For Depression "I took this for a while at the recommendation of my psychiatrist. I have the double mthfr mutation. It did nothing for me and is prohibitively expensive. I’m not sure if I buy into their mthfr serotonin theory, but it seems to work for some. For me, I would get these weird sensations in my hands and feet, almost like they were heavier or more sensitive, and I felt like my sleep was less restful (even I got 8 hours consistently) because I was always tired. It made me feel off as well, but I assume that is just depression medication in general."

For Depression "I have had partial response to my antidepressant. I have had a hard time finding one as my chemistry responds unfavorably to many drugs. Deplin was advised by my Doctor who has actually participated in clinical trials. She had seen no adverse effects and thought it would work great for me. On 3rd day I felt like my old self for first time in 1 year. Unfortunately, that night I had auditory hallucinations... first time in my life... and a very restless night. Went off and slept okay. Tried just doing folic acid and Vitamin B6 and had the same response, only worse. Didn't sleep the whole night. Both my Psychiatrist and Psychologist say I am the only person who they have ever seen have a negative reaction. Like I said, I felt great. Good luck."

For Depression "MUST take Deplin and not a generic and definitely not over the counter folic acid or folate! These can make things worse! My C spinal fluid showed that I have a less prominent type of folate abnormality. Wasn't detected in a gene swab test. Anyway, just started taking 15mg as an Anti-depressant add-on. Made my depression & anxiety worse!!! I would stop taking it, but my doc has me taking a lower dose as she recognizes that Deplin can cause a worsening of symptoms in certain folks. It just needs to be started low and gradually increased. So, please start with a low dose if it makes you MORE anxious/depressed at 15mg. Too early to say it helps, but the lower dose is needed, to start, for some. And it may take many months to work--for some!"

For Folate Deficiency "After a suprise DNA test done by my Primary Care Doctor I recieved a call from the distribitor of this so called Vitamin and the caller tried to pressure me into auto shipments of prescription before I ever received my DNA results my Doctor. My Doctor had shared my DNA results with the makers of Deplin before sharing them with me. Deplin 15 caused extreme bloating and pain twice resulting in cracked ribs, sternum etc. I now suffer from shallow breathing and have a lump in my chest where my sternum bone broke with damage to my rib cage and struggle to breath deeply though my lungs are clear. My Ox levels have dropped my 5 % over the past year and I was fired by my Doctor that caused this when I refused to keep taking it. Kick backs?"

For Depression "I've been on Deplin for 20 days now, along with Zoloft. I had great success with Cymbalta, but it messed badly with my blood pressure (going from 112/65 to 175/100) so I had to go off it. I was put on Zoloft as a stop gap, but have tried it in the past without much success, as with all the others. They say it can take 4-6 weeks before Deplin has its full effect. I'm still hopeful, but I do so wish I'd seen the overnight change like others. "

For Folate Deficiency "I started taking klonopin after several years of depression, 2 bouts of major depression, and Tension myositis syndrome (TMS). It helped the TMS a great deal but after about a year symptoms of major depression and anxiety returned. The Psychiatrist wanted to prescribe more klonopin and when I declined that, she recommended Deplin. Deplin has helped. I now am able to wake up in the morning and speed of thought is almost normal. I still have mood instability but symptoms have decreased. I also have been able to significantly reduce use of klonopin and hope to be off it completely as Deplin therapy continues."

For Depression "I am hearted by the 6 reviews. I have just started on Deplin. I have been on Remeron for two years. I cannot tolerate serotonin type medicines such as Prozac, Lexapro. Remeron worked beautifully at first but effects have slowly worn off and my anxiety and mild depression returned. I pray Deplin will work for me and I can regain my enthusiasm and joy in life. I am happy for those of you who have been helped. Wish me luck."

For Depression "I am taking 225 mg of Lamictal for depression. The Dr. wanted me to try this along with the Lamictal. I took it once, at bedtime and woke up with the worst headache I've had in my entire life, and it lasted all day. Also had very loud ringing in my ears which lasted all day. Not good. Needless to say, I did not take it again, so I cannot comment on its effectiveness."

For Depression "I have a genetic mutation which lowers my body's ability to convert folic acid into its active form, but had never been prescribed Deplin for my bouts with depression and lifelong insomnia. This spring, my mood started to decline and my sleep was worse. At one point, I was taking three medications for sleep. I told my new psychiatrist about my old genetic test results regarding folic acid, and he thought I should try 15 mg of Deplin. Within two weeks, my sleep improved dramatically - I was able to discontinue a sleeping medication, and within 3-4 weeks, my mood also became much more stable and consistent. I've now been taking Deplin for almost six months and have been able to discontinue another sleep medication (I still take one for sleep). Although I still get short bouts of lower moods, they are nothing compared to what they were prior to Deplin. I tried at least five add-on antidepressants prior to Deplin with no results. I had no side effects, and it's very easy to take - a real lifesaver!"

"I finished the 6 day trial, and I must say I felt so good on the last 2-3 days on Deplin. I didn't experience the crazy lows I had in the last few months. I don't truly have depression, more like bipolar 2, and on no medications. I love my emotions, and want to work with them, so my naturopath suggested we try Deplin. I will be seeing her again next week, and I will ask her to continue it."

For Folate Deficiency "I am 66 years old and have suffered from ADD, depression, brain fog, fatigue, extreme anxiety all my life. 30 years ago I was put on Dextroamphetamine 3-4 times a day, and it was a miracle. I came to life, both physically and especially mentally and I slept wonderful. Now that drug has little to no effect on me. My doctor, after doing a gen test on me, says I have a gene mutation and prescribed Deplin for me. At first I felt nothing, now 2 months later, I feel a difference. Not a huge difference."

For Depression "If you are taking Deplin because of the MFTHR genetic abnormality, you were misled by your doctor(s). This genetic test is being pushed by the pysch field even though it has not been proven. Look up the studies on MFTHR and you will soon learn that most of what you read about are myths. That being said Deplin does have its benefits. "

For Depression "For the past several years I have been trying to find the right balance to deal with the anxiety and depression of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I have been on Citalopram for the depression and that seems to work well. It has been hard to find an antipsychotic that works and currently I'm on Latuda. I'm also on a mood stabilizer Lamictal. My Dr added Deplin. Long story I wound up without my Latuda and Deplin for about 6 weeks. In 6 weeks I was off the charts on the ups and my old patterns were popping up. Not good. I went back on the Latuda and began evening out but still had too much up. Now I've been back on the Deplin for a week and I feel completely numb. Trouble sleeping at the right times, trouble being awake or at least alert at the right times."

For Depression "I took Deplin during a former depressive episode but in a much smaller dose. I cannot say if it helped with the effects of depression. During this episode my doctor recommended tailgating 15 mg. I was taking Deplin for 3 months. I was having unbearable anxiety and began looking carefully at the side effects of my meds. Deplin can cause severe anxiety along with other negative side effects. There is an article online called ‘ Anxiety Nutrition Solutions’ by Trudy Scott with Dr. Benjamin Lynch. He is a major supporter of methyl folate. He talks in the article about the different side effects patients can experience on Deplin, severe anxiety among them. If you’re taking Deplin and are feeling anxiety, please read."

"I never responded to any medication for anxiety and depression, which was made worse by most medications. Deplin was a miracle for me. I started to use it this summer and my response was immediate. My response seemed to pop out this summer but I learned that some people can have this response and need to lower the dose and start and stop the medication. Also my response could have been do to the Klonopin that I reduced after 20 years of usage. Overall this medicine was a miracle for me.."

For Folate Deficiency "Hey gang, I took a gene test after nearly having no luck with any SSRIs and all the negative side effects. Once I started taking this, I was able to take 5mg Lexapro and .5mg of rexulti w/ no side effects, especially zero sexual side effects. I had Depressions, Anxiety, DP/DR and it nearly broke me last year. But this stuff I believe changed my life and allowed my body to react positively to the medications."

For Depression "I was having major anxiety and insomnia stemming from shoulder surgery. I wasn’t sure what was wrong with me. I eventually found a psychiatrist and he prescribed klonopin. That made me more depressed. I decided I needed a better psychiatrist. After meeting with this doctor, he decided to do the genetic testing. Three days later I find I have MTHFR. Compound heterozygous. Been on Deplin 15mg for over a year. I also take 10 mg Lexapro per day. Anxiety is better and I’m not nearly as angry. Changed my life for the better. Better late than never. I’m 54"

For Depression "I had been struggling with depression for many years. Had many bad experiences with the usual anti-depressants, SSRIs and such. After doing the gene psych test and finding out I was homozygous for the MTHFR gene, I asked my doctor if I could try Deplin and he said yes. After just three days it felt like my depression had mostly gone away. After three months I continue to feel better still. This drug has really been a miracle for me. And I have experienced zero side effects from it. I take the 15 mg. I take it in combination with 7.5 mg of mirtazapine. I hope this helps somebody who is on the fence about taking Deplin. It is a little bit pricey but for me it has been worth every penny."

"Prescribed for my young daughter with Autism and epilepsy, anxiety- hair pulling , but the dose was too high and caused even more anxiety, so found reducing it from every day, to once a week, and sometimes just twice a month, makes a huge difference for her to receive the benefit without the heightened anxiety. I muscle test for the amount and timing, and notice when she is pulling her eyelashes, hair or eyebrows."

For Depression "Deplin may have saved my life from menopausal depression. I am heterozygous for the C677T polymorphism in the MTHFR gene, but never had mood issues until late peri menopause (2023). In late March, throughout April and half of May, I experienced serious mood changes related to lower endogenous estrogen. Despite having an estrogen + Dr and good HRT, my mood deteriorated to the point where I went from highly productive and functional to extremely lethargic, unmotivated, exhausted and deeply emotionally vacant. I felt like a shell of myself. I told my new psychiatrist about the genetic test from 2018 and he recommended Deplin 15mg in addition to the Lexapro I had started a year before. I was skeptical, but about 3 weeks after starting it, I noticed a significant improvement in my mood, sleep, energy and motivation and it remains. If you’re in menopause and having difficulty with your mood, you may want to ask your Dr about Deplin and/or the genetic test."

For Folate Deficiency "If I could rate it a million I would! I have the double MTHFR gene mutation and this has been life-changing for me. I felt better within days of taking this medication. I have been on Lexapro for years, but when I started taking oral birth control pills, I was constantly crying, having panic attacks, and overall so anxious with a constant pit in my stomach. Even when I was still on the birth control pills, I noticed a huge difference from this medication, and even more now that I have stopped taking those. MTHFR shouldn't be ignored like I did for years. I pay $199 for a 90-day supply because it's that important to my quality of life (my insurance doesn't cover it). Seriously, give it a try!"

For Depression "I was so hopeful hearing about the possibilities of Deplin and depression. I've tried twice once at 15mg for about a week and had bad headaches. My doctor suggested taking half (7.5mg) the dose to see if my body would adjust at a lower dose and unfortunately it hasn't. In early start though my mood was better and I was sleeping restfully while the short time on it. The headaches are like migraine severity. Starts in the neck up the back of my head and towards my ears. Lasts for a few days in which I have to Aleve just to be able manage the pain. It would have been great to see if this would continue to improve my depression but it's definitely not worth the painful side effect I experience."

For Depression "I'm tapering off Prozac and am only taking 2.5mg. I prefer not to go on SNRI 's or SSRI's. I asked my psychiatrist what could I try instead. He suggested Deplin 15 and gave me 12 capsules. I have taken 6 so far and the only thing I noticed that it slows my lower GI tract. Hoping for better feelings in the future."

I started taking 15mg Deplin and quickly started to feel more energy. I have more motivation now and just feel better in general. I do have the homogenous C667T MTHFR variant and also had a slight folate deficiency before starting."
