Retin-A (tretinoin) "I'm Asian and I stay in a tropical country. This product was widely introduced here when I was in my teens and I was quick to use it since it was highly recommended by the big name dermatologists of that time. I had problematic skin back then and it was recommended by my own dermatologist. I was fourteen then. Now, I'm 41 and I'm often told I look younger. Even if I'm a male professional, that still matters a lot! I could still remember temporarily stopping for less than a year cause I'd have spells of temporary severe dry skin and, once, eczema, but I jump on to it once my skin has stabilized. Of course, good skin maintenance does help and seeking professional help if something does not seem ok is best, but I would say this product works. Start while you're young (best if you can start with some professional help!)."

"I heard alot of people trying this for acne & breaking out, so I was apprehensive. I don't have acne anymore...I used to have perioral dermatitus (acne around the mouth) which I got anibiotics for and its now gone, but my problem is aging and damage to my skin for the sun because I used department store serums (Lancome Primordial Intense) outside, which gave me a precancerous mole and a red spot and faintlydark patch on my cheek. After just two nights of use my skin looks noticably better. It is not greasy, it feels more like putting hand sanitiser on your face, like theres alcohol in the gel, it drys quick and can make your skin dry so use like sunflower, rose hip, or a natural non pore clogging oil to clean and moisterise ur face."

"I wanted to go on to share my experience. I started off with 0.025 and 0.05 and my skin did ok. Had some initial flakiness, but moisturizer helped and it eventually improved. My dermatologist upped me to 0.1% and things took a turn for the worse. About two weeks after I began using it, my skin got really red and itchy, and I developed diarrhea which turned bloody. I had to go to the ER, thinking I had something terrible wrong and it turned out that high dosage (0.1%) of Tretinoin was the culprit. Once I got off it, my GI symptoms went away and the redness of skin went away. So proceed with caution. The lower dosage of 0.05% did improve the appearance of my skin."

Retin-A (tretinoin) "I began using Retin A 0.01% approximately 2 months ago. I have dark spots left from what doctors claim is atopic dermatitis coupled with hyper eczemas when I was younger. I have had these marks for over 20 years. I no longer suffer from breakouts however I do have the marks (front and back thighs). I started by specifically treating them spot by spot, rather applying to the entire area. Recently my husband disclosed that he is having a "hard time" actually seeing the marks to apply the cream, they have lightened up but I am not totally clear yet... I am on my second tube. When I complete this one, my intention is to increase to the .5 strength and observe those results. Will advise probably in another 2 months time. What I can say with certainty is that is works, faster for some than others... but it works, consistency is key."

"This stuff is the spawn of Satan. I began using this to reduce minor sun spots and fine wrinkles. This stuff made the amazing skin I had into a housing unit for acne. It literally brings tears to my eyes the damage this has done. If it can be avoided, do not use. I would never recommend medication.... ever."

"I started using this for acne and sun damage. I had acne along my jaw that would not go. Tried everything, but spots were forming and taking weeks to go down and then another 2 would appear and so on!! I had slight peeling the first 2 weeks of using Tretinoin and skin was very dry. But the key is to start very slowly! Twice a week for the first 2 months and then at 3 months I began to use it every night whilst leaving one day a week where I did not use it. For minimum side effects and dodging the ‘purging’ stage you need to build it up slowly, your skin needs to adjust to it and use a small amount. 5 months in and acne had cleared up. The sun damage is taking longer but overall skin is looking smoother and any spots that appear-go within a few days! Crazy expensive though-but worth it!!"

"My doctor prescribed me the Stieva-A cream for my Melasma. The first 3 days I used it like a normal cream and the result was an allergic reaction, burning and rashes around my mouth. After that I refused to use it until I looked further into it and realized I've been using it wrong. My tips: -start off with using it every 3 days or so and increase use slowly -put the smallest amount on the effected areas before going to bed -wash your hands after! -wash it off in the morning and use plenty of gentle moisturiser (I've been using shea butter, later Suskin Sensitive Moisturiser) -stay out of the sun and avoid using any make up, harsh products (even sunscreen) Using it for 6 weeks now the results are fantastic :) My skin tone is more even and I don't get ANY breakouts. My only concern is the long term effect. It can cause birth defects if used while pregnancy, and I don't see myself continuing to use this cream after my sun marks are gone."

"33 y/o male here. I've been using tretinoin 0.05% for just over a month now. I have yet to have any negative side effects I've read about from others; this had me wondering if Walgreens gave me a fake Rx haha. I haven't had any peeling, sensitivity or any type of reaction :: fingers crossed :: That being said, I have been using it every night by itself and then moisturing in the a.m. and putting on Strivectin's clear sunblock everyday before I go out. I'm hoping I won't have any purge as I've gone this long without any negative side effects. I can't help but wonder if the fact I follow a keto diet and take supplements keeps the purge at bay? Perhaps many people have a bad or prolonged purge due to their diet? Try it and see if a change helps since we know sugar induces AGEs (Advanced Glycation End products affecting collage)!"

"I began using this cream a few weeks ago as my dermatologist prescribed it due to my photodamaged skin I use it 2 or 3 times a week and find it fabulous. I don't like the smell though at all. While I have had no dryness or flaking but find my skin extremely sensitive and applying moisturiser often results in a mild stinging sensation. I did find that using an Omorovicza oil was good and did not burn then used a moisturiser. Wondering if others have this issue. On the whole I like the retin A and its results. I only use a cream cleanser as they are the most gentle. I did try a foam one but it also caused my skin to be aggrevated with retin A"

"My doctor prescribed this tretinoin cream for me. I don't use it on a regular basis like I should, but I can tell you that even though I don't use it as often, my skin looks younger. I still have acne and I'm trying to get in the habit of using the cream more often, but my acne has diminished some. Overall, I like the product."

"Iv been using tretinion for about 8 months I found it was great for gently peeling skin and this help with milia and dark spots on face, it definitely helps with fine lines that I have now being 44 years old but I can only use it every other day because my skin really dries out if I use it daily. I recommend you use a good barrier face cream with this so your skin barrier doesn't get burnt or damaged through tretinoin if your using it a lot. I've had wonderful results my skin smoother, I have a lovely glow, I have a much much more even skin tone now. It definitely helped with dark spots and I would say it slightly plumps the skin too but again if you suffer from something called milia this definitely helps clear it up nicely. But if you stop using tretinion for a while all the ageing skin and milia come back so stick with it guys, I don't suffer from acne so only had one painful cyst at the beginning then no more spots! Give it a go!!"
