"Been struggling with GERD for a while, got prescribed famotidine at 20mg per pill. If anything, I’d rather just battle my GERD symptoms without it. Makes me feel extremely nauseous, stomach is constantly churning and making me feel like I need to vomit. If I could give it a 0/10 I would. This stuff is pure garbage"

"I had the worst experience of my life this morning. I was given this horrendous drug yesterday and took one last night. I woke this morning and literally couldn't breath. Couldn't even talk. Had to rush to A@E. Oxygen levels were low had to have an ECG and was put on a nebuliser. Omg this drug is going to kill someone. Please be careful. Scared me to death and still wheezy."

"It doesn't do a darn thing for me. I don't even know why I bother taking it. I have to sleep sitting up so that I don't throw up all night from GERD. I have tried all of the major drugs to try to control my condition, but none of them work. Very discouraging. The only thing that seems to help even a little bit is keeping my stomach full at all times (at least when I throw up, it's not bile or acid). I've gained almost 60 pounds this last year as a result of it, though."

"I took it for a week and didn't have the energy or will to get out of bed. I was 30 years old. Not a crier, but on this drug I started crying uncontrollably, for no reason. Laughing and crying at the same time. It was the worst feeling I've ever had. Told my Doctor about it. He said I needed counseling. I had no idea what was causing those horrible feelings. After talking with several doctors with no help I went to counseling. The counselor looked up all the drugs I was taking at the time and found that it was pepcid. The symptoms were gone in two days after stopping pepcid. I told my Doctor about it, he was amazed that he had never heard of that side effect before."

"I have GERD, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. For my GERD, it is cheaper to buy OTC medicines rather than prescription version. I take famotidine 10mg tablets twice day before meals. I take this along with 200mg Cimetidine. For the cimetidine I take 2 tablets twice a day. This therapy works great for me and my doctor is glad I finally found a relief."

"Yesterday was my first time taking it since I have stomach soreness from food poisoning last week. Right after taking it, I was coughing felt nauseous and it felt like my chest was tightening but it only lasted an hour. I felt tired and had a migraine most of the day. Today, I got the same symptoms of the coughing, Nausea and chest tightness. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow and see what else I can take."

Pepcid AC Chewable Tablets (famotidine) "I bought this due to chronic gastritis inflammation, bad GERD, hiatal hernia, and having Crohn’s IBD. I was told by several doctors that I could use it in between Protonix 40 mg ppi. I have been struggling for the past couple of months with really bad acid reflux to where it burns when the acid hits my intestines. Causes intense diarrhea and with Crohn's squeezing pains you can’t understand less you have it. Crohn’s is horrible, unfortunately. When I took the medication I felt “really off” like I just wanted to drop, felt like I didn’t have control of my nervous system. Laid down, and tried to calm myself down."

"Took one chewable tablet of Pepcid Complete for my GERD. It helped with the stomach acid but about two hours later I had strong intestinal cramping and diarrhea, which thankfully lasted only about a half hour afterward."

"No side effects on Famotidine. Started taking 10 mg in 2005; diagnosed with Acid Reflux and CAD after I had chest and shoulder pains. Famotidine worked well for 8 years; then after more major life stressors, Acid Reflux got worse and I had constant side pain; then diagnosed with Gastritis. Made dietary changes; eventually got better continuing to use Famotidine as needed. Recently, Dr. increased it to 20 mg. Worked well until a few months ago; waking up with frequent sore throat. Bad side pain from 2013 came back, probably from coffee, dairy, and spicy food. Famotidine still gives me relief but bad stomach pain persists. I also had an episode of intense side pain under my right breast and in the shoulder blade. So something more going on — maybe gallbladder. My doctor put me on Prilosec for 14 days while waiting for an ultrasound and CT scan. I still take 1 Famotidine in the morning and it gets rid of the sore throat. Weaning myself off coffee and gave up dairy again."

"I have taken famotidine for several years now. My complaints to my Gastro doctor was I got sick to my stomach a lot, or planning for a vacation and by the time of vacation I am sick to my stomach. I didn't like going on vacation because by the time I got there I was sick to my stomach. My Doctor told me he would fix me right up. He said that my throat was slowly closing up and he would go in and stretch my throat. He said the constant reflux was building up something like a scab. He operated on my throat and prescribed famotidine to be taken 20 minutes before eating. I take it at dinner. He stretched my throat and the prescription he prescribed works great of 40 mgs. I feel great with no side effects. I do not look at the side effects because then my imagination would run wild! All I know is I feel great. I am tired a lot but that could come from other medications that I had been using before taking famotidine."

"Was put on omeprazole while in hospital, after 6 month I developed constant nausea and sickness, after speaking with my own local doctor she told me to stop taken them and start famotidine 20mg twice per day, stopped omeprazole on the Friday and started famotidine Saturday, one tablet and within 3 hours the nausea / sickness was gone, couldn’t believe it, only side affects I've had with famotidine is a mild sore head which clears after 10 min roughly, other slight niggle is stomach and abdomen area rumbles and growling loudly later on at nights, really can not fault this drug. Being honest if you get prescribed this try it it has helped me wonders, but time will tell only been on it 2 weeks, looks promising for sure"

"I was prescribed famotidine to help with my GERD and excess acid. First day was fine but the next day was horrible. I had anxiety, cough, muscle spasms in my legs and foot and my blood pressure went through the roof. It shot up to 188/108! I stopped taking it and will go back to Protonix until I can see my GI doc. Really disappointing because it did help my GERD"

"I used to take famotidine 20mg 2 x daily and it did the job. Now I need it every 5 to 6 hrs for relief. So I decided to use Pepto-bismal yesterday morning at 8 and it worked very well and lasted until about 9pm. Then I took a Pepcid that night, but it doesn't work for me like it use to."

"Please do not take this drug. My son was on Ranitidine for years with no side effects but when they took it off the market- they prescribed Famotidine. Right away I noticed me son was not sleeping at night, it was like he was wired for days. He was up and irritable and moaning a lot and at night he would wake up throwing up so bad and would have trouble breathing. After this happening for a few nights I realized it was probably the medication so I stopped giving him it and by the second night he finally was sleeping through the night without waking up throwing up. He also has had several dilation of his throat and when he was on famotidine he developed lumps in his throat and I told his Gastrointestinal doctor I think it is from the famotidine and he said probably not. So the next dilation was 3 months later and I was not giving him the famotidine and guess what the lumps miraculously disappeared. He also is diabetic and it was affecting his insulin."

"Controls the acid in your stomach for GERD. If you are regurgitating a lot this will definitely help painful regurgitation/reflux episodes. However, since starting this drug I occasionally get panic attacks and get severe anxiety despite never having anxiety issues my entire life. You have to weigh the pros and cons."

"I was prescribed famotidine 20 by my ENT doctor at bedtime. Went In with sinus issues and he went down my nose/throat and notice severe acid reflux which is odd because I rarely get heartburn. Been taking it for a week and noticing odd things. I will discontinue it tonight to see if the side effects go away. I started burping a lot and would wake up nauseous. Breathing sometimes is off. and felt like I have a chest gas bubble that won’t come out and I have been taking gas-x. The chest discomfort made my anxiety worse some days. At first, I was happy with this medication because it helped me sleep and stopped my dry cough at night but a lot of these issues started after taking it. When I burp it does relieve the pressure but then comes back later on and today started randomly feeling leg pain. I’m hoping after I stop the issues will subside. Otherwise, it’s another issue."

"I have been taking Famotidine for 2 weeks now as a subsitute for Cimetidine which out of supply at the moment. This med is really good for the interstitial cystitis in my bladder and doubles up to reduce GERD too. Taking 2mg twice per day. No other side effects."

"Took it for COVID nausea/GERD and felt super drowsy 30 min. after taking it. Then anxious and paranoid for the rest of the night. My stomach was super bloated with tons of gas and pains more than without it. I've had diarrhea this morning, cried, and had a heart palp. My son took some last night as well and burped so much. Even though the half-life says 2-3 hours, I definitely believe that the side effects last longer. Drinking lots of water to get this crap out of my system. This stuff should be discontinued. Our Pedi even said there was no side effects with this.... everything has a side effect. Was $20 too."

"I was prescribed Famotidine for my stomach issues. I took this medication for a couple of weeks and it seemed to help stomach issues however I had severe twitching and cramps in my right leg for three days so I stopped taking famotidine. Recently my stomach started to play up, went to the doctor and was prescribed another H2 Receptor medication but it was not in stock, and had to take famotidine. I took 40mg at night for 3 nights and was fine however on the third night I started to feel high levels of anxiety, had a strange feeling in my head, and had insomnia. I won't be continuing to take this medication anymore."

"I stared taking this medication 3 days ago and I’ve had really bad side effects. I’ve had diarrhea, headaches, anxiety right after I take it, and joint pain especially on my arm and my back. My dr said I had to continue taking this medication as it has been helping with my stomach acid but it takes me a while to not feel the side effects of this medication."

"I've been taking this for IDK how long. Probably since ranitidine has been taken off the shelves. But I've been clean off meth for almost 4 YEARS.! Went and did a drug test for a possible new job only to test positive for meth and thats the only thing I've been taking. Thankfully was told oral drug tests aren't very accurate so had to do a urine test instead. But will not be taking Famotidine any longer. It didn't even help my acid reflux. Kept taking it because I thought it was from the stuff I've been eating"

"Worst pills ever. They don't relieve my acid reflux and they keep me up all night. It's like I'm on speed when I take them. I can't sit still and clean my house like a maniac when I'm on them. The crash the next morning is horrible and my entire body aches. Switching back to Omeprazole. This stuff is garbage!"

"I've been on famotidine for about 3 months & was advised by my doctor to taper down and stop taking omeprazole for GERD symptoms. Famotidine does absolutely nothing, though, and while I can get by with only taking omeprazole every other day, if I try to go any longer than that without taking omeprazole, the reflux symptoms kick back in worse than they were before. We're talking, "gets heartburn even from milk" without the omeprazole. I'm sure famotidine works for some folks, but it does nothing to ease my symptoms."

"I was prescribed 20+20mg for GERD. At first few days appeared great, considerably lessened symptoms, but on day 2 came the runs. Like a sudden need for toilet, and then on the worst diarrhea you can imagine. My GP recommended to continue with medication as typically the diarrhea might go away, but it didn't. Then started the headache, a throbbing nightmarish pain , and with GERD it's not like you want to take pain relievers to your already inflamed esophagus..do put up with it. And finally after few more days a nausea. Constant feeling like you're going to throw up That's it for me, swapping one symptom to three! I preferred the GERD!"
