In a general screen for opiates the codeine will show up as a morphine derived opiate. Oxycodone is derived from thebaine so it doesnt show on a general opiate screen, they have to have a test for thebaine derivatives. If the test is being given by pain management, they will be able to tell the difference. The good news is that one dose like that will likely be out of your system in 3-5 days. If the pain Dr asks just tell him you asked a family member for Tylenol and they gave you this and that you didnt know any better. Hopefully he will be sympathetic.
When there's an opiate it will show up in a drug test. I used to bake with poppy seeds. I baked some bread with poppy seeds, my husband ate it, and he failed a piss test at a new job. They didn't fire him. Even cough syrup will show up in lab work. It doesn't matter if the opiate is synthetic or what. I know that codeine can help so much with a bad cough or sinus infection. Take care there-and get well.
Hey brenda fain,
While codeine and oxycodone seem to have similar names the oxycodone doesn't contain codeine. However, they are both closely related as they are both opiates and will show as such on a general urine screen. So to answer your question tylenol 3 will show up as opiate as will the oxycodone.
Hope this helps,
Laurie
