This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- lanthanum carbonate
- levofloxacin
Interactions between your drugs
levoFLOXacin lanthanum carbonate
Applies to: levofloxacin and lanthanum carbonate
Lanthanum carbonate and levoFLOXacin should not be taken orally at the same time. These medications may interfere with each other's absorption into the bloodstream, which may reduce the effects of both medications. To minimize the potential for interaction, avoid taking levoFLOXacin within 2 hours of taking lanthanum carbonate. Talk to a healthcare professional if you have questions on how to take these or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
levoFLOXacin food
Applies to: levofloxacin
When levoFLOXacin as the oral solution is given with enteral (tube) feedings, levoFLOXacin may not work as well. You could interrupt the feeding for 1 hour before and 2 hours after the levoFLOXacin dose. However, this still may not entirely avoid the interaction and may not always be feasible. LevoFLOXacin oral tablets may be taken without regard to food. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
lanthanum carbonate food
Applies to: lanthanum carbonate
Take lanthanum carbonate tablets with food or immediately after a meal to increase absorption by the body. Lanthanum carbonate tablets cannot be dissolved in water and therefore should not be given through feeding tubes because the tube may become clogged. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
