Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking capsaicin topical (the active ingredient contained in Menthac Arthritis Cream with Capsaicin) hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Wash the skin and get medical attention right away if you have severe burning, pain, swelling, or blistering of the skin where you applied this medication.

Stop using capsaicin topical and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

• skin redness where the medicine was applied; or

• trouble breathing or swallowing (after accidental inhalation of capsaicin odor or dried residue).

Less serious side effects may include a mild burning sensation that can last for several hours or days, especially after your first use of capsaicin topical.

Local side effects have included transient stinging, burning, pain, edema, swelling, papules, dermatitis, bruising, urticaria, inflammation, exfoliation, erythema, hyperalgesia, paresthesia, hyperesthesia, anesthesia, pruritus, dryness, and abnormal skin color at the application site.

General

In general, no serious adverse events have been reported.

Nervous system

Nervous system side effects have included headache, burning sensation, peripheral sensory neuropathy, dizziness, dysgeusia, hyperesthesia, and hypoesthesia.

Gastrointestinal

Gastrointestinal side effects have included nausea and vomiting.

Cardiovascular

Cardiovascular side effects have included transient hypertension.

Respiratory

Respiratory side effects have included cough and throat irritation, nasopharyngitis, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
