For Fibromyalgia "Every time I take it I feel like the me before Fibro. I was doagnosed 3 years ago. I have had prednisone maybe 5 times now but only for a few week my primary doctor wont give it to me long term to may risks. So in Dec. When I see my RA dr I am asking for it long term. The benifits out weight the benefits. I have three kids and a "possible" early death and bad side effect are minor compared to my kids not having a full functioning mommy now. They are to little for me to be bed ridden or a having these horrible flares and missing their T ball games. I want them to have good memories of me not memories of me being sick."

For Eczema "I understand the severe side effects. However, as one who has suffered from severe asthma and eczema, as well as intolerable skin itching in general, my entire life, I look at prednisone as a miracle drug. It allows me to breathe, stops the skin itching, and clears my skin up quickly. If there is another drug that will accomplish these goals, I would definitely give it a try. I am 47 years old, and all of my issues were considered "childhood illnesses" that would eventually disappear. Unfortunately they never did. At my age I've learned to greet the doctor with "yes, I understand the side effects. In my case, the benefits outweigh the risks. If there is a new wonderdrug I should know about, let's give it a go!""

For Inflammatory Conditions "Suffering from severe lower back pain for more than a month I finally went to the doctor convinced I would be told there was nothing to be done but to soldier through it. Instead I was prescribed a week-long course of prednisone. Results started within hours. I was almost pain-free the next day. By day three other ailments I had just been living with, such as stiff knees and shoulder pain, were also gone. It's a wonder drug. But for the long term side effects I'd stay on it indefinitely if I could."

For Gouty Arthritis "Prednisone has been a miracle for me. I have stage 4 Polycystic Kidney Disease, and my uric acid levels are really high. I suffer from chronic, crippling gout in my feet, ankles, and knees. It never goes away. I've started Uloric but the gout hasn't subsided. It was to the point that my job was in jeopardy. The only thing I could take for the pain was Tylenol. My Nephrologist prescribed Prednisone, and after 1 day all gout pain had subsided. Blessed relief! After a week, the edema in my feet had disappeared. My side effects include acne, increased appetite, constipation and some insomnia, but I'll take all of it if it means no more gout pain."

For Inflammatory Conditions "Low back pain radiating down legs and shoulder pain. I have been in severe pain since injuring my back in 2007. I worked in construction and have injured my lower back several times. MRI revealed bulging disc from L1 to L5 and shoulder pain is from years of heavy work. I have been going to pain clinics since 2008 and although I take pain medication it does little to relieve the pain. My PCP prescribed Prednisone tablets for 20 days along with a shot to start with. Within three days my pain had decreased and within a week I was almost pain free. For the first time in years I spent a week without pain medicine. I took the last of the prednisone last week and the pain in my lower back and shoulder returned yesterday and by this morning I am using a walker again."

For Inflammatory Conditions "I've been dealing with nagging neck and shoulder pain for almost 2 months now. Stemming from a hard fall on ice, resulting in a severe concussion, back sprain, and whiplash. Last week when I was trying to stretch my neck to relieve the nagging ache. Pulling my head to the right I heard a loud pop and a sudden release. And then, oh boy, not 30 seconds later, extreme pain. Unbearable pain. Referring down my arm to my middle fingers. Having had four herniated lumbar discs and two surgeries as a result, I immediately thought I'd herniated or torn a disc. As the painkillers, muscle relaxants, and physio did not help. My doctor put me on a 5 day steroid taper. I was skeptic. But it started working within 24 hours. This is literally saving my life."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2012. Sept 2013 was the last time I wore a pair heels & have been living with severe pains throughout my entire body. I had seen 5 different doctors, pres. Methotrexate & HCQS, but I would still be in so much pain, crying had become a normal part of my day. I was advised to see a sixth doctor (which I was not anxious to do) who was the only person to prescribe prednisolone. The very first day(2014/06/04), I was given IV Hydrocorticoid and 30mg Prednisone. Before the day ended, I was feeling so much better. To date, I'm on 20mg and Sulfasalazine and I'm back at work, run up & down stairs and so much happier to be like my old self. I do worry about the side effects since I already gained weight but I am so much better."

I was virtually unable to walk due to the pain at the start then the pain was completely gone by second morning. It returns, but less frequently than injections."

For Sinusitis "I had surgery over a decade ago consisting of repairing my deviated septum and inferior turbinate reduction which completely cured my sinusitis...(for 11 years). Unfortunately, I just got the worst sinusitis infection probably ever and the first one since that surgery. The infection spread to my eye sockets and after 3 antibiotics aside from my eye infection being under control, I was still sick and up all night several nights coughing. I was put on Prednisone 5 days ago and I'm noticing a huge improvement. I'm not coughing all night. I have energy again, and have been able to work out for the first time in ten weeks. I'm keto so I'm not sure if my blood sugar has jumped, but I also take two tbsp of ACV diluted in 8 tbsp of water twice a day which you can look up empirical study results on as it relates to diabetes prevention. My dose of prednisone is 3 days of 10mg 4X, 3 days 10mg 3X, 3 days of 10mg 2X, 3 days of 10mg 1 dose. I hope this information helps. I don't really detect any side effects."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Maybe I did not read down far enough but there seemed to be little "help" offered. Here is what I have: Epsom salt baths. ES is full of magnesium and magnesium works against inflammation. Cabbage has 5 major anti-inflammatory compounds. Eat all the vinegar based coleslaw you want! Fat releases a group of highly inflammatory compounds known as cykotines. Lose fat and you greatly reduce their effects. Drink lots of water. Tumeric has terrific anti-inflammatory compounds and rheumatologists acknowledge this. Red meat, fried foods, processed foods and dairy will definitely NOT help. The stomach can cause inflammation. Use a probiotic. You must get rid of negative influences like people who are constantly bringing up the negative and saying things to increase worry. When you have someone whose entire conversation is doom and gloom ... they need to go!"

For Gouty Arthritis "I started writing a novel based off my experiences with gout and the different medications I took for them, and ran out of room. So here is the short version. I hate Indomethacin and colchicine with a passion. So much so, this last attack had me crawling on my hands and knees, and I refused to take the stuff. I lasted a month and Today I went in. By chance my Doctor was out ill. The new Doctor looked at it and prescribed prednisone and started me on allopurinol. I have heard of prednisone before and was eager to try it. I'm sticking with the new doctor. This drug is amazing. I dont believe in miracle drugs, but this is damn close. After 8 hours of taking my first dose, 80-90 percent of the pain is gone. Screw Indomethacin!!!!!!!!!!"

For COPD "I have COPD. Experienced an exacerbation of the condition one evening. Went to ER. Coughing, shortness of breath and difficult breathing. I was given a Nebulizer treatment with the medication Albuterol Sulfate in ER and sent home with a Nebulizer machine to do the breathing treatment 2 x daily, AM and PM. Also, given 2 Prednisone before leaving ER with prescription for 14 tabs taken at various intervals until gone. I really felt great, full of energy, but as down to last of the medicine, feeling very achy all over, rather flu like. I know it is going off the Prednisone, as have taken it before some time ago, and you just kind of "crash" when you stop."

For Inflammatory Conditions "I have stenosis of the spine at the L4, which has caused pain, leg weakness and other problems. In addition I developed what seemed to be bursitis of the right hip. I took 12 days of Prenisone recently, starting with 4 days of 2 tablets, 4 of 1 tablet, and 4 of 1/2 tablet; the results astonished me. During the first few days I felt like I was 60 years younger! This was my fist experience with the drug, and I am well aware of its dangers. But it did mostly eliminate my pain, even now, a couple of weeks after ending my course of treatment. I'd say I am 90% better after doing this round of Prednisone."

For Fibromyalgia "Same as many here. Put on 12 day prednisone pack for an allergic rash. 18 years with fibromyalgia and nothing has really helped. After the first day my fibro pain was gone! and during the 12 days I was on it I lost 8 pounds (same diet and same activity level), how can that be? of course all you hear it how bad it is. Tears that there is something that can take away this every day unrelenting pain and I can't have it!"

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "This medication is slowly but surely bringing me back to life. I've been going through a flare for about 5 months, with no resolve. Even tried depo medrol- intramusclelar shot. Which did nothing. I see reviews of people advising caution and saying you should NEVER take this drug. But what do you do if you're a 29yr old mom of 3 young children? Who works full time? Who can barely get out of bed? I will happily take moon face, happily meal plan to control weight gain, happily lose a little sleep. I will happily deal with these things in order to STAND without falling over, rock my baby to sleep without agonizing shoulder pain, make my children dinner and work! For me the benefits outweigh the risks! Do what is right for you!"

For Sinusitis "I have had too many sinus ops. Consequently my sinuses are apparently wrecked. I live with chronic sinus issues. But now and then that chronic sinusitis results in extreme discomfort, brain fog etc. So a couple of times each year I have to go on the Prednisolone. 2x 25 mg daily then tapering. I’m fully aware that this type of drug is not good for one’s system. Apart from that the side-effect I really notice is that it wrecks my sleep. Apparently no matter what time of day one takes this drug, it stays in the system. But it works for me. The yellow gunk starts to clear out of my sinuses within a day, and I then start to feel normal and comfortable again. Best thing ever for me."

I can breathe, taking in deep breaths. I can sleep all night without choking. I can be social with our coughing so much and so hard that I urinate myself. It is a godsend."

For Allergic Reactions "I had an allergic reaction to hair dye. At first the doctors prescribed antihistamines, calamine lotion, hydrocortisone cream etc but nothing worked. I was then prescribed prednisolone 5mg 6 x per day, I also used aloe vera gel and after 2 days I can safely say I am on the mend. I wouldn't wish this severe itching, red, angry burning swollen lumps on anyone. But this is working for me. I hope this helps your concerns with the same problem."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I developed RA after my appendix burst 7 years ago. Out of the 4 Rheumatologists I have had, none have seen a case as aggressive as mine. Within 2 years I was completely bedridden and under the care of others. While the side effects are horrible (no sleep, infections, hair falling out, weight gain and moon face), I continue to ask for it in high doses. I don't expect to live much longer, but I would rather live where my pain is manageable with pain meds than in the fetal position curled up in my bed crying 24/7. This disease is the worst."

For Inflammatory Conditions "My girlfriend just finished prednisone for hand inflammation. Today she woke to severe body aches. Tears in her eyes. We tried benedryl but little help. I gave her coconut water we got from Whole Foods last week. She had immediate relief. Not sure if it was the water. She is still having the pains in her joints, especially knees, and muscles. Then pain is worse after she stands. So many posts here about the problem. I hope this post offers someone else a chance at a possible solution. The coconut water has 30o mg of potassium. It also has calcium, sodium, and magnesium."
