Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have frequent episodes of diverticulitis. My doctor prescribes a 10-day supply of Bactrim DS. Many times 10 days is not enough to completely clear up the problem so I wind up needing an additional 10 days worth of medicine. I have not had any bad side effects from this drug. I wish someone would create a drug to prevent diverticulitis."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "My doctor has me taking Bactrim DS daily for Diverticulitis as what’s called a prophylactic, or a prevention of inflammation. It helps me very much as I have not had an inflammation in several years. You must take it every day. And of course you must know whether or not you are allergic to any Sulfa medications."

"We all agree, this medication is horrible. I have to take it for reoccurring bouts of Diverticulitis, along with Flagyl. I refuse to take Cipro because it ruins ligaments. I have found some things that help. Powerade Zero is a lifesaver because Bactrim tanks your electrolytes. I buy a 12 pack when I have to take Bactrim. Take this medication with food, and drink plenty of filtered water. Eat sugar Free Yogurt. Chobani Zero is good. Eat a clean diet as much as you can. Take a probiotic 2 hours before or two hours after you take Bactrim. It will do no good taking it at the same time. If you develop yeast (I always do), despite taking a probiotic, you can use caprylic acid gel caps. Make sure you take the probiotics at least a month as Bactrim stays in your system 1-2 weeks. CBD oil helps with the insomnia, nausea, and anxiety it causes. Soda crackers are good for the nausea. Hydrate with Powerade daily! Move your bowels regular. Prunelax helps! Hope this helps! Hang in there!"

"I took sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim together with Flagyl for diverticulitis, had it before, it does the job, not the nicest experience, but most antibiotics have side effects. Thankfully I was able to rest, but had trouble sleeping. Almost done the course - grin and bear it, it is working"

"I took Bactrim for diverticulitis. Within hours of taking my skin began itching between my fingers and vagina. I only took one and by morning I had a severe yeast infection and blisters on my hands between my fingers and in my mouth. This was from one pill .... the yeast infection and blisters went all up my backside. I had a very severe reaction. Took 6 days to get over one pill. I would not recommend this to anyone. I will never take it again."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Have been on Bactrim now for 9 days with the 10th day almost completed, for an intestinal infection. Around day 7, I started feeling achy with a mild fever and chills. I’ve also had some gastrointestinal uneasiness, headaches, and insomnia. Basically the intestinal issue is resolved so Bactrim did it’s job. But others should be aware of the side effects. I have to admit I had not fully informed myself about them. Side effects can be very uncomfortable and I suppose that if they were much worse they even could be dangerous."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I was prescribed Bactrim (Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole) for my suspected diverticulitis and left lower side pain, even though I'm only 29 and haven't had a CT scan yet. However, I plan to ask my doctors for a scan at my upcoming appointment in five days. I haven't experienced any significant side effects from the medication, despite having anxiety. I've noticed that the pain on my lower left side has decreased since starting the medication, and the combination of a low-fiber and liquid diet consisting of broth, soup, and water has made me feel less bloated, reduced the pain, and given me more energy. I haven't experienced any noticeable side effects, but I'm aware that other medications could interact with Bactrim. To avoid being bothered by side effects, I take my dosage in the middle of the night with a small portion of jello or broth, a bite of toast, and water, allowing me to sleep for another five hours. My next dosage is at 4 pm, which is at the end of the day when I'm relaxing."

"I just want to preface by saying: STOP READING THE REVIEWS. The negative ones will scare you and make you apprehensive to take this medication. Here's my experience: An hour after the first dose I felt really flushed and my face was red, but it went away after a couple hours. I took my second dose, and I got flushed again but this time it was worse. I felt like I was on fire. The burning spread to my arms and I was sweating, but didn't have a fever. It was late at night so I did Teladoc and they advised me to stop taking it and try amoxicillin instead. My reaction was very mild. Most people don't really review medications unless they have a bad experience, so take this with a grain of salt. I apparently just couldn't tolerate it, but a lot of people can."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "This drug is absolutely horrid! Bactrim makes me feel like I'm walking around in some drug induced stupor. My tongue is irritated, I'm itchy. This drug should be pulled off the market."
