For Acne "Wanted to give an update on the review I wrote 10 months ago. If you are an adult female with acne involving the jawline, hairline, neck, back, chest or upper arms, there is a great chance it could be hormonal. I had mild to moderate acne that suddenly worsened at the same time I started having irregular periods. It literally went from controllable to a disaster. I started researching and asked my doctor about trying spironolactone. This was almost exactly one year ago. First month consisted of a nasty initial breakout, but following that, I saw gradual improvement and am 100% clear for the first time in my adult life. My life is completely different. I used to hide. I can wear any clothing I want now. I will NEVER give up this medication."

For Hirsutism "My GYN put me on spironolactone to try and clear up my acne and excess body hair. My acne has gotten a little better, and I no longer have hair on my chin. I still have some hair on my abdomen and thighs, but I've only been on spironolactone for six months. So far, I think it's great."

For Acne "I never right reviews but I need to for this drug if there is a woman suffering from hormonal acne and nothing has worked, You need to give this medication a try it has been the only thing that has worked for me. I had horrible hormonal acne on my chin and since taking spirinolactone I don’t break out anymore. My skin is clear. Hope this helps someone"

For Alopecia "As far as I'm concerned, Spironolactone is a miracle drug for female hair loss. It ABSOLUTELY regrows hair in addition to preventing further hair loss. I had a lot of hair loss around my crown from PCOS and after 6 months on spiro, my hair was growing back very thickly."

For Hirsutism "I have been using this medicine for about 1 month my doctor gave it to me for excessive facial hair. Since I have been taking it. I have noticed the hair grows slower and is lighter and not as course as before but be patient it takes a little while to see results and I believe it will get better with continued use. I did not experience ill side effects with it, in fact I also suffer from adult acne & have tried everything I could find to treat and nothing worked, but I have had no new breakouts after a month and I am just thrilled with the results I am getting. I would recommend it to anyone with facial hair problems!"

For Hirsutism "I've been on spironolatone for full facial hair growth with thinning hair on my edges. I take 200 milligrams a day. One hundred in the morning and one in the evening. It did take about three months to work but it significantly reduced the facial hair. I used to shave everyday but now I barely pluck a few hairs on my chin. The excessive sideburns are complete gone and I know longer have to shave and my edges are no longer thinning. They're full and continue to grow. I don't have the excessive peeing but it does makes me a little drowsy. I lost overall body weight but the down size was most of it was muscle mass. I gained curvaceous hips and my breast grew a cup size or two. The only pill that has worked and I've tried everything. Be patient."

For Alopecia "As a young woman I noticed my hair thinning. I was losing up to a hundred strands of hair just in the shower. Then I had my three children and my hair stabilized for awhile. At about 36 I started to lose hair again and my dermatologist prescribed spirolactone. It was only about 50 milligrams daily, but it worked. My hair was still fine, but soft and full. I weaned myself to 25 milligrams and then off, all in about five years. Now I’m 55. A year ago I noticed loss again, but worse. My dermatologist put me on 100 mgs daily. At first I was dehydrated and had terrible night cramps. I increased my water consumption and don’t drink as much in the evening. Now I sleep through the night and I am cramp free. I have noticed a dramatic change and have no concerns about my hair. Right now I take a break every three days, but will soon start to reduce my daily intake. For me this medication is amazing and I hope that everyone has the success I’ve had."

For Alopecia "I had suffered from hair loss for 3 years. I now have been taking spirolactone 50mg per day for 2 weeks and my hair stopped shedding! I tried everything but nothing works like spironolatone. I feel free. I can wash my hair more than twice a month without feeling depressed at all the hair falling out. Also, zero side effects so far."

For Acne "I took spironolactone for 3 years for moderate to severe cystic acne on the lower part of my face. I had suffered from acne to varying degrees for about 12 years and had tried most available treatments, including IBs, oral contraceptives and Roaccutane. Some of these had temporary benefits. With spironolactone I had a bad initial breakout in the 1st month on 100mg, then my skin cleared up almost completely over the next 2 months. I increased to 125mg per day for about 1 year, then lowered to 100mg and only taking it 4 or 5 days per week. I had flawless skin. When I stopped, my acne returned after about 6 months. I have now started again, and my doctor has recommended continuing until menopause. I am 41. I have no serious side effects."

Aldactone (spironolactone) for High Blood Pressure "This medicine treated high-blood pressure, water retention, acne, female/male pattern hair-loss, excessive, unwanted facial hair and is a potassium sparing medicine. It is ideal for sufferers of insulin resistance or pcos. Although it hasn't completely stopped the unwanted hair growth it has been the only thing that has made a significant difference by slowing it down drastically. It has also slowed the hair-loss down significantly in which I am very pleased with."

For Acne "I was prescribed Spironolactone 50 mg to treat acne. Two months later my cystic acne improved but my hair started falling out really bad. I have never had a problem with hair loss before. My doctor reassured me that Spironolactone doesn't cause hair loss and recommended to continue the treatment. I was happy with clearer skin and kept taking the medication hoping that the hair loss will stop but it didn't. After six months of treatment I lost a substantial amount of my hair volume and decided to stop Spironolactone. I didn't have any underlying conditions and haven't had any traumatizing life events that would cause hair loss. Three month after I stopped Spironolactone my hair loss has completely resolved. Half a year later I decided to try Spironolactone again as my acne came back. Surely enough my hair started shedding really bad after one or two weeks of taking this medication. I am very disappointed that this medication did more harm than good."

For Acne "AMAZING medication for hormonal acne! I am in my mid-twenties and began having hormonal acne and very oily skin this past year. My acne was primarily located on my jaw line, chin and far sides of my cheeks. It is completely gone and my complexion is GLOWING."

Aldactone (spironolactone) for High Blood Pressure "I took this medication for four years, all the while becoming less and less interested in sex and unable to achieve an erection. Having gone through 4 cardiologists not a one of them ever informed me that Aldactone is an anti-androgen which blocks muscle and bodily binding of testosterone necessary for it to take effect and also lowers production of testosterone itself. I had to happen upon it on my own. The day I found out is the day I stopped taking it. Giving a male a medicine which renders his testosterone ineffectual may be good for those undergoing a sex change but not for those who are not. There is another potassium sparing drug like Aldactone without the sexual side effects but it is more expensive. "

For Alopecia "My hair started thinning and falling out. The dermatologist prescribed 100 mg of Spironolactone daily. I had problems with high potassium levels so my dosage was decreased to 50 mg daily for a month and now I am back on the 100 mg. I do not see any increased hair growth but it seems to have slowed down my hair loss. I have been on the medicine for 3 months."

Aldactone (spironolactone) for High Blood Pressure "I’ve had high blood pressure since my early forties. When I turned 50, my blood pressure became harder to control. I was on the max dosage of lisinopril, and I tried various others but the best my blood pressure would get is 140/88. I went to a cardiologist and he prescribed aldactone, along with 40mg of lisinopril. My bp has been perfect a 120/70 from then on. It’s been three years since I started it."

Aldactone (spironolactone) for Acne "I've been taking this medicine for about six months for acne, and it has done wonders for me. I saw full results after about 4 months. Other than frequently having to go to the bathroom (it's a diuretic), I've experienced no side effects. My skin is flawless, and all the insecurities I had about my skin--being anxious around the time of my period in anticipation of a breakout, not wanting to leave the house without makeup--are GONE. I've been on Accutane four or five times, and while my skin always did really well for the few months I was on it, sometime afterward I'd begin to get regular breakouts. Aldactone gives me predictably clear skin, I can take it indefinitely, AND it's cheap. If you have hormonal acne, please give this a shot!"

For Hirsutism "I am 25, 5ft4 and weigh 15stone. I have PCOS and do the excess hair growth with all things combined has just been awful. My last resort was Spironolactone. The first week or so it definitely made me dizzy, especially when getting up etc. I’ve been on this tablet for 3 and a half months now and I can 100% see a difference. My once black facial hair is almost blonde now. I am on an 800cal diet and have lost 3 stone since starting this (was 17stone). I believe the weight loss and the medication is helping this. I am really happy to be honest."

For Alopecia "After many yrs of intermittant worrying bouts with hairloss , I noticed it getting worse on wards from 45 yrs to that point where I was lossing 300- 500 hairs at every hair wash!! Very scary and disheartening. Blood work did not explain what was happening with any particular deficiencies, Dr suggested Spiro and I've been on it now for approx 4 mths and so happy with progress so far. Didn't notice much in way of side effects, perhaps slighty unsettled stomach for couple months. I will keep a watch on my kidney function as I know it can be impacted, try to drink extra water. Can now wash hair with only approx 50 strand loss and very little loss in between washing. Not much regrowth as yet, very much hoping it will restart very soon! Hope this helps :)"

For Alopecia "I am 19 years old and have female androgenetic alopecia, at an alarmingly high stage at that. This had a HORRIBLE initial shed but it has stopped shedding and now I have less hair falling out. I don't see any regrowth though and am using minoxidil every other day so maybe if I used it regularly I'd be fine. Minoxidil is causing me to grow lots of facial hair though (5% concentration) and the spironolactone is supposed to fix hirsutism but the minoxidil is more dominating in the facial hair aspect... not giving up though because keeping hair on my head is more important than having a hairy face. I can just wax/thread facial hair."

For Hirsutism "I started taking spirolactone about 10 months ago for PCOS, hirsutism, and to lower my free testosterone, it was at 11. Starting dosage 25mg twice daily for 4 months = free testosterone lower to 8.5. Doctor increase dosage to 50mg twice daily for 6 months = Free testosterone is at 7.9, slightly less facial hair, facial skin is clear and smooth (previously had orange peel skin), slightly less oily skin too, no weight gain. Doctor has increase dosage to 100mg twice a day to continue to lower free testosterone and hopefully be less hairy. Will post update in 6 months."

Aldactone (spironolactone) for Heart Failure "Didn't work for me. Muscle aches, itch and most importantly it dropped my blood pressure too low along with the other medication I am taking..pressure was 87/54 ...normally I am 130/70. I was exhausted, tired, weak and constantly falling asleep. This medication was not for me. Called doctor he told me to stop taking it, and this was at 1/2 pill dosage."

For High Blood Pressure "My wife took this medicine for two days only, just 9 days ago, and we're not sure she's going live another week. She stopped it after the 2nd dose because she got severe stomach pain and low back ache. The last 4 days she has barely had enough strength to get out of bed to use the bathroom. She has a difficult time breathing, is coughing way too much, has diarrhea, no appetite, headache, dry mouth. Her symptoms now look like congestive heart failure. No one should have to go through this with a drug that's supposed to help, not kill you."

For Hirsutism "I just started taking this medication because I have excessive facial and body hair growth. I'm really hopefully after reading a lot of reviews on it. @lola29 anyone looking to help with the coverage of their dark patches on their face: rub orange/red concealer (laGirl has a great/cheap one) over your dark patches with a beauty blender or sponge. This will look strange and dark but it cancels out the dark patches in your skin. Then cover the orange concealer with a full coverage concealer or foundation (dermacol is amazing!) ... make sure to set it with a powder. Seriously learned this trick from drag queens and it makes me feel 100x more comfortable while dealing with this facial hair. I hope that helps someone!!!"

For Alopecia "I have hair loss because of high DHEAs and testosterone Girls out there spiro is the best! I was all about natural stuff and and using herbs to lower my testosterone and DHEAs but as soon as they were working a lil bit I'd have some stressful episodes happening during my days and cortisol would push from the other side to higher my dhea again.I tried for 1 whole year and realized that nope this doesn't work. I need to be relaxed with this issue, get my life together and not be distracted with this. So I started using Spiro (50mg/day) and damn girl it worked like crazy fast like from the first week of using it! My average hair lose is about 20 hairs a day now. Its better than ever! having plan to take it for a year. Also NO side effects at all. I wish this helps if u have doubts trying it! good luck ladies."

For Acne "I started getting hormonal acne my freshman year of college. Like many others have mentioned in the reviews, I tried just about everything to clear it up. By everything I mean I completely changed my lifestyle. Started exercising, cut out fast food, went dairy free, sugar free, gluten free, took doxycycline, got on birth control, and I was still getting these big cysts on my face that would scar. It completely destroyed my confidence, at times I didn’t even want to leave the house because I was so embarrassed. Went to a new doctor and they put me on 50mg of spironolactone. First 2 months my acne got worse. But by the 3rd month my skin was completely clear. I’ve been on it for a year next month, and I haven’t had a single cystic pimple since the 3rd month. It’s also helped my hair so much. I’ve had no side effects by size and an increase in boob size. For anyone that has hormonal acne I understand how you feel and know how distressing it is"
