Usual Adult Dose for Edema
1 to 2 tablets or capsules (hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene 25 mg-37.5 mg) orally once a day or
1 to 2 capsules (hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene 25 mg-50 mg) orally once a day after meals or
1 tablet (hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene 50 mg-75 mg) orally once a day.
Usual Adult Dose for Hypertension
1 to 2 tablets or capsules (hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene 25 mg-37.5 mg) orally once a day or
1 to 2 capsules (hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene 25 mg-50 mg) orally once a day after meals or
1 tablet (hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene 50 mg-75 mg) orally once a day.
Renal Dose Adjustments
Hydrochlorothiazide is generally not effective in patients with creatinine clearance less than 25 mL/min. Thiazides should be used with caution in patients with severe renal disease.
Liver Dose Adjustments
1 tablet or capsule (hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene 25 mg-37.5 mg) orally once a day or
1 capsule (hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene 25 mg-50 mg) orally once a day after meals or
1 tablet (hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene 50 mg-75 mg) orally once a day.
Thiazides should be used with caution in patients with impaired hepatic function.
Dose Adjustments
Doses containing 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide may be doubled as needed at least 3 days after initial therapy.
Precautions
Safety and effectiveness have not been established in pediatric patients (less than 18 years of age).
Dialysis
Data not available. Although triamterene is 67% protein-bound, there may be some benefit to dialysis in cases of overdosage.
Other Comments
The maximum recommended dosages are:
2 tablets or capsules (HCTZ/triamterene 25 mg-37.5 mg) orally once a day or
2 capsules (HCTZ/triamterene 25 mg-50 mg) orally twice a day after meals or
1 tablet (HCTZ/triamterene 50 mg-75 mg) orally once a day.
