For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "After suddenly developing abdominal pain and infrequent BMs 4 years ago without consistent relief from diet changes, or OTC products, Or Amitiza and Linzess, Im trying this (and one other which is less effective). This “worked” initially with soft and loose stool, lots of gas, cramping. Added my OTC again but ineffective. Tried the other sample drug, even less effective Back on Motegrity, same experience and have concluded its exacerbating neck, & back pain to intolerable level, possible wrist and ankle pain, fatigue and the blues. Totally interfering with sleep. The only temporary relief I get is swimming or exercising."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I was originally given Motegrity without trying the others because I had been following all the lifestyle advice typically given to start off. I had printouts of my daily meals, water consumption, fiber intake, macros. I was also already on a modified diet to to allergens. (I like data.) And it was clear movement for water like linzess wasn’t gonna do it. The first two months, I had to take it with Miralax, 1000 mg of magnesium, and senna at 8.6mg? It took all four to go. I went every day but it was explosive and miserable. So she reduced it down to 1mg and now things are manageable (every two days ish), but I’m constantly boiling. Y’all I’m not at menopause age yet. I shouldn’t be sweating like this. But I’ve been in undershirts in 50 degree weather and I sweat enough to completely stink in a few hours. I also regained all the sudden weight I lost prior to Motegrity in about two months (50 lbs, about 1/4 of my body). Im also queasy all the time."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "My daughter has autism and has had constipation all her life. She has always been on medication for her autism. Motegrity has her making a complete bowel movements but her behavior has become erratic. She is anxious and is having compulsive behaviors. I'm going to stop motegrity for a few days and see how she acts. If her behavior improves I know it's the motegrity. A shame because it is helping her. I'm only giving her 1mg."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have been on Motegrity for over a year and it worked great for awhile and lately I have had problems with feeling jittery anxious and depressed. Feeling jittery and anxious is the worse. I have gastroparesis and also on Famotidine Promethazine Lansoprazole and Motillium so it may be a combination or the Motegrity"

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Worked for 3 days and then back to constipation. Also seemed to not mix well with my anti-seizure drugs. My previous seizure drug had caused a particular type of seizure and depression. I haven’t had those problems since I switched off that drug but experienced both in the past week so I am going to discontinue use."

"It has allowed me to feel hungry on a daily basis—I never thought that would be possible before. It also reduced the frequency and duration of my nausea. Personally, I've only thrown up once as a result of my gastroparesis, so I can't speak on any change there. It has some recurring adverse effects for me, such as bloating and abdominal pain. I also had dizziness, headaches, fatigue, loose stools, and severe abdominal pain in the first 1-2 weeks of taking it. Also, I've only needed a 0.5 mg dose so far; I cut the 1 mg pills in half."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I was on Linzess for several months. It completely took away the abdominal pain and for several weeks I had severe diarrhea. Then, it settled down and things seemed to improve but a month later, I was having maybe 1 bowel movement a month. I switched to motegrity, it's been 2 weeks of misery. Headaches everyday, abdominal pain, and bowel movements are more frequent but painful. I'm so disappointed. I will stick it out for awhile longer and hope it improves."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I wanted to share my story as I just took my first dose of this medication tonight. I'm crossing my fingers because nothing else has been effective, and I am currently down to 107 pounds at a height of 5'5". During the lockdown, I was exposed to toxins in a home I had recently moved into. After four months of being there, I experienced a wide range of symptoms, including severe Gastric Emptying Delay and dysfunction in my colon. Whenever I eat, I suffer from severe consequences. At the moment, I'm on my third round of Xifaxan, which costs $2500 for each two-week treatment, and my gastroenterologist suspects it might be Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) as well. Xifaxan helps with reducing inflammation and bloating, but unfortunately, my colon isn't improving. Currently, the only thing I am able to eat without major issues is eggs, and even then, I have to use a daily enema. I also have Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EOE) and have undergone several surgeries involving scopes, biopsies of the esophageal area, and laparoscopic exploratory surgery. As I enter my third year with these conditions, they are getting worse."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have Gastroparesis and have been taking Motegrity for two months now. I'm not really sure how it's supposed to work, I thought it would help relieve constipation and make it easier to go to the bathroom. I am suffering for up to 4 days not being able to have a bowel movement. My doctor thinks that I might have a lot of toxicity in my stomach and I have to take a breathing test. I also suffer from headaches and did not realize until I read all the posts that headaches are common with this."

"It worked with respect to speeding up motility, which is what was needed (it was used off-label with me) and that worked well. I'd go about 16 hours after taking it. I ate some corn to see how long it would take since it doesn't digest completely, and it came out the next morning (in a test of passing small rings, I still had some in me 5 days later when 3 is considered the longest time for normal, so this was a massive improvement). The problem was then for the next 3 hours I went, including finally having diarrhea from close enough to my stomach I could feel the acid at the 'other end'. I was taking 2mg, so am thinking perhaps 1mg would be better. I am currently waiting to get financial aid to keep taking it, so I only had a 2-week trial. The one thing that concerns me is I am thinking I might be one of the people who suffer from depression when taking this, as the second week I struggled emotionally, which is not normal for me. Once I get financial aid, I'll see what 1mg does."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I'm on day 3 and so far it works great. Linzess and Trulance worked a week and stopped, so the jury is out for the long term. The only side effects I have experienced are mild dizziness and back pain. And one strange one, which may be the cause of the loss of appetite. Things that should not taste salty do. That started today. Grapes, French toast so far. I hope that goes away with time."
