Capsaicin topical Pregnancy Warnings

Capsaicin topical has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Animal studies have not revealed evidence of fetal teratogenicity at high human doses. Capsaicin topical should be used during pregnancy only when benefit outweighs risk.

Capsaicin topical Breastfeeding Warnings

There are no data on the excretion of capsaicin topical into human milk. Studies have demonstrated that capsaicin is excreted into the milk of lactating rats. The effects of capsaicin in the nursing infant are unknown. Capsaicin topical patches are administered as a single 60-minute application and capsaicin is rapidly cleared from the bloodstream. The manufacturer of the patches recommends that mothers can reduce infant exposure by not breast-feeding after treatment on the day of treatment.
