Mucinex (guaifenesin) for Cough "Actually I was using Mucinex to control a nagging night time cough. Although I had extreme pain in my ankles and legs EVERY SINGLE DAY, I never dreamed that Mucinex would have any effect as to helping that. I took a dose of the Mucinex FastMax just before I went to bed and WOW, no cough AND no leg pain at all that night, at last I was pain free! I know it had to be the Mucinex because absolutely nothing else had made a difference! I will keep some on hand to use from now on. I hope this helps someone else also. Thank you."

Mucinex (guaifenesin) for Cough "I swear by this stuff. (I'm talking about Musinex's version of TheraFlu, it's fairly new-maybe last year it was put on the shelves) I have tried nearly every cold remedy in the history of the world from teas to drugs to more wholesome remedies but nothing has actually ever worked. This stuff actually reduces the duration of my colds and the severity of colds within the first day. Drink it in the morning and once before bed and you should be golden in 2 days. I'm more of that summertime cold-getter and it works like magic every time."

For Fibromyalgia "I had a question rather then a comment. I have read that products with SALICYLATES interfere with the GUAIFENESIN in the mucinex from working and that you should check all medications, skin products and supplements before taking it. Has everyone adhered to this that has had good results?"

For Fibromyalgia "I have been on protocol for almost a year. I was a patient of Dr St Amand who has mapped me three times. He said I cleared almost 75% and up my dose at 7 months. I have since been in agony. Ligaments and tendons tight and painful. Muscles constantly aching and stiff. Fatigue and pain off the charts. I would rather manage my occasional flair than try to do this so I am discontinuing. Very disappointed."

Mucinex (guaifenesin) for Bronchitis "Although Mucinex contains the exact same drugs as Robitussin D it doesn't work nearly as well for me as Robitussin D. Maybe because the Robitussin is a liquid? Mucinex has spent a lot more money on advertising but I would choose Robitussin D every time!"

Mucinex (guaifenesin) for Bronchitis "After struggling for 3 nights with excessive phlegm and trying literally everything (Expectorants etc...) to loosen up mucus, nothing made me have the real improvement that I needed, until I took the first Mucinex tablet and in the hour improvement did occur to my total surprise how effective it was... I am an anti-medicine guy but the situation was suffocating... I just feel sorry for all people who don't know this medicine that is why I write, so that someone will improve as I did... I rate it at 9 because no medicine can be 10 due to possible side effects, BUT NO SIDE EFFECTS FELT FOR ME AFTER 48 HOURS OF USE."

For Fibromyalgia "This OTC medicine saved me from the worst chronic pain phase ferom fibromyalgia that I have ever dealt with in the 17 years living with Fibromyalgia. I was absolutely shocked to read that an over the counter medicine like Mucinex could possibly relieve the pain/stiffness in my hips and lower back. Since I never catch respiratory viruses, I never have taken guaifenesin. The very first does eliminated at least 80% of the back/hip pain. By the 3rd day, taking only a 600mg time released dose , 2x a day, at 12 hours apart it has given me mobility and pain free hours that I have not experienced in years. Simply incredible! The only other medicine I take is hydrocodone at 5mg per dose, as needed. I've been on this opioid for over 9 years on and off. Bad days I would need it every 4 hours. Now with the guaifenesin, I have hopes to be totally off opioid pain medicine completely very soon."

Mucinex (guaifenesin) for Bronchiectasis "Mucinex is great. I was taking all kinds of medications for a pulmonary problem. Went to Mayo Clinic for the problem. I have bronchiectasis and was told never take an antihistamine but use mucinex a decongestant. I never looked back. When a doc tells me to take an antihistamine I say no. One time I took an antihistamine and had a problems for 3 months. Never again"

For Bronchitis "I have bronchial Asthma, I thought I I had bronchitis, I took Guaifenesin for it, it felt like my bronchials were closing up on me, I had to call my dr to tell him to get me prednisone. I took just a half tab of Guaifenesin before I went to bed, I woke up spasing, I couldn't breath. I had a do a couple of nebulizer treatments, take a prednisone to open me up. I called my doctor, he said don't take it anymore."

For Fibromyalgia "There's enough evidence incl to indicate that Guaifenesin does not work at all as Dr. St. Amand proposes. I take it anyways for my fibromyalgia related phlegm. It might have a minor or major relaxant effect in higher doses, which explains the benefits that patients report (including some that suggest it worked instantly) but that's as far as it goes. I took it for many years in a desperate attempt to make it work as suggested and rid myself of every single salicylate with obsession. There was no experiencing of cycling or getting better. I lost a lot of money buying Mucinex long lasting and combining with short-acting, and upped the dose to 3600mg/daily at some point to no avail. I'm giving it a 1 because it is not a fibromyalgia treatment."

For Fibromyalgia "I am a low dose and can only tolerate 300mg twice a day. I started the protocol at age 60 and was bedridden at least one week every month. My average daily pain level was between 8 to 10 out of 10. I was still in constant pain for the 1st year on the Protocol, but my days of being bedridden began to decrease drastically and the pain began to decrease as well. After a year and 8 months on the Protocol, I’m rarely bedridden at all and my pain levels have dropped to an average of 4 to 7 on most days. The Protocol is not easy to understand, but it is worth all of the effort! I’m beginning to get my life back!"

For Fibromyalgia "I was on the Guaifenesin treatment method of Dr St. Amand. After 6 months I could no longer tolerate the pain and exhaustion. Went to another Endocrinologist an discovered I have PanHypopituitarism and the pain and exhaustion was from that. Please make sure you are tested for all possible issues. Note: I also discovered that I should have been paying attention to the pain and not assuming it was just part of the Guaifenesin treatment. This delayed discovering what was truly wrong."

Mucinex (guaifenesin) for Fibromyalgia "I can't take any form of Mucinex, or it's generics, without becoming totally lethargic. I turn into a complete zombie. I'm happy for those of you who find relief with it, but for me, it's a total fail."

Mucinex Maximum Strength (guaifenesin) for Cough "I take an MAOI so I can't use decongestants. I take Mucinex when I start getting a cold or flu. It relieves my cough and congestion, keeps my lungs clear. Yes, it gives me a runny nose but that's what it's supposed to do, thin the mucous so you can get rid of it. My coughs are fewer and those I have are productive. Drinking a lot of water of other liquid is essential. I suspect some of the negative reviews are from folks who didn't drink enough. Personally I would recommend giving it a try, with lots of fluids."

Mucinex (guaifenesin) for Cough "I would give this a zero out of ten if it was possible. I rarely get sick but I have been having a lot of trouble with a runny nose and coughing up mucus. This "medicine" doesn't do anything. Not only does it taste terrible but it's useless. Followed instructions and I'm on day 7 with the same problems. Avoid this stuff"

Mucinex (guaifenesin) for Bronchitis "Jayce Wyatt My chronic bronchitis started out with post-nasal drip and a cough and I felt tired and turned in early. The next day the cough got worse and I felt lousy, so I called in sick. I felt steadily worse for another day, then on day three the fever started, and I couldn't sleep for more than an hour or so at a time for a whole week. When I went to the doctor I was given a Z-Pak, albuterol inhaler (the only thing that did me any good), oral steroids, cough pearls which didn't do any good, and was told to take Mucinex. In all, the fever lasted six days. I coughed so much I hurt my back and ended up in the emergency room because my back went into such spasms I couldn't move without extreme pain. They shot me full of morphine."

For Fibromyalgia "I have osteoarthritis of the spine and have severe muscle aches and pains all day long and worse at night. I find that when I take 10ml of robutussin chest cough mixtureIi am pain free for the day. Another 10ml guarantees a good night sleep. Though not confirmed I suspect I have fibromyalgia...in addition to the osteoarthritis."

Mucinex (guaifenesin) for Cough "I have been taking Mucinex for about 5 months.... one in a.m. and another at 8pm. I took it because I could not swallow any phlegm and it was difficult coughing it up. My esophagus muscles are very weak and the phlegm would block my air waves. Recently I have developed severe dry mouth as a side affect. I stopped the p.m. pill, and use biotene gel, toothpaste and mouth rinse.... still no relief. If anyone has had this problem, please let me know."

For Bronchitis "Guaifenesin is great for my bronchitis. But, I have learned, that whether I take the liquid or tablet, I must eat 1st. If I take this on an empty stomach, which is what I did about an hour ago, I have such a reaction it almost puts me on my knees. Luckily, within 15 mins of realizing what was going on, I was able to get something to eat. The 1st reaction was almost 20 years ago with the liquid, I ended up in the ER. I didn't know what was wrong. Today I took a pill on an empty stomach & my stomach began to cramp severely within a short time. This was a sinus/mucous relief tablet with guaifenesin. I'm okay now, but do not take guaifenesin on empty stomach! You don't want to try it first. I'll keep taking it, but eating first."

Mucinex (guaifenesin) for Bronchitis "I'm reading a lot of reports of Mucinex making people feel worse, as is the case with me. The main ingredient apparently thins down your mucus so basically, while already sick, this medicine gives you a runny nose. I've taken Mucinez twice and both same results."

For Fibromyalgia "I agree it probably doesn't work for the reasons set forth by St.Amand, but it did work for me (complying with the salicylate ban) in the timescales he finds, as follows: 3 days of nothing Then 2.5 days of feeling great Then 7 months of feeling worse than ever Then roughly 2 years of feeling much much better, but eventually it tailed off to nothing. Still the only effective FMS/CFS medicine I've tried except for LDN."

For Fibromyalgia "Today my doctor told me to try Guaifenesin for fibromyalgia. I'm thankful for all the reviews offered here especially the one saying to purchase the single ingredient product to be safe. I get a lot of side effects. I purchased the store brand Tussin which only has Guaifenesin as the active ingredient. I'm starting today and I'm very optimistic about improvement. I will post another review as soon as I can see the benefits."

For Fibromyalgia "I'll call it "guf" for short. Guf works but you have to understand your body. For a cough it helps by enabling free-er breathing, loosens, disolves flem. "Guf" used for treating fibromyalgia has done wonderfully for me, but you MUST ADHERE to a strict diet for AT LEAST ten days while dosing, I felt good results in a few days and it gave me the inccentive to keep doing it for 14 days, I felt so good, the diet is described in a small green book called "what your doctor didn't tell you about fibro."

For Fibromyalgia "Was "mapped" by Dr. R. Paul St. Amand and Dr. Melissa Congdon. Their maps were a little different but both of them diagnosed me as having fibromyalgia. Began the guaifenesin protocol about a year ago. The first capsule worked a little the very first time. That was it. Nothing has improved since then. I still have the same exact problems I've had for years. All I can say is I'm glad I'm not in as much pain as some others on this message board. Was advised to take more which is strange to me because I consume 800mg twice per day."
