Mytrex Side Effects

Generic name: nystatin / triamcinolone topical

For the Consumer

Applies to nystatin / triamcinolone topical: topical cream, topical ointment

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking nystatin / triamcinolone topical: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using this medication and call your doctor at once if you have any of these signs that you may be absorbing triamcinolone through your skin:

  • blurred vision, or seeing halos around lights;

  • uneven heartbeats;

  • mood changes;

  • sleep problems (insomnia);

  • weight gain, puffiness in your face; or

  • feeling tired.

Less serious side effects of nystatin / triamcinolone topical may include:

  • stinging, burning, itching, or skin irritation;

  • acne;

  • dry skin; or

  • changes in skin color.

Dermatologic

Dermatologic side effects associated with topical corticosteroids have included burning, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, skin maceration, secondary infection, skin atrophy, striae, and miliaria.

Irritation may occur rarely with nystatin, which is nonsensitizing and virtually nontoxic.

One case (1% of cases studied) of acneiform eruption has been reported with the use of the nystatin-triamcinolone topical combination.

Endocrine

Endocrine side effects associated with triamcinolone preparations have included adrenal suppression, hyperglycemia, and glycosuria in some individuals.
