yourself. This or any IUD for that matter."

ParaGard (copper) "Insertion was extremely painful to me, but I was okay an hour later. I had it for one week before I wanted it out of me, the cramps were so bad I had to sit down no matter where I was, or I'd feel the urge to vomit. I kept it for 13 months, hoping it would get better, but it didn't. I was told to expect cramps and longer/heavier periods, but I didn't expect 10-14 day periods with spotting in between. I can count the days I DIDN'T bleed on one hand. I had emotional issues with Paragard as well. I was anxious, angry, and depressed, I had nothing going on in my life that would have caused the mental health issues, so I know it was the IUD. It claims to be "hormone free", but it does effect hormones. Long story short, I hated Paragard. I'm working on getting a refund, and getting the side effects the myself and other people had listed in the pamphlet through the FDA."

ParaGard (copper) "I had the Paragard for a year and a half and I experienced side effects of nausea ,hair loss , depression and really bad anxiety. I had my periods 2 times a month I was loosing a lot of blood and I talk to my doctor and she told me that the symptoms I had didn’t have anything to do with the Paragard. I recently took out the iud and all those symptoms were gone would definitely not recommend!"

ParaGard (copper) "I had the copper IUD for 18 months. Recently just had it taken out because of considerate amount of side affects due to copper toxicity. I experienced brain fog, weight gain "40lbs" to be exact, body aches, headaches, ZERO ENERGY, stomach issues, very bad cystic acne, and my mental health declined. Also, I became severely anemic. My periods consisted with a lot of blood clots, and heavy bleeding. I would not recommend this birth control, because it took away my happiness for 18 months. I am excited to see improvements come now that this birth control is out of me. NEVER AGAIN will I put a foreign object inside my body."

"2 stars because I didn't get pregnant. That said, I had the Paragard for a year and a half. I've never had kids, and insertion was awful, but only lasts for a few minutes. Like many others, I experienced extremely heavy, painful periods that lasted about 7 to 8 days each. The worst part for me, however, was the fact that I got near-constant bacterial vaginitis and yeast infections throughout the entire time I had it in. I can't even imagine how many rounds of Diflucan and antibiotics I had. Once it was removed, the infections went away and I've been problem-free ever since."

ParaGard (copper) "I got the paragard about a month ago. Just started this month period I don't feel any pain or anything you know just the normal you know pressure from bleeding but I mean honestly I don't recognize a difference but I do know that birth control affects everyone differently. I had the hormonal IUD taken out because I noticed some weight gain and I didn't like how it made me feel anxious and irritated. I am on some prescriptions for anxiety and depression and sleep but I didn't like how that one made me feel like definitely notice a difference with this one my medications are working like they normally would and I'm not agitated at don't have weight gain I've actually lost some weight. I love this and it's not bad. It's not painful. And the bleeding isn't bad either it's pretty normal for me"

I have had horrible insomnia, fatigued and tired all the time, feel weak, headaches, sometimes get nauseous for no reason, I have HORRIBLE cramps, menstruating or not, I've had the WORST anxiety and depression issues, awful thoughts that worsen it, no libido whatsoever, hair is constantly tangly and dry, and I get these weird painful, rashy, bumps on my face that stick around FOR EVER. I just don't feel like ME anymore and it all started after I got this IUD in Feb 2018. DON'T risk this."

ParaGard (copper) "Had the Paragard put in just over a week ago and the side effects were SO severe that I had to beg to get it taken out only a week after. PLEASE do your own research on copper toxicity related to the insertion of the IUD. There is no information about this on the NHS websites but thousands of people have been affected by this. More research needs to be done on this contraceptive. Due to word length restrictions, I can only list my side effect symptoms: - anxiety and panic attacks - significant hair loss (2 bald patches a month before my wedding!!) - bloated stomach - zero energy - brain fog (felt like a zombie) - craved junk food (normally eat clean) - insomnia (usually sleep like a doormouse) I got it out a few days ago and am already feeling SO much better. Not 100% better but I’m seeing a huge improvement already. Trust your instincts over and above a medical professional telling you you shouldn’t have any symptoms from it."

ParaGard (copper) "I have had my Paragard for one year, and it's been great! Insertion was not pleasant, but it only lasts a moment and now it's nothing but a distant memory. My periods were heavier and my cramps more severe for the first three months, but after that they returned to nearly the same as before. So many people wrote about their terrible experiences that reading up almost stopped me from doing it, and now I'm so glad I got it anyway. Just remember that those who had a negative experience are more likely to post about it, so there's a bias! It's also totally possible that it will go just fine and be a fantastic BC method. Don't be too afraid to try it and see if it's right for you, you can always take it out if it's not."

ParaGard (copper) "DO NOT GET THIS DO NOT GET THIS. You will poison your body, even if it takes years to notice you can hurt yourself. I had mine 4 years and had several horrific experiences that I thought were related to other things. At the end it was all that stupid IUD. There are many people trying to sue the company, it's not worth the risk!!"

ParaGard (copper) "My personal symptoms regarding copper toxicity; heart racing, anxiety insomnia, depresion, lethargic, headaches , no energy, migraines so bad I couldn't see, fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, memory loss, mental fog, loss of taste, metal taste in mouth, low sex drive, my body odor was 10 times worse under arms and vaginal, hair oils double, my eyes turned darker dirty looking, the white part of eyes turned yellow, my veins in my eyes ruptured, pain in eyes, vision problems, nausea, vomit, diarrhea once a week, weight gain (20pds), felt like my body was shutting down .Oh and one more got candidiasis."

ParaGard (copper) "I did a review a month ago about the insertion, this review is just an update how the Cooper IUD Paragard is working for me for my first month, every girl concern: Sex is great he doesn't feel it, I don't feel it or get any discomfort during intercourse. Menstrual: for my surprise my period is the same, is not heavier, I don't have abnormal cramps, just the usual ones for the first or second day, days are the same for me, Overall every person and every body reacts different but to have your own experience you just have to try it, for me has been the best BC I have used.. Don't just judge the IUD Based on what you read and give it try. 10yrs of no worries is worth it.. :)"

ParaGard (copper) "I've had paragard for 2 years now and ever since I've had it my mental health declined rapidly and I all of the sudden I had depression and panic attacks! I also haven't been able to sleep right or really feel like myself. I'm getting it removed tomorrow. After doing tons of research, I've found that I am not the only one who has experienced these type of issues and wanted to put this out there! I've recently been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and I've has anxiety all my life but since I've had this IUD it intensified tremendously to where its uncontrollable and I have to take medicine daily just to be "normal " I find it extremely strange. I'd think twice before using this."

ParaGard (copper) "This is my second time having the Paragard IUD inserted. During the first insertion, I wound up having a terrible vasovagal attack. If you are not quite sure what that is: When your vagal nerve is triggered you can have an attack that causes extreme symptoms (sweating, shakes, diarrhea, vomiting, tunnel vision, drop in blood pressure etc.) I just had my second one inserted yesterday (I cannot handle hormones; I turn into a crazy person), and I requested a local anesthetic because of my first insertion horror story. THIS WAS THE BEST DECISION I COULD HAVE EVER MADE! The insertion was absolutely painless. I felt the first shot of the local anesthetic; the doctor allowed for a few minutes for it to kick in, then administered the other four shots--did not feel a thing! I highly recommend that if you are scared of the pain, or if you have syncope, or vasovagal attacks to, without question, request a local anesthetic."

ParaGard (copper) "I hope this review helps someone make the decision not to get this. This birth control ruined the whole year of 2019 for me and I still don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. It affected my hormones, gave me sinus problems which led to ear problems. I was getting sciatica pain, restless legs, hip pain, brain fog, anxiety attacks, I gained so much weight, joint pain. A lot of these have gone away some have diminished and some I still deal with, even though its been 6 months since removal. I had it 2 yrs 8 months and I was In perfect health before this."

ParaGard (copper) "I got this Paragard and after about 1 year after I started to have horrible brain fog, couldn’t remember words, then started to have vision problems and dizziness, then came the headaches and cystic acne, the headaches were present every day, felt like pressure was too high inside my head, my ear started to click, I could hear my heartbeat on my ear, I was always super tired and moody, it was so hard to get out of bed, then I started having nystagmus and bruxism to the point of breaking my teeth and having jaw pain, got it removed and 90% of the symptoms went away. The liver stores the copper so it is hard to detect on serum. Worst thing I’ve done in my life."

ParaGard (copper) "I love my ParaGard! I’ve had it for a month. Insertion was uncomfortable but nothing you can’t handle. Some cramps the first week, and a slightly longer heavier period, but again nothing not manageable. I love how I can’t feel it and how it is hormone free. No adverse side effects, and the best part is how I still ovulate and keep a healthy cycle. I’ve been on the pill and Mirena before, and had emotional PMS and also terrible acne. None of that with ParaGard so far, and I often react quickly to things. Don’t fear all he negative reviews. Usually people who are most angry angry write the most reviews. Most people get it, enjoy it, and move on with their lives without writing a review. I feel healthy and positive and love owning my own birth control in a positive and non hormonal way! No one method is perfect but for me it’s a great fit based on what’s available."
