For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Took one dose of this clarithromycin medicine with amoxicillin to start triple therapy for H pylori. The taste is like you just ate a metal sandwich and it doesn’t go away. Other side effects I have is itching, extreme paranoia and insomnia at night. I was convinced someone was breaking into my house. Contacted my GI and let her know that this medication isn’t going to work for me. I am very sensitive to antibiotics and have anxiety so hopefully others don’t experience the same thing."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Bad breath or bad taste was one of my primary symptoms prior to getting on this medication. By day 1 it disappeared well started disappearing. How ever it was replaced with a new terrible taste that doesn’t go away. I am only aware of the taste at night. U wake up like what is this? lol.... I may feel a little weaker but I just took an energy drink and energy increased. Now to find a way to eliminate this strange taste that lives in my throat now. It’s better than having bad breath for sure, super glad I’m taking it"

For Sinusitis "I have had sinus infection since February of this year. Been on antibiotics twice and nasal spray, none of which had helped, after the 2nd coarse of antibiotics I developed a raging flu, which kept me in bed. When it was not clearing, 10days later, returned to my doc and was given Claithromycin 7 day coarse. Have been told about the metallic taste, which I can cope with as long as it clears up this dreadful infection."

For Sinusitis "Very effective medication but the taste in the mouth is absolutely brutal and I find once the infection is gone and you still need to continue, your stomach starts getting upset.. The only thing that helped me not throw up from the taste is cinnamon gum! Hope it helps :)"

Biaxin (clarithromycin) for Bronchitis "Been on Biaxin earlier in the year for a sinus infection, worked like a charm then, and the side effects were slight. (Just the metallic taste.) Got prescribed it for bronchitis a couple of days ago and I've got the worst nausea, can't even look at or smell food."

For Sinusitis "I have been on this med for 5 days for a sinus infection. I am so close to calling it quits. I have been having bad anxiety, heart palpitations, clammy sweats, and feel shaky and weak on it. It makes food taste like crap and leaves a nasty battery acid taste in your mouth. I start to feel better in the couple hours coming up to my next dose (every 12 hours) and then BAM within an hour after taking the dose it all hits. It is definitley helping my sinus infection but this drug is hell. A pharmacist told me that this is in the top two antibiotics that are reported to have the worse side effects. Boooo. I also took a Zopiclone so I could sleep and woke up with a nasty reaction! Felt so high and dizzy, drugged out of my mind...terrifying."

For Pneumonia "After being laid low for a week with agonising painful throat and ears plus coughing up gunk and fever, took myself to walk-in medical centre ( live in UK) on a sat and prescribed amoxcillin 500mg as ear infection although told chest clear (v surprised). Got progressively worse, coughed all night and struggled for breath plus pain in ears and throat was horrendous ( I do have high pain theshold too !) and ended up getting emergency GP apptm thur am and diagnosed pneumonia and prescribed clarithromycin 500mg for 7 days. Feel better already ! Yes odd taste but I can swallow without grimacing and aren`t taking max painkillers per day as I was plus can eat again and chest so much better. No other symptoms. Good antibiotic :)"

Biaxin (clarithromycin) for Sinusitis "have used Biaxin (actually now always the generic version) for many years. Works great for me, always makes me feel much better within 12-18 hours of taking the first pill. Never had ANY side effects, except metallic taste - which has never bothered me (never been very strong). Great drug, wonderful for my chronic sinusitis. (Hint: I eat lots of miso when taking antibiotics; does wonders for my GI when taking antibiotics. Miso soup, miso on top of rice, miso in various dishes; just make sure you get the longest fermented one you can find - I buy 2-yr miso.)"

For Sinusitis "I'm on day 3 of Biaxin XL and I haven't experienced even one side effect, hoping it stays this way. Everyone is different and you can't judge it by others, I was scared to death after reading things on here. I started feeling better the next day also. So far so good."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Terrible taste in my mouth from this medication! It also dries you out! One of my chief complaints before being prescribed this med was a bad taste in my mouth. It was found to be from H Plylori. I do feel better in the stomach due to this medication but the horrible taste is way nasty!"

For Sinusitis "Only on day three of this medication and having occasional relief from my sinus infection pain. The only side effect I've had so far is this horrible taste in my mouth. I read on this site that someone used salt water swish in their mouth to cover it and it really works. Just 10 seconds of swishing and the taste is gone. I've had to do this every couple of hours but it's better than that terrible taste."

For Sinusitis "I got hit with chills, body aches and an extremely high fever out of no where (started and sky rocketed in an hour). I went to my doctor and she prescribed Clarithromycin - 500mg for 7 days, a nasal spray and ear drops for an ear infection. The first night I took it I did not feel any side effects, the 2nd and 3rd night I felt nauseous, a lot of pain in my abdominal area and could not fall asleep. This drug tastes like horse poo mixed with garbage, it leaves a vile taste in your mouth. However, it has helped with my infection, I am starting to come back to normal and general weakness has left my body. * Someone recommended swishing salt water to help with the taste, if you do this 3-4 times a day IT WILL HELP. Good luck to you all."

For Sinusitis "Been taking Biaxin for my 4th day. I got a really bad cold which left me with a sinus infection. I'm allergic to many things, and I always have issues with my sinus. This has worked great for clearing it up and relieving the pressure, but like everyone else on here, I too, am experiencing the awful taste it leaves in my mouth. It also has wrecked havoc on my stomach. My mother is being treated for the same cold, and she was up all night, the first day on them, vomited a lot. You have to suffer something in order to get the best results. This works, and I'll deal with whatever side effects it dishes out, if it means I can breathe again!"

For Sinusitis "The most disgusting taste in my mouth, even made my toothbrush smell weird. nasty chemical smell /taste, headache, blurry eyes, lack of concentration, nausea, stomach bloating and churning, vomited when brushing teeth. Horrible antibiotic, calling gp tomorrow to arrange for alternative antibiotic, cannot stand the taste or side effects."

For Bronchitis "I couldn't believe how quickly Clarithromycin worked. After two days, of two a day, I felt better than I had in weeks. There are side effects though, such as the dreadful taste that appears to last the entire time you are taking the medication."

For Bronchitis "Have been taking this med clarithromycin for bronchitis. The metallic taste for me is bearable. However, I am experiencing a heart rate that fluctuates and continues to be higher than normal. I know this because of my Fitbit. This med gives me anxiety and makes me agitated. Can't wait to finish it."

Biaxin (clarithromycin) for Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Worked great for infection but side effects were becoming disturbing after three days - bad taste always, couldn't sleep, too much energy - couldn't sit still, strange mental clarity and deliberate movements, frequent urination. After 3 days I didn't feel sick anymore but the side effects were too much."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Worked well as an anti biotic however the side effects were very distressing . Nausea . heart palpitations . Severe anxiety and feelings of impending doom . Un steadiness . The worse S/e s were the awful feelings of fear which were out of proportion . I felt as if I was about to faint because of the anxiety . I felt very upset and tearful about half an hour after taking them and the mental symptoms just escalated for a few hours . I will report these side effects to the GP and hopefully there is an alternative if I ever need A/b s again for a severe chest infection ."

For Sinusitis "I am on my second round of antibiotics and this time my dr prescribed clarithromycin. I am finally able to breath and inhale through my nostrils for the first time in months. I firstly after taking the pills noticed the awful indescribable taste in my mouth. BUT breathing is much better than taste when it comes to taking this medicine. It actually works- I am a coffee drinker and I found out that coffee takes the taste away and ginger gum works great for any nausea. Iam shocked of the results and my bowels are still normal. Late at night I am drinking grape or fruit juices to help with dry mouth or taste. Daily regiment of yogurt helps from avoiding any UTI or yeast infections! Happy recovering- hope this helps!"

For Bronchitis "I was prescribed this medicine 4 days ago for a really bad case of bronchitis. I felt so weak and generally just awful. I was so glad that the doctor gave me some antibiotics to clear up the infection; he also gave me 2 inhalers to help open up my airways. I was so light headed and pale. On day three I had a glass of wine and thought I was going to die, I was very cold and lightheaded (don't drink alcohol). Apart from my stupidity I'm feeling a little better, still coughing when I lay down but better overall; but the side effects are just awful. Theres the taste, but I also feel kinda out of it, I can feel the drug in my blood stream. One minute I want to lay down and the next I'm hyperactive. 4 more days (1000mg daily :("

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Two 500mg pills a day prescribed for groin pains. Started out with nausea, metallic taste, and stomach pains. Day 2 I had palpitations. The fifth pill took the side effects to another level. I went to bed with a song playing in my head that wouldn’t stop. It was hard to sleep. Eventually I slept. Then the first nightmare came. Then came intrusive and dark thoughts. I couldn’t reason myself out of it. I woke my wife up and told her that I’d gone mad and could no longer trust myself. Then more sleep, more nightmares. The next day I thought that I might have died in the night and was now in some kind of afterlife. By the evening my mental state had improved a great deal now. I have never suffered from any kind of mental illness before btw. I quit on the advice of a pharmacist."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am so angry after taking this drug. I have to take this for a H. pylori infection and it is absolutely nasty. I have a very HORRIBLE metallic taste in my mouth and I hate this drug with a vengeance. I am on my fourth day and I have not being a functioning human for four days. I am on the verge of giving up. I am abstaining from clarithromycin as far as I can in the future. Absolutely horrible experience."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "My doctor prescribed me this with amoxicillin for H. Pylori. First few days it made my stomach even more upset. WORST TASTE EVER! It's so gross and makes my mouth feel so dry and raw my tongue is inflamed. Boy.. did it work? Yes, my stomach started feeling better day 4. Was it worth it? I'd say yes. But be prepared to keep sipping on things and eat lots of hard candy to keep a nice taste in your mouth. I got a few more days to go hopefully this goes away for good!"

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "From day one on clarithromycin the taste in my mouth was vile. Other problems were horrific night terrors which one night gave me hallucinations! I started trying to stay wakened because I was so scared of falling asleep.Extreme anxiety and brain fog. I was constantly forgetting what I was saying and doing! Never again!! Still got the chest infection!"

Biaxin (clarithromycin) for Sinusitis "I just came down with sinusitis, something I've had in past years. I'm now in the second day of taking Biaxin's generic (Clarithromycin ) and on day one, several hours after the first dose I began to feel better. Now into day two the symptoms have lessened but they're still there. I've had good luck with Biaxin in the past, and its generic is living up to that performance. 10 days should clear this up completely."
