"I'm a 52 year old male that has suffered with long term depression for a the majority of my young and adult life. I came to terms with the fact that I must medicate in order to have a fighting chance. I called my doctor a few days ago and she recommended Wellbutrin based on my constant suicidal thoughts and battle with anxiety and depression. I was excited at the thought of "turning the page," of my life. I must say that I was absolutely surprised at how well and how fast Wellbutrin worked. I just can't express what a difference it's made in my personal life. Now I have a good chance of mending fences with family that I once ignored purposely due to my severe battle with depression. Only time will tell just how good Wellbutrin works - it's a beautiful start though! Wishing you all peace in your journey."

"Was very depressed and hadn't slept in 4 days. Was diagnosed with manic depression and insomnia. Was put on Wellbutrin XL and trazodone for sleep. They both have been a miracle for me. No side effects from either except for dry mouth."

"I had a rough time starting young with major depression and anxiety since middle school. My freshman year I started taking Lexapro. It was the worst possible thing that could've happened to me. Worst side effects ever. I gained over 40 pounds. I was tiny and petite to being around 125 to 170. Tried switching from many multiple different meds, still gained weight. Then my doctor finally put me on Wellbutrin, started off with the low dose and didn't really help much. She upped me to 150. I had hyperglycemia and finally got over it and got off of metformin. I am starting to finally lose some of that weight and about to look great for senior year. I highly recommend this medicine. It makes me not hungry anymore. I'm so happy now!"

"Wellbutrin XL has been great for me. I have been on it for a few months and have completely noticed the difference in my lifestyle and my libido. My doctor was giving me samples of the brand name but she ran out and my insurance wouldn't cover the brand. My Copay for the brand was $1300.00 I could NOT afford that so she reluctantly put me on the generic. It was HORRIBLE. Worst experience of my life. Worst side effects ever. Luckily I came across another Pharmacy and they fill your Wellbutrin brand name for $50 a month. It's been great! Back on Wellbutrin and feeling amazing!!"

"Wellbutrin worked very well for me and did so in a matter of weeks. I started at 150mg SR per day and felt somewhat better. When increased to 300mg XL I felt virtually normal. I don't know if it saved my life, but it certainly let me feel life was worth living. The only side effects I have had are slight weight loss and somewhat more energy. Both of these side effects are actually welcome."

"It took a month or so but honestly the best medication I've ever been on. I tried over 15 different things before and finally wellbutrin allows me to feel happy and depression is much more manageable. I will say side effect wise I have a decrease in appetite and have lost around 12 pounds in 4 months. I am also more easily angered based on my menstrual cycle."

"I started taking 150mg about two years ago quickly went up to 300mg. My motivation went back to a normal level and I started painting, drawing and cooking again. My only issue was that I started getting daily headaches (after I had been on it for six months). My doctor put me on 150mg which got rid of the headaches, but my motivation got worse. I felt like I could do things I couldn’t when depressed, but also like I needed to convince myself to do anything extra. My doctor then gave me 5mg of lexapro on top of the Wellbutrin and its good. Recently got my blood work done for being fatigued, sleeping a LOT and brain cloudiness - its because I have a severe vitamin D deficiency. I highly recommend getting your bloodwork done if you feel like this suddenly loses effectiveness. A low vitamin D level can also cause depression which probably made it harder for me to feel better even on medications. Also look into getting this prescription from walmart, it is apparently $9"

"So I was on Lexapro 20mg for 3 months and it helped somewhat with my very SEVERE depression that I was suffering from with severe anxiety, It was HELL! So my next appointment with the nurse practitioner I was prescribed bupropionXL and she told me to add it to my lexapro and too take both together, but as soon as I started too take them both I got very emotionally sad and numb, so my sister told me to stop taking the lexapro to give the bupropion a chance to work on its own and that has helped so much because now I feel a lot better then before and I'm only taking 150mg XL. Just wanted to share my experience with anyone."

"Wellbutrin XL (Buproprion) has helped me kick cravings for alcohol and other drugs. It's really amazing. My doctor prescribed it for major depressive disorder/ptsd and I can feel it helping me get through the winter. I started out on 150mg for 2 months which was fine, then one month on 300mg which was too much (every day stomach-aches, shakes, too much energy, very speedy) so doctor put me back on 150mg XL which is again working nicely and all the shaky/speedy feeling I had on 300mg is gone. My first 2-3 months on this drug I didn't have much of an appetite but it came back after that so now I still eat normally even though I'm on the drug. So yeah, It takes some getting used to. Don't expect immediate results."

"I have only been in bupropion XL for 2 and a half weeks I'm on it for MDD. But that being said I can see it starting to work. I am not as anxious as I normally am. My thoughts seems more rational and aren't spirally out of control like they normally do. I was on Celexa for years but found it wasn't working and climaxing was such a struggle to achieve . My female libido is really coming back to what it was 20 years ago! I really am excited that I am starting to feel more happy and not so easily irritated. Give it a try if you are struggling. I'm sure it's not for everyone but , you won't know until you try :)"

"I was on the 75mg SR formulation for a week before taking two a day. Went to 150 XL the next month and 300 XL after that. Been on it for about 3 months now. I love this medication. It's changed my life. I don't feel depressed very often anymore and combined with therapy, my life is substantially better. No side effects at all! Much better than Lexapro, which gave me bad sexual side effects."

"For the past five years I have been battling depression. I feel extremely fatigued and unmotivated with thoughts of wanting to be dead. Life is totally miserable most times. I went from Cymbalta to Wellbutrin and after a few weeks I started to feel alive again. After about a year on it now I am back to my old depressive ways and my doctor is reluctant to start me on something new. So right now I am miserable again and waiting for my doctor to try something different. I wish all the best to everyone out there fighting this terrible disease!"

"I have taken Wellbutrin since 1984. I liked that it eliminated my sex drive. I didn't like that it got rid of my ability to recall dreams. Surprisingly, it also inhibited my ability to cry. It numbed me, allowing me to retain jobs for most of the past 35 years. Yes, Wellbutrin has saved my life, kept me employable, checked my over-the-top sex drive and numbed me. Recent health issues kept being labled as 'depression' by medical people until I gave my doctor a list of blood and urine tests I wanted. I was finally diagnosed as pre-diabetic, low Vitamin D levels and excessively low iron - not depression. So I'm back on 150 mg of Wellbutrin, as I've been on and off it for nearly 35 years."

"I highly recommend Wellbutrin XL. I used to suffer from major depression, but thanks to the Wellbutrin, my depression is almost nonexistent. Another great thing about it is I don't have any side effects. In the beginning, I lost my appetite & everything tasted bland. I was fine with that because I wanted to lose some weight, but thanks to my other medications my appetite came back. Darn! Maybe if you take it & want to lose weight you will get lucky as long as you don't take other medications to counteract it."

"I switched from Zoloft to Wellbutrin November 2019. When I first started I had of course beginning side effects from anxiety, stomach issues, appetite loss, etc. All those symptoms slowly passed and I noticed a change in my mood, as did others. I not only have depression but anxiety as well. When I started this my anxiety got worse then better then worse again, my doctor prescribed me buspar for my anxiety it did end up helping for a short time until recently. I had a very awful and my first panic attack. I decided to get off Wellbutrin as my anxiety was at an all time high. The withdrawal symptoms are not so great, but I’m glad I’m off of it. If you have depression then this medication is great but if you have anxiety I would consider a different route. Everyone is different and experiences medication differently so do not take what I said and apply that to yourself. Talk to your doctor and see what is right for you. Best of luck"

"I'm 16 and am limited to medications that are safe for me to take because of an extreme anxiety order I have. When I first started Wellbutrin it was slow to see changes but now I can honestly say it's helped me so much. Something a lot of people don't know is that it may also help you lose weight in certain situations. I began my sophomore year at about 180 lbs and now I'm at 155. (I am 5'7") I feel so much healthier now and also happier. I highly recommend this for teens who are struggling with other medicines."

"I had major depressive disorder, which became worse during the winter months due to seasonal affective disorder, and was also diagnosed with borderline personality. Within a week of taking Wellbutrin, I went from having crazy mood swings and anger outbursts everyday to feeling calm and stable. For me, it has no listed side effects except weight loss which was a positive!"

"I was so depressed for several years that I could no longer manage my own hygiene, cooking, cleaning or even leaving my apartment. I tried multiple antidepressants and mood stabilizers, nothing worked. Then I was put on Wellbutrin XL and two months later my hygiene is managed, I've lost 20 kg and am no longer obese, I am outside again and even using public transport. I had no light left in my life and I was planning to end it. This medication saved my life."

"I've only been on this medication since the 18th of this month, but one thing that I have noticed with this medication is that it is helping me to not have a constant appetite. I was not only needing help with depression, but I was also needing help with weight loss and at this point I don't know how the weight-loss will/will not work with med, but I do know that I do not have an appetite like before taking this. And for that I am very grateful. I also understand that it could take 3 to 4 weeks before I notice the effects for the depression. I am hopeful!"

"Since patients come to this site to gauge whether to try a new prescription, I'll describe how Wellbutrin XL 150mg has affected me in one week. I asked my doctor to switch from Celexa since it was just OK, but not as effective as I wanted. The first side effects I have been experiencing are: drowsiness in the mornings (not fatigue, but cold medicine), heart palpitations (when I have tea or coffee in the morning; coffee is 10x worse no matter when I drink it, even decaf). Also, in the afternoons or evenings I get this heavy, weighted feeling all over my body, like it's too hard to lift arms and legs, plus added sleepiness. On the plus side, I have not felt depressed or unmotivated. Above all, my libido has gone from 0 to 100 in a few days (I have never been completely mentally and physically engaged in sex before; something on my mind always got in the way)."
