For Herpes Simplex "After trying A LOT of different things Acyclovir is definitely what you need to be taking ASAP. As soon as you feel any tingling at all. If you are unfortunate enough to have reached the weeping sores phase I found the only thing to soothe the pain was salt water with black tea. Pop a tea bag in with hot very salty water and cleanse your intimate area once cool enough. Sounds mad but you'll thank me after!"

Zovirax (acyclovir) for Herpes Simplex "Zovirax is my first choice for treatment of cold sores which I've had since I was a young girl. Using it in conjunction with Abreva helps promote healing from within the sores; and eliminates the crusty/scabbing that comes with cold sores. Abreva is best used at the first sign of any itching (that familiar feeling of onset) apply as directed on the bottle, and your cold sore will be gone without anyone noticing you even have one. I am just getting over one and with Abreva alone it took three days, no scabbing or crusty formation making it unsightly and causing embarrassment."

For Mononucleosis "My daughter was battling with what they said was tonsillitis. After 6 days and no improvement on antibiotics we went back to the doctor and they diagnosed her with mono after the finger prick test and sent us home with a lidocaine oral wash and nothing else. Her tonsils were extremely large with white spots all over them. She had a muffled voice and pain every time she swallowed. I have a prescription for acyclovir, and knowing that mono is the Epstein bar virus I gave her half a pill of 400mg. She went to sleep and miraculously woke up with zero white spots on her tonsils, and the inflammation went down enough that she could breathe from her nose, open her mouth to yawn without pain. It worked like a miracle I don’t know why the medical community doesn’t put two and two together and lets people suffer with EBV sometimes for months on end."

Zovirax (acyclovir) for Cold Sores "I get coldsores mainly in the summer, my symptoms start of with dry and itchy lips, and then they start to blister and swell, I recommend if you have the same symptoms as me then put the Zovirax on as SOON AS POSSIBLE! The cold sore feels much better as soon as it’s on, the healing begins straight away, the blister on the mouth begins to dry out so it may feel uncomfortable, because of this I also use Carmex Lip Balm to keep my lips moisturised. I use Zovirax every time I get a cold sore and they heal much faster, for me it’s max 4 days. Amazing product and definietely worth the money!"

Zovirax (acyclovir) for Herpes Simplex "I used to have cold sores all the time when I was a child, either when exposed to too much cold or when exposed to too much heat. Finally, I found a doctor who gave me a prescription (just a few years ago, I'm already an adult) and the Doctor prescribed Zovirax 200 mg 5x a day for 5 days. When I am able to take the medicine as soon as I feel the blister forming, the blister will only last for a day; it will grow and then burst and crust over within twenty four hours, so I've never really had to take the medication for more than 2-3 days. Very thankful for this medicine."

For Herpes Simplex "If you take it right at the start of an outbreak it works really well. The sores that have already formed will disappear in about a week and it will completely stop any other sores from forming after the first dose. The only issue is that it makes me feel really ill. I feel nauseated all day, have diarrhea and completely lose my appetite."

For Herpes Simplex "I love this medication. I've always used abreva but decided to get a prescription because abreva took forever to kick in. I recently had an outbreak because of stress at work. It started with one blister. I put the ointment and it went away in 24 hours with a minimal scab. I then had another outbreak 2 days after. This one also went away immediately with a minimal scab. The same weekend I got a bad outbreak where my lip swole up as well. I applied the ointment at night. The next day by 6pm the swelling was gone and the blisters became a tiny scab. I LOVE this ointment."

For Herpes Simplex "I have been on this pill now for three days after suffering an attack for almost a week, I am feeling much better. The tingling and itching have reduced. Anti itch medicated cream from the 99 cent store really helped with the itching. I am just a lil tired and feel a little achy. I will take that anytime than the feeling of this painful virus."

For Herpes Zoster "I had herpes zoster in April 2017, was prescribed acyclovir 400mg x2 with anti-allergic tabs for seven days and was cured although after-effects were felt for long. Interestingly, I also got rid of another medical condition that had been bothering me for more than a year prior to the herpes attack. After one year, symptoms of old problem (not herpes) developed again. I told doctor about the effect acyclovir tabs had on it a year ago. But the doctor laughed away my observations and prescribed other medicines. When I didn't get relief even after my third visit to her, she reluctantly prescribed acyclovir tabs. I was completely cured after eight days. Before going public with full details, I would like to share it with manufacturers of acyclovir tabs. They may like to initiate some more research on this wonderful drug and arrive at a definitive conclusion vis-a-vis my observations. I may offer myself for clinical trials, if necessary."

Zovirax (acyclovir) for Herpes Simplex "Been on Zovirax for 15 years. It barely worked when I started using it for genital outbreaks, absolutely does not work now. Three prescriptions of 800mg x 3 times per day has not slowed down or even put a dent in a 4 month long outbreak."

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "Acyclovir is a godsend-twice a day and the little bugger never shows up. Don’t stress so much about it. There are people today who’ve been diagnosed with far worse things other than what is effectively a cold sore on your privates. It won’t stop you doing anything, and as for sex, if you make it a rule to just tell anyone ‘by the way, I have the herpes virus’, you’ll usually find it changes nothing, and often they’ll tell you they have it too. Be safe everyone."

For Herpes Zoster "Discovered I had shingles after reading the Google medical journal lol. Started with mysterious left leg flu like feeling, and excruciating burning pain almost to tears on my left butt cheek. Then bumps on my butt. Decided to take monolaurin (dietary supplement) 3-3x/day for 2 days instead of going to dr. I had no pain and rash was going away. I caved and went to dr to get an Rx of an antiviral so I wouldn’t get post neuralgia. After taking for 2 days I now realize it’s messing with my head. It’s making me feel hopeless and no interest. I am going to discontinue and hope for the best. I will continue with Monolaurin as I think it helped stave off additional outbreaks."

For Herpes Simplex "Two days ago I found out I have genital herpes. This is the second day I've been taking Acyclovir. It's been working good so far. The stinging while urinating has gone away but not so much. I still have cold sores but hope that acyclovir gets rid of them. I'm praying that this works. "

For Herpes Simplex "I had a rash on my hand that my doctor thought (misdiagnosed) was the shingles. I was prescribed acyclovir and I had a severe allergic reaction. It turns out it was Dyshidrosis (pompholyx) blisters on your hands from stress. Chickenpox/shingles are viral, you do not need to take anything except pain medication. I suffered with hives all over my body the size of dinner plates, it felt like I was being burned alive. I was throwing up, lost weight and my skin/face began to show signs of jaundice. I thought I maybe fatal at one point, my skin began to thin to the point I was seeing the coloration of muscle underneath. I still have scars from it. I had these terrible hives for three months until I was given a steroid shot and montelukast. It was a terrible allergic reaction and this medication is known to cause Steven Johnsons Syndrome (SJS), google it because it is terrifying. The hives were gone in 24 hours after getting steroid shot. Do not take this medication, you could get SJS which can be the end of your life or ruin your life."

For Herpes Simplex "I have been taking Acyclovir for almost 2 years now. I believe it to work because I've only had 1 outbreak in the 2 years. I was given the option to take 200mg every 4 hours. (equals 5 a day) for 5 days when an outbreak occurs or to take everyday but I have only taken for the 1 outbreak."

For Herpes Simplex "Unfortunately my ex-boyfriend intentionally & knowingly gave me Herpes. The first breakout was horrible, I had to go to the Emergency room. They prescribed me Acyclovir 400 mg 4x daily. It definitely works and it works fast. I had no side effects at all. I always keep it on me and I am to take 200mg 5x daily if I start to have another breakout."

For Herpes Simplex "I'm 74 years old. First diagnosed 40 years ago so I've been using Zovirax and acyclovir cream a while. Both have been effective in eliminating or reducing outbreaks. Especially if applied at very first signs of oncoming event. I haven't had a cold sore in that time because I apply the cream when I feel any tingling or raised skin surface. Very little cream is needed to be effective but, several applications a day works best."

For Herpes Simplex "I was diagnosed with herpes this year after getting it from my partner. I had a fairly bad first outbreak on my inner labia and just presumed it to be from shaving but I went to a sexual health clinic and got diagnosed. This medicine has been so helpful anytime I have a tingling/throbbing sensation I take it and it works wonders. I’m currently taking it at the moment and the only real side effect I have is having a headache!"

For Herpes Simplex "I have had this for 10 years or longer and I wanted to let people know about Acyclovir and Valacyclovir and my experience with them both. I only read one review that mentioned this and it's on the Valacyclovir side of reviews from 2019. So I was first given acyclovir 200 mg 2 pills 3 times a day which I really never needed to take that many to clear up my symptoms . I didn't want to take that many if I didn't need them and become used to them, cause we all know how an outbreak can be. Fast forward to 6-2021 I went to my dr for a check-up on all meds and we discussed trying Valcyvlovir 500mg I thought why not its newer and supposed to last longer not having to take as many pills, I was all for it. Well if its not broke dont fix it, cause I had a flare up it didn't go away not near as good as with a dose of Acyclovir capsules. So I called and told the dr I wanted the Acyclovir back the other didn't work for me. So Beware newer or stronger is not always better."

Zovirax (acyclovir) for Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I have had a cold sore outbreak 1-2 x/year for last 15 years usually during summer months (lower lip). I had previously tried medicated lip applicators with little success. A friend suggested Zovirax. I use it now at the first sign of tingling or hardness in the lip. When I catch it early the severity of the outbreak has been greatly diminished. I only use for 2 days and the sore has usually healed in about 10 days to 2 weeks."

Sitavig (acyclovir) for Cold Sores "This medication is kind of cool. A tablet that can stick on your gums? My only complaint is that it takes a LONG time to dissolve- over 12 hours. If you've ever had braces, it's nothing, but just annoying especially when you try to eat, brush your teeth, or drink water. I'd recommend doing it right before bed if at all possible. Unfortunately, I took it a couple days after I got a cold sore since it's a prescription and you can't see most doctors immediately. I will say, I can tell the healing process happened quicker with this medication. The above comment is false, as several insurance companies will cover the majority of the cost. I paid $35 for two pills... (Not like that's cheap but definitely better than paying $300 or w/o insurance)."

For Cold Sores "I've never struggled with cold sores has much as I did the past week I started with one and it went away with aberva than the next morning I woke up with another one. It was so painful the aberva didn't work any house hold remedies I tried failed. It got the point where I couldn't take it anymore I went to the doctor and got the acyclovir ointment ( and I did take the pills as well just because the level of pain I had was horrible and to make sure it wouldn't spread) but the ointment does work very well I put in on 4-6 times the day got the ointment and the pain went away and it started to scab the next day. I 100% recommend this!"

For Herpes Simplex "Started taking this after an outbreak. Thought the first one was just irritation from a wax. Realized after that second time it happened that it was definitely herpes and triggered by bikini waxing. Now take this daily to suppress and have not had an outbreak since (over a year). Have found it definitely has caused me to have increased sweating at night, which is annoying, but otherwise no issues."

Sitavig (acyclovir) for Cold Sores "I took it to the pharmacy and I was told it was going to be $400. I called my dermatologist and they told me to use the rebate card and it should be $35. I went back to the pharmacy and sure enough after I insisted what the cost should be I got two tablets for $35. I have not had a cold sore in six months which is unusual because I usually get one every 2 to 3 months."
