Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I had a TIA in October 2020 and was diagnosed with Atrial fibrillation. I was prescribed Clopidogrel and 60mg Lixiana an anticoagulant. Ended up in A&E with severe vaginal bleeding. Am now on 5mg of Eliquis twice per day (no clopidogrel) and again after 2 weeks experienced heavy bleeding and ended up in hospital for 3 days having saline drip to 'irrigate' my bladder until my urine ran clear. Have not been fortunate to see a cardiologist (he has a waiting list of 38 weeks) but was under care of urologist in hospital. My GP insists taking Eliquis is preventing me from having a stroke or heart attack. But I am frightened of these severe side effects and fear a cranial bleed . Feel tired and listless and as a formerly fit 74 year old now have no energy and trouble walking far. Am between a rock and hard place and think this drug is lethal and not fully understood by the medics. There must be an alternative as life is not worth living like this."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis "I had a blood clot in abdominal superior mesenteric artery. I was prescribed Eliquis following open surgery to bypass thrombosed SMA artery in the abdomen. Side effects for me are predominantly GI related: severe abdominal/intestinal cramping/pain within 20-40 min after taking it & which lasts a couple hours. It has been confirmed I am now getting adequate blood to my GI system since surgery, so that is not the problem. Bloating and gas are also a problem since taking Eliquis for 2 1/2 months. Hoping my cardiologist will agree to switch me to a different option, even if it means INR blood tests. I had lots of GI issues prior to surgery that affected my quality of life. Albeit the GI issues I now have are different than pre-bypass, Eliquis is a key factor in my continued reduced quality of life."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I have been on Eliquis now for four months. Indication: Acute Pulmonary Embolism (PE) ; Source: Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). In addition, I initially had briefly Atrial Fibrillation (AF), triggered by the PE, but this was gone the next day. My truly emergency treatment was 72 hours of intravenous heparin started in the ICU of my hospital, switching to oral Eliquis on the 4th day. Sad to say, my Medicare Part D formulary will require my switch to another equivalent drug after covering Eliquis through this month. Not to worry, there are three effective and FDA approved drugs in this category of Factor Xa inhibitors of coagulation (clotting) and I can safely switch to the one covered in my Medicare D plan next month."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I have been on Eliquis (5mg x 2 a day) for 14 months due to an A-fib diagnosis and so far have not experienced any adverse side effects. While on Eliquis I did notice that when I cut myself shaving that I bleed less than when I was previously on a 325 mg aspirin."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "I had pulmonary embolism, shortness of breath and all that, traced to a clot in my left leg. Eliquis was prescribed immediately and fairly quickly stopped new clots from forming. The existing clot that was throwing off small clots disappeared over a few months. I had no side effects other than it somehow seemed easy to bruise the back of my right hand, but those would go away within a week. I discontinued the Eliquis. Then, about a year and a half later had right leg swelling, which turned out to be a vein problem and a blood clot again. Back on Eliquis and that has now resolved. I'm staying on Eliquis for the foreseeable future. That's fine with me as I see no side effects, other than the bruising."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "I had a blood clot in my leg (DVT) Which caused a clot to go to my right lung (PE). Started taking the drug Eliquis at the hospital. My first prescription was filled at Walmart for $78.00 with insurance. CVS Charged be $40.00 for my second prescription with insurance. I called Eliquis and did qualify for a $10.00 copay card. Yea! I've experience nose bleeds after blowing my nose. I've had dizzy spells that feel like very low blood pressure or feel like passing out after standing. Sometimes I'm ok but, after about 20 steps it hits me hard. I've had rashes on my hip and pectoral region of chest. I've had to itch my arm and ended up causing a bruise. Be careful and scratch lightly. Please quit smoking if any way possible."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "I feel worse than when I was diagnosed with a PE. Awful chest pain Extreme knee, lower leg, and foot pain Feel flushed and sweaty. Mild to moderate headaches Weight gain of 15 pounds in 5 weeks with water retention. Very easy to use, but not every medication is meant for everyone. 10mg twice a day, then 5mg twice a day. It has only been 5 weeks and Dr. wants me on it for a lifetime. I would rather not wake up at all, if this is how I have to live, which I already have canceled many activities due to the wretched way I feel from this medication. Meyers Squibb need to be more open about reporting side effects instead of just pushing medications out on the market. FDA FOOLS!!!"

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I am now 76 and I have had Atrial Fibrillation since 2006. In 2007 I got Apocard (Flecainide) 250 mg and Asaflow 160 mg, then 80 mg until 2012-2013 when I got a gastritis largely because of the Asaflow (practically Aspirin). Since 2013 I am on Eliquis 5 mg twice a day. From day one I had no adverse effects whatsoever. In the meantime I also had an ablation which really produced wonders: I reduced the Apocard to the minimum dose of 100mg and hardly get any palpitations anymore. I take large daily doses of magnesium (400-500 mg) with Vitamine B6. On days when predisposition to palpitations is higher I also take Calmday 5 mg one or twice. Other days I take Valium 10 mg (at night time)."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I have been taking Eliquis for about 7 months due to AF. I resisted taking Eliquis forever and insisted that aspirin was doing the job. My cardiologist was nice but firm in mentioning that I have a history of strokes on the maternal side of my family. My AF got worse after 8 years of being on Flecanaide, bp and cholestrol meds so I had a cryoablation in June of 2016. So far I have not had any bad side effects but I do have some dizziness and occasional flushing. I also have a tendency to get rashes. Has anyone had this happen? So far I've been fine and no AF so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it all works."

Also gained weight despite exercising and eating the same. Have taken it for just over four months and have developed another dvt whilst taking this as prescribed."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis "From the second day of 5mg every 12hr I could walk again. I got a clot in the popliteal vein behind the knee. I discovered after 3 weeks of mild pain and difficulties to bend the knee, and increasing swelling in the left leg. After 8 months doctors reduce the amount at half (2,5mg every 12 hr)Apixaban works as a miracle with me. No problems at all and the peace of mind to don't have to check the blood every so often."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I'm a 51 year old white, female, who had an ER visit after 2 weeks of calf pain that got unbearable. A sonogram showed 2 DVT's in my calf, and I've never had any previous issues with blood clots, DVT's, heart, or valve/artery issues. They couldn't really figure out what caused them, as I'm evidently a very low risk subject. I've been home, and on Eliquis for 4 days now, with no side effects at all, other than being scared to death of others experiences with side effects. My swelling has gone down, my leg pain feels 100% better, and I can walk again. Prayers for everyone!"

Eliquis (apixaban) "Water retention, weight gain (30lbs), swollen ankles, rash on left leg severe, right leg not too bad. Was severely sweating after heart was out of rhythm (after 10- 15 mins walking) NOW I cannot walk 20 feet without heavy breathing after taking Elequis. Cannot sleep and I used to sleep like a baby. Heart is good, stress test was good claustrophobia. Tops of my thighs are always itchy. I will bet there will be a class action lawsuit soon! Hope I still am alive to see this med taken off market! Am 68 years old with stents and no heart attacks or strokes"

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "After being on Eliquis 5mg twice per day for few weeks, I had severe bleeding from nose, mouth small abrasion on arm, genital area, etc. Could not get appointment with doctor---nurse had me reduce it to 2.5 mg twice per day and told me I could cut the 5mg tablets in half, which I later found should not be done apparently because cutting causes some loss of tablet. Continue to have excessive bleeding with minor scrapes and cuts for long periods. Also no appetite, no energy, difficulty keeping balance, and the sensation of the body "swirling:" causing a fall off commode with a huge bruise, increased loss of urine, and progressive decline in vision. Did not have these problems when on Coumadin some time ago."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I am 30 years old and was placed on eliquis 5mg twice daily after a venogram with stenting in my left groin. Since I've been on eliquis, it's done it's job as far as thinning m blood, but I've also had some really nasty side effects from it. I have been bleeding vaginally for 16 days (was on my period when I started the medication and haven't stopped bleeding), I am diabetic and take multiple injections daily so I look like someone has beat me up, I'm constantly nauseated, have no appetite, no energy, heart palpitations at times, cold all the time, night sweats, and pink tinged urine. I'm waiting on a call back from the Dr to see about lowering the dose or change going the medication all together."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "Had double pulmonary embolisms, 1 clot in my heart, 1 in my stomach and 1 DVT all at the age of 39. I was started on Xarelto. Didn't really have any side effects except losing my hair at an alarming rate. After about 3 months my Dr switched me to Eliquis. Everything is fine except the hair loss has not let up after being on it for about a month now. Additionally my platelet count is the highest it has ever been. Don't know if that is related, also had a dissected carotid artery. Really hoping the hair loss lets up soon."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis "Following knee surgery I developed a blood clot. The doctor originally put me on Xarelto and that was a disaster Dr had to take me off of it after 3 weeks and we switched to Eliquis. Almost immediately after beginning to take Eliquis I start to have random itching sensations all over by body. At first I didn’t think anything of it, but after 4 weeks on it I started to have uncontrollable itching late at night and extreme swelling in hands and feet due to the scratching. I would also develop hives and what looked like diaper rash all over my body. Luckily between the two drugs the clot is gone and I am back on aspirin. I have only been off of Eliquis for 5 days and some of the rash and itching has gotten better but not yet gone. I think some of the interactions seemed to be related to what I would eat."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Thromboembolic Stroke Prophylaxis "My 83 yo father was in danger of losing his life. Has Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), stomach problems and prostate cancer in past. He had developed a Blood clot behind ICD. He deteriorated within 3 days of taking this drug, couldn't walk and bleeding out through back passage, kidneys and we don't know where else as still waiting for test results. His lactate levels 7.3 on admittance to hospital; a sustained 5 has a survival rate of only 11% so dad lucky thus far. He has received 4 units of blood, oxygen, saline solution to try to flush it out. This medication must be administered with caution, looking at previous conditions and closely monitored. My dad deteriorated within 72 of starting it. The external symptoms are: listlessness, waxy skin, breathing difficulties, paralysis of lower limbs."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Thromboembolic Stroke Prophylaxis "I had a stroke (Lacunar Infarct left side of pons area ) and was placed on Eliquis 5 mg twice per day. I began itching head to toe since April 2017. I looked up the side effects tonight and found this site. I am stopping this medication starting tonight! I can’t wait to stop ITCHING!! My skin feels like sandpaper. I feel like I have been wearing a wool body suit. Inside my ear canals are itching. I thought my stroke brought on cataracts- no this drug did. I am also suffering from insomnia and what do you know, it’s from this drug. Restless leg syndrome, confusion, I can go on and on. I’m stopping this drug now and will let my doc know. I do thank Eliquis for giving me the coupon to purchase this drug for $10.00/mo. But so sorry it is not for me."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "43 year old female have to be on some type of preventative for clotting, Hematologist said this is the best on market. I have gained over 30 pounds in 5 months. The weight is weird, I can feel my legs swelling at various times during the day and then feel the release. It scares me. Sometimes it feels like my skin is so tight it will rip if I bend my knees. My dr states it’s better than having a clot. I’m not so sure. I feel like a guinea pig. I tell him the weight is from the medication and he states there have been no reports of weight gain from Eliquis. Well that’s probably because the medical community doesn’t want to report it. My Pharmacist shares with me that other patient have experienced the same thing. I know it’s not just me. What is this drug doing to my body?"

Got terrible pains in my back (or so I thought) at the end of 8 weeks I had pulmonary embolisms in both lungs. Put on equilis.
