Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I am 61 years old. Have been in permanent Afib for approximately 6 years. I was originally put on 100mg aspirin for 18 months, then went on to Warfarin prior to an attempt at cardioversion. Heart remained in Afib so was soon after put on to Eliquis (5mg tab twice a day). I have been on this medication now for 4 years. Prior to being on Elequis, I had to inject with Clexane prior to any air travel as a precaution. Since being on Eliquis I have not had any side effects, no need for Clexane when travelling. The only precaution recommended was NOT to take any medications such as Ibroprufen for pain relief or flu and cold capsules that contain pseudoephedrine."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "I was 23 when I developed my first DVT and was instantly put on Xarelto. Being low risk, I was told to go on with normal activity. Xarelto left me feeling exhausted after minimal activity. Two days later, my DVT moved through my heart, into my lungs causing a PE. I was put on Heparin while in the hospital. Left the hospital a few days later and resumed Xarelto with the continued awful side effects. I continued to experience chest pain, shortness of breath, and extreme exhaustion. My doctor thought I was having a reaction to the medicine so they switched me to Eliquis. Since then, I have had zero side effects. I have my life back for once. Love that you don't need to have your INR checked, and foods don't counteract the drug."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "I had a PE in August 2019. A blood clot went from my left calf to my lung. I had never any issues related to blood clots before. While in the hospital, I was diagnosed as having Lupus Anticoagulant Disorder. I was sent home on Coumadin. I hated the side effects and how they made me feel. I had no energy. And felt so lethargic. I went from having long hair past my butt to my hair being in a pixie like cut. Coumadin made my hair fall out. And lets not even get started on the weekly to sometimes twice weekly protime blood work. My INR was up and down and my fingers so sore and bruised from checks. Fast forward to April 2020 and the doctor finally switched my to Eliquis. I've had no side effects so far. And I'm so happy to be off Coumadin I could cry. For that it has been a god send. Now as far as co pay is concerned, I am on Medicaid and it paid the full cost. I am not sure about others."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "About 2 years ago a large DVT was discovered, and was immediately started on Eliquis. Started with a double dose for a short while, then 5mg 2/day for almost a year, then dropped to 2.5mg for about 6 months. No side effects that I can identify. At about 18 months the Hematologist decided that the DVT was "incident related" and unlikely to recur. Off Eliquis, but continued 81 Aspirin. Six months later another clot found its way into my lungs, Pulmonary Embolism everywhere. The doctors declared me "a clotter", and put me back on Eliquis at 5mg 2/day -- this time for life. Well they did suggest that I might cut back to 2.5mg after a year if tests prove I'm stable. After reading other posts here I'm thankful that all those terrible side effects have stepped aside in my case. The only effect I see is when I bash my knuckles when working on my truck there's a little bit of extra bleeding -- probably good in the long run as it washes the wound."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Started taking this in August 2023 for afib. I experienced extreme pain and weakness in my arms and shoulders, but didn't connect it to Eliquis. As an example of my issues, in spring 2023, I worked three days chainsawing trees and then stacked all the wood in big piles. However, this fall, when I started the same job, I couldn't even complete one hour of work. The same chainsaw felt too heavy, and my arms were in pain. I spent the next week hardly able to do anything, and my productivity was completely shot. I went to the doctors, got X-rays, and was evaluated. I was told it was arthritis, but it was actually my muscles hurting. One day this week, I was pleasantly surprised that the pain subsided, and I was able to sleep. That's when I realized I had missed two doses of Eliquis. Bingo."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "The following problems occur when taking Eliquis: First I want to mention that I am also on Sotalol since 2008 (taken alone no side effects) 80mg am and 40mg pm. It seems as if most drugs that i try out have an effect on the Sotalol although the register says that there is no inteaction between those drugs. Beside it runs in the family that most of us (3) have a problem with almost any drug Eliquis: headache, restless heartbeat, perspiring, dizziness and physical instability, general weakness and shaky legs, etc. Generally unhappy"

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Cardiologist put me on eliquis for A flutter about 4 months ago Have no symptoms or problems with a flutter. If they didn't tell me I had it, I wouldn't know I had it. At first I felt tired and no energy. They said that could be due to A flutter. That has gotten better. I'm 70' so it could be just my age slowing me down. I go to the gym, work with a personal trainer, and he says for my age, I am inn excellent shape. I play softball. I have no side effects of Eliquis so far. Maybe I bruise easier than before, but it goes away. Minor cuts don't seem to bleed any more than when I was on low dose aspirin. I still want to get off of it, so I am going to a cardio physicist to see if he can cure the flutter."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I am totally blind in one eye due to taking Eliquis. My case is so bad the drs. at Emory have never seen one this bad and don't know what to do. I have lost weight and don't eat. I have a very severe headache as well. This is no life for anyone. I have not been outside the house for the last month except to go to the dr. I have seen the drs. quite a few times during the last 30 days. They are just trying to keep me comfortable."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Possibly due to my flu/pneumonia, had an episode of ventrical tachycardia followed by a-fib. Had an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). Put on beta blockers and antibiotics in hospital and monitored for several days before going home with script for Eliquis in addition to the other meds. The need for a blood thinner was debated because of very low risk factors. After 4th dose of Eliquis on the second day of being released, developed itchy red rash over much of face, neck, torso, arms, thighs and genital area. Doctor advised me to stop taking Eliquis."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis Prophylaxis after Knee Replacement Surgery "This medicine is poison pure and simple. Had a total knee replacement 2 months ago and developed more clots in my right calf. Taken off plavix for recently placed heart stent and put on Eliquis 2.5 mg morning and night. Yes I do have hemmorhoids which can bleed (exacerbated by blood thinners) but not as bad as the rectal bleed I experienced 1 hour ago. I am so alarmed that I will pray and continue to take 81mg aspirin until I can talk to doctor on Monday. The manufacturers of this med deliberately tried to deceive FDA regarding clinical trials results. And yes doctors ARE paid to prescribe this poison over other similar drugs."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis "Yes so far I haven't had any bleeding experiences nor have I had any further complications from my DVT. However my leg pain and swelling are still present and I've had a headache the entire time. I also just feel like my body hurts and my mouth hurts quite noticeably gums swollen, but its kept me from dying due to pulmonary embolism but I do not like this medicine would rather be on warfarin or heparin because I have taken them before and didn't experience these side affects"

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I have afib and have had multiple cardioversions, ablation, and antiarrythmic drugs and cannot stay in sinus rhythm. I was on coumadin for a while but had large swings in INR despite frequent monitoring and no change in diet. I have been on Eliquis for 3 years and have had no bleeding or side effects. Other than the fact that it is expensive and must be dosed twice daily, I have no complaints whatsoever."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "On March 10th I went to the ER due to calf pain following a surgical procedure on March 3rd. Was informed I had no DVT but did have three small blood clots In my lungs. I was sent home on Xerelto. After a week clots were gone. The doctor switched me to Eliquis 5 mg twice daily. Two weeks in I started having horrible bloating, gastritis, horrible GERD, muscle weakness, and horrible hot flashes. I'm on a 3-month treatment. I Have been told that these side effects are not from this med. I don't believe that as I've never felt like this before. I'm fatigued every day, before this, I was an active guy. Now I'm exhausted after walking up 8 stairs. I can't wait to be done with this medication. I've been to the ER several times due to severe shortness of breath, only to be told it's GERD and that I'm fine. I'm trying to make it through until June then I'll be done."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was diagnosed with a Deep Vein Thrombosis this past summer in my lower calf muscle. No injury to the area so it was labeled an unprovoked event. I started taken Eliquis at 10 mg twice a day for 7 days and then 5 mg twice a day until last week. I am waiting for the doctors consultation about the results of the last ultrasound. There was a gradual increase in side effects severity. My blood pressure spiked from low 90's-100's to 150 last week. My heartbeat is steady at low 60's per minute but pounds in the chest. My muscle and joint pain has stopped my exercising as it causes me to limp for days, and minor use of the arms causes rib cartilage and sternum pain. Constipation followed by diarrhea is on a 1-3 day cycle now. The anxiety started out rare to now almost a daily occurrence. The answer I got to these concerns last week from the doctors was to keep taking my full dose pill or die from a heart attack or stroke. The doctors don't seem to listen to the patients."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Venous Thromboembolism "I've been using Eliquis for a month now and it is horrible .I have tremors, headache, a lot gas, body pain and joint pain. I take it for prevention of DVT. If Dr don't find other way to treat me I'll just have to change Dr because Eliquis side effects are bad and they won't change it to something else. I think the Dr gets paid extra for prescribing this medicine because he is to obsessed with give me this garbage."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "My experience with Eliquis was AMAZING! I had no side effects whatsoever. I switched to Eliquis from Xarelto. On Xarelto, after 3 weeks I was in so much pain from head to toe, a deep arthritis type of pain and such severely deep menstruation even though I had started menopause 6 months before starting on Xarelto. I'm so thankful for Eliquis!"

Eliquis (apixaban) for Venous Thromboembolism "My wife was perscribed Eliquis. It's very expensive $526 for a months perscription in our case. We don't have perscription coverage so had to pay full price. Called Eliquis to see if they could help but since we don't have perscription policy they said no help and had to pay full price. After she took three tablets the bleeding started from her rectum and the doctor advised us to stop the Eliquis. What a waste of money when it is taking everything we have to keep up with her cancer care for her remaining few weeks."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I recently started Eliquis (brand) as my doctor wants to do a cardioversion in hopes of getting my heart back into a normal rhythm. You need to be on a blood thinner prior to, and after, this procedure. Because of my past experiences with side effects, I quartered a few of the 5mg tablets and took one quarter (1.25mg) on each of the first two days. On the third day, I took two 1.25mg doses of Eliquis, twelve hrs apart, for a daily total of 2.5mg. Within 30 min after taking the second 1.25 dose, I began to feel a continuous internal tremor that lasted for 5 hrs.-no pain, no external tremor, no feeling ill. I am afraid to increase the dosage to reach the prescribed 5mg x 2/daily. HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS SIDE EFFECT??"

Eliquis (apixaban) for Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I've been on Eliquis for more than 5 years [5mg twice a fay]. Worst medication devised by mankind! From bruises to discolored skin, and painful skin to the touch. If anyone including myself touches my skin, it causes me pain. My cardiologist says the benefits outweigh the side effects. Maybe he'll end up on it some day, and then if I'm still alive he can get in touch with me with his experiences."

Eliquis (apixaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I had back surgery March 17. 2020. I started having a lot of pain in my right calf area. I was told it was probably a blood clot due to back surgery, but the surgeon set up an ultrasound later that same day. Started Eliquis the next day. 5 mg x 2 times daily. I was on Eliquis for 3 months. After the first week took only one 5 mg. The blood clot had dissolved. About the second week taking Eliquis, I developed a dark brown tongue, stomach issues and very weak. Still to this day I have pain in my stomach. Vomiting and belching. I have had several Doctors visits as well as ER visits and still to this day feel like crap. Next have to go to gastroenterologist. The money I have spent is unreal. My advice is to stay away from this stuff."
