For Cough and Nasal Congestion "This worked well for me. I had what felt like a pretty bad cold....headache, nasal and chest congestion and generally run down feeling. Stayed in bed the first day and on the second I took the prescribed dose of Mucinex D - 2 tablets at 7:30 pm. I didn't experience the insomnia others spoke of, but maybe my perspective is different, because I KNOW that if I hadn't taken it I'd be up blowing my nose and coughing all night. Yes, I did wake up a few times more than usual, but I wasn't miserable when I did."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I took this for some relief of nasal and chest congestion. Let me warn you do not take it, as within a half hour my heart was racing and I was jittery and anxious. On top of it it made me sick to my stomach and I feel like someone is sitting in my chest. I can’t quench my thirst. No matter how much water I drink. I hope this feeling doesn’t last the entire 12 hours. This is horrible. I will never take this again and this should be removed from the market"

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "Took first dose at 8:30 am and went to work. Definitely cleared me up so, as directed, took another dose at 12 hours (8:30 pm) and went to bed feeling tired. As medication took effect, I became restless and tossed and turned and found myself unable to sleep. 1:30 am and I'm learning of my mistake. Packaging should definitely be updated to disclose this fact. Works great to clear sinuses but I won't take again at night due to side effect of insomnia"

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I took Mucinex D last night because of slight congestion. It’s currently 4 am and I have the PSAT in 4 hours. I’m wide awake with my heart pounding and ears rushing. Thought it was the the worst case of test taking anxiety I’ve had but alas, it was the Mucinex ( the pseudoephedrine part). I do NOT recommend this for night use."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I have an insanely bad cold and my sinuses are so stopped up I took this thinking it would bring me some relief. It sure did, along with anxiety and feeling like I was cracked out of my mind !!!! Now I’m sitting here at 12AM reading everyone else’s reviews when I have to go back to work tomorrow after 2 days off ... ugh. No one told me the pseudoephedrine would make me so wired!"

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "For years I had earaches and dizziness. Doctors told me that the drainage in my ear is messed up but tubes would not fix it as I'm past the age. One nurse practitioner put me on Mucinex D and it worked like magic. I use it only as needed."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I took the medicine in the morning. I can finally take a deep breath! I have had sinus congestion issues for years, and I wish I would have known about this product much sooner. Its awesome. I only took one pill and I am 6' 4" 270lbs and that seems to me fine for solid relief."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "Have taken Mucinex D several times over the past few years with congestion. It is the best thing out there to make me feel better during the day but I only take it in the morning with food. Even then I usually don't sleep great at night but do not experience the insomnia others are talking about"

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "Yep, I took ONLY 1 Mucinex D almost 24 hours ago for the 1st time and I'm still up. During the 1st 12 hours I didn't sleep a wink because I took this pill right before bed. My nose was dripping the whole night. This thing definitely unclogged my sinuses without the uncomfortable burning sensation of inhaling and the pain behind my face. My sinus relief lasted the whole 12 hours! I kept thinking it would wear off sooner. Throughout the day I haven't stopped sneezing and it's a scary sneeze, as in a loud scream, I've been scaring people all day. This is not my normal/typical sneeze. I usually sneeze like a silent little bunny! This is how I found this website to find out what this sneezing is all about. Doctor prescribed."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I’ve been coughing for days (unable to sleep because of the cough), can’t breathe through my nose and have a congestion headache. Took 2 pills in the morning and it took a while to kick in but several hours later I realized I could actually take a full breath through my nose, headache improved, still coughing but not quite as bad. I didn’t have any issues with feeling jittery or wide awake."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "Absolutely amazing! My partner and I have nasal congestion for weeks but 10 minutes after taking one, we coughed and all of a sudden were clear! I feel like I haven't used the bottom half of my lungs in weeks. A little bit expensive. "

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "This is Amazing!!!! I was miserable, sinus pressure, headache, stuffy nose, sneezing , coughing up phlegm, and had no sleep because of the cough, I asked the pharmacist what she recommended and this was it , I took it at 12 pm it felt a little better 1 hour in , then my cough was very minimal, then my cough was obsolete, no more stuffy nose, sounded a little congested still , and became very sleepy I was not able to stay awake , this was closer to 9 pm, then I woke up at midnight to take the second dose , it’s been two days and I’m back to myself , I’m amazed. The weird part is that I didn’t get the insomnia or energy other reviewers or the pharmacist have said lol so this is a different affect on everyone , I’m extremely satisfied with the help it gave me ! I advise to be specific about the issues you are experiencing so that you can get the right medication since there are so many different versions of this. Good luck on your recovery"

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "Used Mucinex D. Followed the directions and six days later I was admitted to the hospital. My pulse was at 171. The first doctor wanted to stop and restart my heart! I am a healthy, active female with none of the medical conditions listed on the DO NOT TAKE list on the Mucinex D box. Medical bills are over $5,000 so far. Not including the Stress Test and time off from work. Don’t gamble with your heart, stay away from Mucinex D."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "Followed directions & took 2x Mucinex D 1200mg at 930PM. Decided to pick this up after bring sick & out of work for 5 days. I was really tired & dozed off at 1130PM. Its 330AM, I can't sleep... I'm wide awake with an extra dry mouth, swelling of the tongue, slight nausea, tossing & turning (anxiety?), tingling/weakness in my arms. Most of my cold symptoms are gone(amazingly!), but I can't shake these side effects right now & am wondering exactly when I'll be able to sleep! I would NOT recommend taking this at night time, & if you are going to try this stuff to start with just 1 pill."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "It dehydrates you like crazy and I could not drink enough liquids. My throat got so dry it caused me to cough uncontrollably. For the past 3 nights I could not sleep... Even took 10mg of Ambien which usually knocks me out cold.... But it didn't work. I just found this site and learned that my insomnia is caused by mucinex d. Not worth the lack of sleep!"

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I am definitely feeling better as far as not being congested goes. However, I am writing this at 4:52am because I have not been able to sleep all night long. I took the medicine at about 8pm so I probably won't be doing that again."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I took mucinex the capsule as directions state to help me with severe congestion the night before Thanksgiving. After reading the reviews I must say it had the opposite effect on me, it made me tired. The best way for me to describe it was I get like I took a muscle relaxer but not as strong. Just made me feel slightly weak and needed to sleep. Although, definitely helped relieve my symptoms from being congested such as my headache and cough. So for my sake I would want to take it at night and definitely not have to drive anywhere. I am not one to take medication or any drugs for that matter."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "After being diagnosed with Bronchitis I took the prescribed dose of 1200mg at 11:30 it is AM, it’s now 3:07 am the next day and I am still not able to go to sleep! Thank God I did not take it every 12 hours as recommended I would be going crazy like the other reviews! So nervous about if I will be falling asleep at work or still wide awake in a few hours. NO REST in sight. I guess it is the pseudoephedrine in it that is keeping me awake."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "My PCP suggested I take this to help with severe congestion. I took 3 doses of the 12 hours (max strength) at the prescribed intervals. Basically one that afternoon, then one the next morning and one that evening. That night I COULD NOT SLEEP. I have never had problems sleeping, and usually could find some way to read for a bit or do a relaxation exercise in the event it took longer than normal. I'm normally asleep by 10 or 11. It's now 4 am, I am not one bit sleepy and I have to get up for work in 2 hours. Should be an interesting day."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "This medication cleared my completely congested nose in about an hour. I could breathe perfectly clearly through both nostrils! However, as others have mentioned, it made my heart race, and when I was exercising later that night, I felt lightheaded and had to quit early. I also couldn't sleep that night. My heart was feeling very fluttery and I was wide awake in bed. "

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "Had congestion for 3 weeks. Doctor gave me anti-biotics and suggested mucinex D twice a day. First two days seemed to help congestion somewhat but was no appetite and somewhat anxious. Third night took at 11pm and slept about 2 hours. Woke up with heart racing and anxiety. I couldn't sleep and was pacing. Effects starting to wear off at 10am. Wish I had seen this site first."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I agree with so many that's left review here! I do feel it helps with my cough and congestion, but I agree with the feeling of anxiety, heart racing, and most definitely sleepless nights (which is due to the pseudoephredrine in it)! I need my sleep. I may just take in the AM or just not take anymore. Not to mention it is very expensive for OTC (behind the pharmacy) medicine. My prescriptions with my insurance are way less than this!"

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I have suffered Sinus problems my entire life, I have found that using a Saline Sinus wash 2 times a day ( Morning and Evening, before I shower) and takinfg Mucinex D when I am having really bad episodes, seems to be the perfect combo. I was also told that you should not take Mucinex D for more than 5 days. if you take it for 5 days you should go off of it for 15 days before going back on the medication. The Sinus wash is the secret, I also use a swimmer ears solution in my ears a couple of times a week and this seems to help with the build up of bacteria in the fluid that is always in my ears. I hope this helps."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I have severe sinus problems all year long, but worse in the fall. The pressure pain is almost unbearable. My doctor has prescribed everything under the sun to help relieve the symptoms and nothing works better than Mucinex D. I never have any drainage with my sinuses...just the pain/pressure and I can get almost immediate relief after I take 1 bi-layer tablet (1200mg guaifenesin and 120mg pseudoephedrine). The medicine says it has an immediate release layer that works quickly and it does. Then it has an extended release layer that works over the next few hours. I also have the side effect of insomnia, but it's so worth it to relieve that sinus pressure (those of you who have it know what I'm talking about!)."
