Sitavig (acyclovir) for Cold Sores "I get cold sores about every other month. I went to my Dermatologist and she gave a prescription for Sitavig. It sticks on your gum which is weird and takes getting used to, but she told me it is supposed to make you have fewer outbreaks. Sure enough, I went 5 months before my next one. When I saw her next I did complain that it took long time to dissolve. She said that was part of what made it work so well. Not sure how, but I will never go back to using my valtrex."

For Herpes Simplex "I suddenly keep getn these horrible cold sores like I was slit with a razor outside in like half inch splits that sting so bad n a couple times I've gotten a single sore down unda that hurts n is red. I go as long as I can bare it n sometimes it goes away on its own quickly but wen It doesn't I take one of my sisters acyclovir's a day n 9times outa 10 it goes away within a few days. I now take lysine with my daily vitamins. U cant just take vitamins wen u need em u gota take em daily so wen u get sick or watever they've already built up in ur system. I skipped a few days last week n i already got 2cold sores. Abreva only works if u use it at the 1st sign of a cold sore, once the sores there it will not work n that's a big waist of money"

For Herpes Zoster "So far after one pill, and 34 more to go (5 a day) it feels like the needles are still stabbing me in the upper back. I'm 46 and I had my first outbreak of shingles when I was 17. I had the full blown blisters and all - Knives was the feeling then. The Doc just changed my script from Famvir to this Acyclovir I hope it will work the same. Mine are 800mg 5 times a day and they gave me three refills. They don't know what to do with me."

For Herpes Simplex "I've had outbreaks on my lips for over 25 years. At the age of 30 I'm told to try taking a pill at the first sign, only couldn't find a doctor to prescribe me any until AFTER I broke out so they could SEE I actually had one. Finally I found a doctor and now I take 200 mg every third night and a full 400 mg if I even think I'm getting a sore. So far so good, no outbreaks in 3 years. Love it. No side effects either!"

For Cold Sores "My experience is that I have had cold sores ONLY on my lips from age 6 to 35. I agreed to a 1st date...bam! I felt it. That is the key; take meds once 1st felt. I have no medical knowledge except I know what my body tolerates and what has been successful which may not be your best bet but be safe careful and consult you Dr b4 any treatment plan. 1. break up your pills in half for immediate absorbtion take 800mg every 2 hours to slam your system to alert it there's an issue and send in a 2nd round of 800 within 1st 4 hours 2. continue 800 for 2 days every 4 hours 3. apply Abreva or similar product on the sore at first sensation, while taking the meds so you are attacking the infection from inside (meds) and externally (creme on sore) 4 days"

For Herpes Simplex, Mucocutaneous/Immunocompromised Host "My daughter is 5 years old & has a primary immunodeficiency (natural killer cell deficiency). When she takes this medicine for the treatment of her HSV (oral), her chronic HSV is less severe, and although new ones do form, they fade away very quickly and at some points, her face is clear. She has taken it for as long as 5 weeks at a time and will begin taking prophylactic doses of this medication (long term) by next month. We (my husband and myself) believe that her initial outbreak of HSV was caused by the Varicella vaccine. Later blood tests revealed her immunodeficiency."

For Herpes Zoster "I have been taking acyclovir 800 mg 5 times per day for 8 days for shingles (2 days more to go.) I had a headache and nausea for the first couple of days taking this. The headache went away but I still feel nauseated most of the time. I am also lightheaded, and the dizziness increases when I walk around at all. I feel very fatigued. Sometimes I have felt really agitated, like I wanted to crawl out of my skin. It has caused frequent bowel movements and some diarrhea. Between the shingles pain and the side effects, I am nearly housebound. I've been sick for a month (the rash didn't appear for 3 weeks.) I'm at the end of my rope and can not wait to get off this drug. I had shingles 8 months ago and couldn't tolerate the valacyclovir then - now that it's returned my doctor insists I must take this to get the virus out of my system. I pray that it works. I am 64 and small build (110 pounds.) I do tend to be sensitive to drug side effects."

For Herpes Simplex "I'm 25 and I've always had cold sores in my mouth since I was 4 and it can happen with sun or eating citrus. It's only getting worse now that I have braces so my Orthodontist told me about this pill and my doctor gave it to me and I love it EXCEPT I get a headache, fatigue, dizziness and joint pain...but it's totally worth it!"

For Cold Sores "I've suffered with cold sores since I was about 6 years old, I am now 18 and when I was going through my final year of high school I had at least 1 cold sore a month because of the stress of things so I was prescribed acyclovir. I was told to take 2 a day for 3 months and then take a break and it dramatically improved my cold sores. They barely appeared but when they did they were half as big as usual and they healed within about 4 days. Now I only take acyclovir when I feel a cold sore coming on and it is honestly the best thing that I have used to help."

For Herpes Zoster "The acyclovir from Camber Drug Co. and shaped like a stop sign don't work very well. The last ones I had from another company worked just fine. But now I feel like I'm on the start of a big flair. Been taking this stop sign pill shaped pill for 3 weeks. It fails to do what it should do."

Sitavig (acyclovir) for Cold Sores "I am a Derm nurse. I used the coupon, got mine free plus got samples from office. If you use it at first sign of a flare it's great. It is kind of messy and I had white medicine on my teeth. 1 pill better than taking Valtrex up to 5 days."

Sitavig (acyclovir) for Cold Sores "I have had about four cold sores a year throughout my teens and through my twenties. My dentist had a Sitavig poster in his office and gave me a prescription when I asked about it. I got a cold sore over 4th of July while at the beach and quickly applied Sitavig. I didn't have any issues with tablet in my gum and was still able to eat and drink throughout the day. Best part was I didn't get a blister and haven't had one since. Copay for two tablets was $35 which I thought was fair for two treatments."

For Cold Sores "I use this drug for the occasional cold sore that I get on and/or around my mouth. I live in Mexico and found this drug over the counter. Super sad to hear the cream costs $200 !! Here a 5g tube and 50 tabs of 400 mg tablets cost me a whopping $7 USD. I have a few different tubes so I can have it available if I ever feel a tingle. And since it’s so cheap if I see even a stranger with a cold sore I offer it to them. It is a miracle worker for me. If I am fortunate enough to catch it in time to take a pill it rarely goes to a full blister. And if it does it is contained to a very slight bump. For me it also relieves any discomfort."

For Herpes Zoster "I had an out break and I let it go for 3 days and I came to know that is SHINGLES My clinic diagnosis confirmed I was adviced to take acyclovir for a period of 10 days (400mg) five times a day. Even though the blisters were out I am getting that shooting pain 4 to 5 times a day a burning sensation and as if I am attacked with 1000 sharp needles in one time and this pain in my skin frustruates me for the last 8 days. For Herpes Simplex "I started with feeling like I had a cut in my genitial area at first, was tested at urgent care for herpes (doctor said it doesn't look like herpes) he came back telling me I had herpes two days later, I was then explained I have genital herpes, went to my gyn and was told I don't have genital herpes but herpes simplex. I was prescribed this drug and have never had an outbreak on my mouth before and so far I have had three oral outbreaks while taking 400mg twice daily. Within 23 days of use....? I want to try taking 400mg in the morning and 800mg at night now because this is not helping me. Haven't had any breakouts anywhere else though. Now bf has a cold sore as well. I need more than this."

For Herpes Simplex "This is the only thing that works for myself stress induced break outs (college). I use both the pills and the cream. I believe when I first started using acyclovir it was more effective and now it can take a good 4-5 days to fully heal. This is nothing in comparison to a cold sore that lasted a month without the meds though! 400mg. Free with my healthcare for the pills, the cream was $25."

For Cold Sores "I felt a fever blister (cold sore) coming on so I began 400 mg of acyclovir 3 times a day . After the second day I experienced a headache that was very uncomfortable. My early cold sore did not progress into an unsightly and painful sore. I am treating the headache with 500 mg Tylenol once a day ."

For Cold Sores "I started getting cold sores about 6 years ago after drinking out a glass at work (that clearly hadn’t been washed properly). I get cold sores really bad, they are huge and make my lips swell. I have used every type of product on the market but it would take 3 weeks for them to go and it would leave a scar. I finally contacted my doctor after being fed up of getting them every few months. The doctor gave my a repeat prescription of Acyclovir to be taken on the onset of a cold sore 5 times a day for 5 days. Within one day my cold sore starts healing, without that painful bleeding stage. It’s so effective and really helps to reduce the impact on my life it previously had! Would highly recommend to anyone who struggles with large and frequent cold sores!"

For Herpes Simplex "When using oral and cream at onset gets rid of them fast. But remember this oral stuff really bad on the liver. If outbreaks are like a few times a year not to worry. If down in Mexico can get for a fraction of the cost then in the states."

For Herpes Simplex "Can anybody tell me how to deal with a red, swollen eye with blurred vision 5 days after stopping using Zovirax eye ointment. Could anybody also tell me how to stop falling asleep while taking aciclovir tablets. I find this drug debilitating and will go to see an optician about my virus."

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I've had fever blisters since I was a child. When I was a teenager I got fever blisters a lot. As I got older usually just in the summer. About 4 years ago I was getting them every other month. Dr put me on 400mg twice daily. Have not had any in the last year and a half. What a difference its made in my life!"

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I was diagnosed with herpes 5 years ago and my first outbreak was TERRIBLE. I could barely walk and cried the whole night in pain. I've been on acyclovir for about 4 years straight as I was having outbreaks every single month. Sometimes twice a month for an entire year. For the last 4 years I think I've only had two small outbreaks. I'm not coming off this medication any time soon that's for sure!!! Although I'm still praying for a cure!!!"

For Herpes Simplex "I went to the doctor today and they looked in the back of my throat. There were white irritated pockets in it. There were sores on my upper lip, on my bottom lip and roof of my mouth. Of course I thought it was STREP THROAT, so the doctor gave me a strep test and it came back negative. He said it was a form of herpes. A viral canker sore infection. So he prescribed me ACYCLOVIR 200MG. I take 2 capsules 3 times a day for 5 days and it should clear it up."

For Herpes Zoster "I took Acyclovir because of shingles, I had to take 800mg 5x a day for 7 days. On the first day I was okay, second day I felt dizzy and a little nauseous, third day I had severe nausea! Which was horrible! Other symptoms included ....feeling spaced out , stomach cramping , headache , sweating when I was asleep. It’s better to finish the course which I managed to do ! Thank god! However it did clear my rash away"
