"I can’t speak for all but I had a pretty bad experience. I used this medication whilst I had covid, in which I suffered an extremely blocked nose. It cleared my nose within seconds and it lasted for about 9-10 hours. Incredible. However I then had an anaphylactic reaction. Hives appeared on my wrists and my throat was so swollen and in excruciating pain. I could not swallow a single thing. This was just after one spray in each nostril. My Dr has since confirmed I am allergic to Xylometazoline. Please check with your Dr before use. I wouldn’t want anyone else to experience this."

Otrivin (xylometazoline) "used otrivin daily for several years back in my early 20's.. I'm now 55. at about 22 my doctor told me I had the worst case of nasal membrane decay he had ever seen and said to stop using immediately, which I did. I later had rhinoplasty which helped my breathing immensely. I'm still kind of waiting for a nasal cancer diagnosis at some stage if my life.... cant be good using that stuff non stop can it."

Otrivin (xylometazoline) "Otrivin worked great for my blocked nose too. I had a blocked nose for a few days and it was starting to get too annoying, Otrivin cleared up within two minutes after use. It did exactly what I used it for."

Otrivin (xylometazoline) "Used otrivin at 3pm as my nose has been blocked up for 2 days. Within 5 to ten minutes my nose was clear but my sinuses were destroyed. It's like when you get right to the edge of a sneeze and then you don't. You know that burning feeling, yeah that. In my nose, throat, sinuses and ears. It is now 22h30 and I'm still in pain and running a fever of 38.5. There are other options out there....STAY AWAY"

Otrivin (xylometazoline) "I would rather get an epidural than use this. The burning in the back of my throat was so painful, I would barely swallow. It even was painful in my ears. Perhaps I sprayed too much or tilted my head back more than I should have, but it BURNS. Congestion gone though. Now my nose is just super runny and I think the back of my throat melted off."

Otrivin (xylometazoline) "Horrible nasal spray! I followed instructions, and only used 2 sprays in each nostril, every 8 hours for only 1.5 days (not even the 3 days mentioned on bottle). The third time I use it, it was horrible! My left nostril burned like crazy! I had a severe burning sensation for 20 minutes. And then after my nostril felt sore. Never again! Not only that, my face was a bit sore, and my gums were a bit sore hours later. And I felt a headache coming on. Those side effects are not worth clearing up nasal congestion from a cold! Be aware, this nasal spray is dangerous! It could possible damage the inside of your nose. I’ll never forget that burning feeling. It’s was like my nostril was on fire. I hope there is no damage at this point. And if there is, I hope it heals. "

"My nose is behaving perfectly when I'm clogged especially the menthol. I was using when I were the flu. But I'm addicted to the moment. I can't breathe without it. I've tried to stop my use of many times. But I can't stop, the alternative allergy sprays but they didn't open my nose. The quality of life has fallen so much. I'm having the headaches that are caused by not being able to breathe. Besides being an effective drug too dangerous. And in this 6 year I have been addicted to otrivine"

Otrivin (xylometazoline) "This nasal spray works in seconds and last for hours. I had a cold, stuffy runny nose and a constant draining at the back of my throat which cause me to cough incessantly, after taking otrivin all of my symptoms stopped. It can cause a slight headache if you take too much and you can get addicted because it works so well, then after a while you get rebound congestion so be aware of that, and only use it for a few days"

Otrivin (xylometazoline) "I have used it over two days with total of 4 doses. It worked and it did it job perfectly but then when I wanted to sleep I had insane palpations causing insomnia and I didn't end up getting any sleep. Apparently it is one of the side effects. When using it also noticed dried blood but when I stopped the blood is like mucus and won't stop."

"Hello guys. I was actually looking for a review the use of xylometazoline with itraconazole. I guess I should share my experience with Otrivine. I had a crazy congestion in july, 2019 and nothing I did worked. I got introduced to Otrivine a month later and in 5mins I had instant relief. At that point I would have done anything to be able to breath with my nose. I didn't check the dosage (which was unlike me). I just kept using it because it gave me relief. I used it for about 7 days and I noticed I had an inflamed sinus. I was diagnosed with rhinitis medicatosa, pan sinusitis and later aspergillosis. Maybe if I had read the leaflet I won't be in this mess a year later. The point is, if you want fast relief from congestion, then xylometazoline is your remedy. But do not use it for more than 3 days. I recommend once or twice in a week to reduce the risks of rebound congestion. Thanks for your time."

"I've always believed I need a sinus operation, as my father and sister have had one. I can't remember (even as a child) being able to ever fall asleep whilst breathing through my nose. I remember clearly, a family doctor saying "I will recommend something that will change your life. you will be pleased you tried it, try using Otrivin Nasal Spray before you go to sleep" I've been using it 15 Years straight ever since, I cannot sleep without it, or wake up without it. But only recently, I believe I'm starting to see negative side effects, my heart rate has increased and is more intense, and the worst thing (since the bottle &packaging has just changed, which makes me think the formular has also changed?) I've just spent hundreds on seeing a dentist, due to a 'bad taste in my mouth' which I honestly thought was down to an old amalgamated filling dissolving... only to work out, it's the Otrivin"

"Unfortunately usage resulted in a bad experience for me. I commenced using it the same day I got on a 1 hour flight (so only used it twice - afternoon and evening). I had a bit of a headache and overall unwell feeling after using it but not that bad I guess. Then later that evening on the flight I got very bad anxiety to the point that the flight attendants knew something was up and were checking on me (flight attendants were very kind :). I was diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder almost 8 years ago but have worked on it, take an anti depressant (Sertraline) and suffer no symptoms for many years. I regularly fly (don't love flying but do fly a lot for work and travel). I had no anxiety leading up to the flight but got very, very bad anxiety on the flight and was trembling, upset stomach and (diarrhea). I see it has been linked to nervousness so perhaps don't use it if you will be in nervousness inducing situation like I was (flying). I had such an awful experience."

Otrivin (xylometazoline) "I used to have frequent nasal blockages due to stuffy nose, Due to this I developed mouth breathing, Now I'm in my 20s, I took otrivin everyday for 4 months at low dosages, generally 1 drop per day. Luckily I never faced rebound congestion as my nose never stuffed up more than normal neither noticed any unusual symptoms. It worked well every time. While it's been 3 months now, I stopped taking it mostly due to avoid any future complications, I now use normal saline drops kinda gives reliefs."

"Used it for only 6 days before I realised it was making matters worse once the effect clears, made me wake up at night to use it on 2 occasions! On the 7th day had to go cold turkey without it but had a blocked nose the whole day with a very dry mouth so shifted to saline spray. One day is all it took to start feeling better.... Maybe the saline kinda washed it out?"

"Bought this because all the other sprays weren’t strong enough. It was all good for the first few days, made my nose all clear and dry but from the 3rd or 4th day I started sneezing and coughing constantly. Had a headache on the fifth and ended up with an anxiety attack. Waited a week then tried to reuse it. Nose was clear for 2 hours then had a rebound congestion. I don’t recommend against this drug since it’s fairly effective at what it does but just count yours days using it."

"The first time that I used it I found it a great spray to help me breathe and get rid of congestion. However after three days of using it, the allergic symptoms increased. I didn't know if it was related to this spray, so I tried to use it for more days. After a week of using it the efficiency of the drug decreased and after an hour again I had congestion even worst than the first days that it woke me up at night. When I searched on the internet I realized that it brings about congestion. I immediately stopped taking it but I had two horrible days where I could not breathe with complete congestion and blocked ears. Then I started taking fluticasone and now I am better. Please please do not use this medication It should not be even produced It is very danger and you can easily get addicted to it"

Otrivin (xylometazoline) "My experience with Otrivin has been good. I have used Otrivin Plus each night (1 puff each nostril) for 10 or more years in conjunction with NozOil as directed by my sleep doctor to help me breathe with my CPAP machine. Every few months I do get irritation in a nostril, so I give that nostril a rest for 4 nights and then start again. My only issue is supply - it’s difficult to find at the moment."
