Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Bipolar Disorder "I have been on Zyprexa for about six months. It takes a long time to work (about five months), but when it does you feel much better. I had to struggle with suicidal thoughts for several months before it started working. You HAVE to take this if you are bipolar. Do NOT stop taking it, and have hope. If you are down or up and are reading this then you have to remember suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary mood. I know the struggle, and Zyprexa will help if you keep taking it."

For Insomnia "This drug ruined my life. I took a low dose for mild insomnia and anxiety, and after a while it turned out I can't stop taking it. I have tried tapering very slowly over many months, but it is a nightmare. I am now taking half the original dose, and insomnia and anxiety and heart palpitations and brain fog are through the roof. It's not temporary withdrawal, I've been at this dose for a year now. I'm much much much worse off than before I started taking this stuff. AVOID!"

For Major Depressive Disorder "This olanzapine is the worst drug ever made. Makes you lose all your emotion and decreases your IQ. Increases anxiety and depression and increases restlessness that does not go away after going off the drug. Completely messes up your GI system with terrible constipation, zero energy, inability to cry, decreases communication and you lose the ability to have any type of sex life. Big pharma should be ashamed to have this available. I would give it a zero if I could."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Bipolar Disorder "I was diagnosed with bipolar manic depressive , acute anxiety, depression, ocd , borderline personality, and post traumatic stress syndrome, when I was 21... postpartum depression triggered something, I was constantly agitated and angry, and sad, .I would wake up angry, and cry allll day...my Dr prescribed me 20 mg zyprexa and I swear to you I was terrified, that it would take 4 to 6 weeks to really work (I didn't have 4 to 6 weeks to wait , I felt...) I was nearly over the edge completely, constantly thinking suicide, I took my first dose of zyprexa and the very next morning I woke up wonderful!!! I still get upset , but not like before, this medicine was truly a miracle for me"

For Depression "I have been on many different anti depressants for depression and for insomnia/PTSD. So I started on Prozac 20mg a day. I had relatively no side effects! I started sleeping a bit better and wasn't so unhappy. But I still wasn't feeling myself. So, I read up on add-on type products and found olanzapine as a great combo with Prozac. I got that prescribed but sat on it for a while because I also read all the horrible side effects and got scared. But after a month still not feeling myself, I decided to try a very small dose.(I read you could split the pill safely),that way it would be easier to get off of it. So, I cut a 5mg into eight pieces... so .625 mg - a couple hours before bed. I slept better than I had in years! I've been taking it for about 2 weeks. I again, lucky, have had zero side effects. I feel AMAZINGLY happy!! I am going to stay on the super low dose. I hope this helps someone, maybe you can ask your MD about taking a smaller dose to get the good effects and not the bad ones."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Schizophrenia "I take 10 mg of zyprexa at night and it makes me feel like it I've been chemically lobotomized. Not to mention the irritability And being tired all the time. This medication made me sleep for 10 whole hours and I still feel sleepy after waking up. Also my motor skills have been cut in half, I keep stumbling over stuff like I'm drunk and having blurred vision all day. This medication is a mental handicap in a bottle. How in the world does this help out with schizophrenia and depression?? I would not recommend this medication to anybody. Eli Lilly should be ashamed of themselves."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Bipolar Disorder "Had a break down at age 15 and eventually got on Zyprexa. Like everybody else said I gained about 30-40 pounds, could be very sleepy sometimes, but it completely stopped the voices I was hearing for the past 8 months. It gave me my life back. Just kinda woke up feeling normal after being on the medicine for a few days. It was amazing. Was on 10mg at the highest and worked all the way down to 2.5mg over the next year. Had a prayer service at my church (Doctor was ok with us taking a trial run off medicines since I had been doing well on a low dose for the past few months) and now have been off meds and completely fine for over 10 years now. Very thankful. "

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Insomnia "It's Definetely was a love/hate relationship with Zyprexa. I have tried virtually every sleep drug available, and it was one of the best because it not only put me to sleep, but it also KEPT me asleep for 8 hours. Started at 2.5mg, then 5mg, & eventually 7.5. It did take a long time to kick in though, so I had to take it 2 hours before bedtime. But like everybody who takes this, I gained weight. But I found the 1 way you can actually lose weight on this drug, which is to combine exercise with Atkins diet (low carb). Zyprexa gives you metabolic syndrome. You no longer burn carbs, which means all carbs you eat becomes body fat, which is why you become fat on this stuff (so you have to stop eating carbs). I got off this drug after 1 year."

For Schizoaffective Disorder "I never considered myself a paranoid schizophrenic. It wasn't until my mid-20s that I got diagnosed with bipolar disorder and severe depression. I have tried so many drugs, and I always quit them because they never worked for me. I was using methamphetamines, and it really changed my brain chemistry. It made me into someone I didn't recognize. It wasn't until I received this medication (after many trial and error doctor appointments) that I began to love life again. I have never felt more like myself. Calm, happy, and motivated to do life. This is a miracle drug if you have severe anxiety and especially sleep problems. I take 15mg at nighttime. This medicine nearly saved my life and my sanity."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Bipolar Disorder "Stay away from Zyprexa. I had a massive weight gain, diabetes cholestrol problems, significantly makes your brain dull unable to think properly , have no emotions, anxiety. Sleep a lot. I think it destroys your brain chemistry. Unable to taper off as the withdrawals extreme."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Insomnia "I used Zyprexa (2.5mg) at night for insomnia caused by anxiety and obsessive thoughts. It is the only thing that helped me sleep that is not addictive and actually worked. It also helped my appetite because when I don't sleep well I don't feel like eating much either. This medication helped with that also. Unfortunately I cannot use it often because it causes my blood sugar to shoot up sky high and I don't like the risk of tardive dyskinesia. I only take a very small dose when I haven't slept in awhile. "

For Agitation "Olanzapine has been really helpful for both justifiable and unjustifiable anger, irritation, anxiety. I've tried nearly every available drug for depression, anxiety, etc, but this one is the best in terms of benefit/side effects ratio. Helps moderately for insomnia, but best for when you are having difficulty controlling your anger... just seems to stop you from boiling over. Also helps reduce the fruitless rumination that plagues us over-analyseres."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Depression "A doctor said I had bipolar and put me on Zyprexa and Lexapro. It was a nightmare, I told my doctor it made my depression worse and that I developed restless leg syndrome while on it. The doctor completely ignored me. After months of this horrible nightmare, I switched doctor's and was told I am NOT bipolar, but suffer from depression. I was tapered off Zyprexa and now I feel 100% better. Thankful"

For Depression "Hi am from Kenya that is in East Africa..I was diagnosed with depression by my doctor and put on deprex 10mg which is also a brand name for olanzapine. I took it for about 28 days, which went well, I got good sleep but after that it was a nightmare. I was getting brain fog. I tried to quit it but the withdrawals were crazy. I couldn't sleep at night, restlessness was another issue. So I self lowered to 5mg. I am not having a normal sleep, walking up a couple of times at night. Last night I took 2.5mg...am really trying to get off this garbage by tapering coz the withdrawal is unbareable ... DON'T TAKE THIS DRUG IF U LOVE URSELF N UR LIFE"

For Agitation "Not sure what to think of this drug. It's really helped my wife's anxiety and panic episodes. And I completely understand how this is prescribed for insomnia. She sleeps all the time, loves napping, hard out-cold sleep. But she has gained a ton of weight. Obsessed with food all the time. Fantasizes about it and texts me about it. We go out to eat and on date nights all the time now. But she's gone from 115lbs to now well over 200. Everyone comments on how much more relaxed and happy she is. But her life is about kicking back, Netflix and being a total couch potato. She feels it's just what she needs. She gave away all of her old clothes and has no plan on losing. But I feel she's going to get much larger. I truthfully have no qualms with her being fat, it's simply the dramatic change came out of left field with this medication. Never envisioned being married to a 300lb woman. Be warned, it's no joke. She's on 15mg, btw."

For Insomnia "I was put on this in conjunction with Prozac and Ativan. I took this drug for a month and all it did was increase my appetite. I started out at 5mg then increased to 10 and I felt drugged. My depression worsened and I started having anxiety and panic attacks. I’m now at 2.5 mg. My doctor used this as a sleeping pill which only worked moderately. Use this pill with caution. If you aren’t bipolar or have a severe mental illness then stay away from this drug."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Depression "I took Klonopin and Paxil for 15 years to treat my anxiety disorder. I had to detox from the Klonopin this past spring. I got off the Klonopin and switched my Paxil to Lexapro (sex side effect issue). I am also a recovering alcoholic. My doctor did not want me on Benzo's anymore (says it increased alcohol cravings). I stayed on Lexapro only for 9 months, but my anxiety came back strong on just the Lexapro alone. I almost resorted to taking Xanax before I switched doctors. My new doc gave Zyprexa a chance. I am on my 7th day and I haven't felt this "normal" in 5 years. I take 5mgs at night and it has ended the "chatter" in my head, and removed my anxiety. Great medicine so far."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Depression "Was on Zyprexa from Mar 2015 till Aug 2015. At first it seemed like it was mellowing me out a bit, and I could sleep through the whole night, which was an improvement. After a few months I noticed my depression was getting much worse. Came off the drug cold turkey, and went through one of the most serious withdrawals one could face. Depression, severe anxiety, PTSD, night terrors took over. To this day Apr 2016, I have still not returned to the way I was before I started taking this horrible drug. Depression and anxiety are still bad, not as bad as 6 mos ago, but still worse than when I first started taking it. I'm convinced this drug can cause permanent brain damage."

For Depression "Olanzapine saved my life.....wait. just kidding. I hate this drug. It stole my personality and way of feeling myself. After withdrawing I have abnormal headaches , no motivation and depressed to some extent. Thankfully I don't have insomnia but I have realised I am sleeping lighter than before. This is poison. Don't take it."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Depression "I have taken Zyprexa 2.5 with Zoloft for years and couldn't function without this combination. It was prescribed because the Zoloft just didn't take care of the insomnia and mood swings. Zyprexa 2.5 has been a God-send."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "This medication saved my life, after years of closet OCD, and anxiety I was suicidal an couldn't take one more day. They started me at 5 mg an it's never been upped, my OCD is non existent an I finally feel happy and comfortable in my own skin!!! I smile!!! No weight gain (but I am gluten free and an avid walker) I still have occasional panic attacks I take xanax for, but this med has made them minimal. It has helped my head to toe pain from depression as well. I get up at 6 am everyday and not sleeping all day like some have said, I work a full time job an take care of kids with no side effects at 5 mg."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Schizophrenia "This drug saved my life, I had been on almost all atypical meds with no luck. Now I have been on 40mg of zyprexa for 10 years with no relapses, and have even managed to hold down a job. I gained 20 pounds and an now a type 2 diabetic, but it was worth it. My family and friends noticed rapid improvements within a week of starting zyprexa. A little hint, when starting zyprexa, ask your dr to prescribe benztopine, it prevents many of the negative side effects of zyprexa. I hope this review helps some one :-)"

For Bipolar Disorder "I remember the day after my first pill: so fatigued and nauseous that I left dance early. My appetite increased and I gained 10 pounds in two weeks. But my psychosis and mania were GONE immediately. I went off the med 7 months later because my parents thought it was making me ditzy, but things got really bad, so I started taking it again. I gained more weight, but I was sleeping again and I felt so much better. Two years later and I’m back to the weight I was before, normal appetite, not ditzy, sleeping through the night, no psychosis, no mania. I’d say the munchies went away in 4 months, but idk it’s been a while. I think the only side effect I have now is drowsiness, but I take it at night, so it doesn’t matter. Zyprexa is a crucial drug for my wellbeing. It works right away."
