"At 55 yrs, I have been an alcoholic all of my adult life. Drank copious amounts of vodka for 3 yrs, then attended rehab for 3 months. Plus, together with AA, stayed sober for 18 yrs. Then, 3 yrs ago, picked up again due to family stress and found it impossible to get sober again, even with the help of AA. Found out about Acamprosate from a drop-in center, have been taking this incredible drug for 2 weeks now and have absolutely no desire to drink whatsoever. I have even given up smoking at the same time. From someone who consumed anywhere from a half to a full bottle of vodka and 20-40 cigarettes on a daily basis. I have a whole new life thanks to this drug...thank you, Acamprosate. Happy, happy, happy."

Campral (acamprosate) "Been a heavy drinker for over 6 years since a major operation that left me addicted to morphine. Replaced morphine with beer and wine every day. From day one of taking Campral, all my cravings went away. I just don't feel like a drink anymore."

Campral (acamprosate) "This is my second week only on Campral, and since yesterday I don’t feel like drinking. I have no urge. I know it's early days, but I have been drinking since I was 15. Now I’m 64, and the last three years I have been drinking close to 16 L of red wine. I’m so happy. I hope it continues. I will update again soon."

Campral (acamprosate) "Heavy drinker every night for about 5 years - bottle of vodka or a couple of bottles of wine. Done myself a lot of injuries nearly lost my job so I have just started this drug only 2 days ago so still feel anxious at night, when I would usually drink so trying to find hobbies and interests to fill my mind instead. I was inspired by everyone's comments here so wish me luck."

Campral (acamprosate) "I had relapsed 4-5 times after my first serious attempt to stop drinking. After starting Campral, I have 7 months sober. I read these comments before starting, and I’m glad I did. It’s working, I can walk into a liquor store and buy a soda! Cravings only appear during high stress, and they’re easier to fight now. They should try this on every alcoholic!"

Campral (acamprosate) "I was a very heavy drinker from 6 a.m. 'til lights out every day, week, month, year for the last 10 years. I had never driven my cars at night because I was always drunk. I drank approximately 7,300 beers last year alone (20 a day). I wanted to get off the merry-go-round, so I went to my local doctor and told him my plans and fears. He prescribed Campral. The instructions were NOT to consume alcohol while taking the medicine. Well, I was drunk, so on Saturday night I took the first 3 pills. The next morning, I woke up and thought about having a beer after coffee but seemed okay not having one. That was 2 weeks ago, and I still have not had a beer. Brilliant medicine. I quit smoking 2 days later. Campral seems to help with that as well."

Campral (acamprosate) "55-year-old. Drinking heavily for fifteen years. Tried Campral for three months. OK to begin with, but as it built up in my system, it completely numbed all of my senses. I am normally an upbeat, happy person, but it made me feel down all the time, tired, couldn't be bothered doing anything, lost interest in friends and family, memory loss to the point where I'd be having a conversation and couldn't recall words. And probably the most embarrassing symptom was that the muscle relaxant effect made me wet the bed twice, which I have never done before (not alcohol-induced). On researching this, I saw that it is a common side effect but largely goes unreported for obvious reasons. It did, however, reduce my drinking, mainly because I was spaced out and zombified on Campral and didn't need further intoxication."

"I went to 4 rehabs of the ‘best’ rehabs in the nation-Betty Ford, Hazelden, Father Martin Ashley. Relapsed every time I got home. I felt extremely low and depressed. WTH couldn’t I stay sober! I was headed back for a wonderful 5th visit and decided to give Campral a go since I had some Campral lying around. I was astounded. The desire to drink simply disappeared. That angry itch that once demanded to be scratched was non-existent. I didn’t go to the rehab and just stayed sober. I attend meetings just to be around other people who struggle, but in the past, meetings didn’t stop the endless longing to drink. For meetings make the desire worse since all they talk about is drinking! This medication liberated me from the constant obsession of booze. As someone who has spent over 100k trying to sober up, I urge you to give this medication a shot if you are struggling. It is not a placebo in any sense. Thanks for letting me share."

Campral (acamprosate) "My partner has been on Campral for the past 2 weeks, 6 tablets a day (doctor's orders) and I don't even recognize him! After 24 years of drinking every day, he hasn't had a drink since he started (that I know of), but he is really trying. I see how hard it is, and I am just seeing it from an outsider's view. I don't feel the pain. But alcohol doesn't just affect the person drinking. Everyone around you is affected, and you don't realize what it does to your family, friends, and the things you have lost! But I would like to wish everyone luck and congratulate all those who haven't had a drink or have seriously cut down! I know it has saved my partner's life."

Campral (acamprosate) "I am now on day 5 of Acamprosate. The first two days I felt amazing. Especially on the first day, taking the tablets gave me such a hyper rush. Same on the second day, and I had no cravings whatsoever, even sat with my flatmates who were drinking and had no desire to drink at all. I was elated. Until it came to the 3rd day, and I spent half the day itching for a drink until I got home, ate lots of junk food, and had my tablets-then I felt fine again. But on the 4th day, no amount of junk food, squash, or taking my tablets... I itched for a drink up until I fell asleep. Has anyone else experienced this? I notice about 5 minutes after I take the tablet, I feel really high and hyper, it then wears off until I take my next dosage again."

"Acamprosate is exceptional for alcohol issues in its effectiveness and lack of side effects. I'm only 3 months in, but my goal was Christmas Day, yet here we are past that date, and I'm looking forward to reaching the 1-year mark. Yes, it does take some willpower, but hardly any in comparison to going cold turkey. Gives you the strength to not want to have to face day one ever again. It's easy, you take these pills 3 times a day, and no longer are you a slave to the poison. The first 8 days are tough because you feel as if, with every time you sober up, you're missing out. The next 8 days, you note small mental changes. 1 month equals no more explaining to friends, as they all now know. The second month takes time, but with a few challenges passed with ease, you start to feel exceptional. Month 3, well, it's been great as everyone around me still gets sloshed, and I'm happy for them with no regrets or feelings of being a wowser. Stoked to be free of the dependency it commanded. I want this drug to be advertised to the world, it's the ultimate."

Campral (acamprosate) "I'd been drinking for years, and it got very heavy in the last two years, and worse so in the last 6 months. I failed with Antabuse, and the doctor switched me just this week to this drug. It's been amazing. I went for a few social beers that were planned, but I couldn't be bothered with drinking. I would normally have drank until I blacked out, but I barely had any urge to drink anything. I had beers in the fridge, and normally I would have drank them also after getting home. I woke up, they were untouched, and I just poured them down the sink. It works!!"

Campral (acamprosate) "Apart from a few years where I switched to speed, I've been a binge drinker for over 20 years. Recently, the binges have been more frequent and lasting longer. After the truly awful withdrawal symptoms subsided, I'd last a few days at most before beer started calling my name again. As the saying goes, I got sick and tired of being sick and tired. I discovered Campral by accident, and it's as close to a miracle as you can get. I'm amazed. That voice inside my head is finally silent!"

Campral (acamprosate) "I was a very heavy drinker for over 20 years, drinking over a fifth a day. I read a book called The Alcohol and Addiction Cure, given to me by my father. I then started seeing a psychologist for several months before entering detox for 4 days. When I left, they gave me a prescription for Campral. I did not enter a program. I did go to AA meetings quite a bit for about a year and still go occasionally, although I never went through the steps. I took the Campral for about 6 or 7 months. I believe it helped, but I think it was everything combined that helped me. I have been sober since July 11, 2009. Good luck."

Campral (acamprosate) "Drank for thirty years, lost everything, struggled with benders for past 2 years after rehab, no hope. 3 months post Campral. 333mg per day. The only time I think about taking a drink is when I am thinking that I am not thinking of taking a drink. Truly feel it has had an anti-depressant effect for me. Sleep great and the only side effect is an occasional dizziness. Tell everyone you know struggling."

Campral (acamprosate) "I fell into drinking heavily after receiving gastric bypass surgery. I guess since I wasn't able to use my drug of choice (food), I began to drink heavily. At first vodka and tequila, then two to three bottles of wine every night after work. I started on Campral 4 months and 3 days ago, and I am back to the old me. I feel great. I still think about it from time to time, but it doesn't last. I have been to parties of all kinds where everyone is drinking, and it does not bother me one bit. I wonder why it's not advertised that much. This medication is GREAT. Thank goodness."

Campral (acamprosate) "Thank God for this medication. Campral really does work and I feel like I have my life back. For me, it has completely taken away the urge to drink, which is really saying something for a guy that drank every day for as long as I can remember. It still takes willpower and a commitment to quit, but Campral is the help I desperately needed. If you have a problem, please see your doctor and ask him or her about this."

Campral (acamprosate) "I drank for over 30 years until my psychiatrist recommended Campral. What a godsend. I lost my desire for alcohol within a few months but remained on the drug for over a year. I decided on my own to stop the drug and have not drunk any alcohol for well over three years. In my view, this is an amazing drug, and of course, I am grateful beyond words for it."

Campral (acamprosate) "My boyfriend is an alcoholic. He has been to treatment multiple times. He has suffered innumerable consequences. For the last year, I have been on the roller coaster of trying to find a way to be understanding and so on. It's been so, so, so hard. For the past month, he has been taking this, and so far, it's been amazing! No drinking. He says his cravings are drastically reduced. His libido has taken a hit, but I'll take that over living with an active alcoholic any day."

Campral (acamprosate) "I just started Campral today. My doctor prescribed it, but after a week of waiting for my insurance to cover, I finally called them, and they said they would not cover 'maintenance med.' Two years ago, I put myself in rehab, and they paid $10,000.00, but they won't cover this. I went and got a week's worth, $75.00."

Campral (acamprosate) "I started taking Campral while in a treatment facility. I was unable to tolerate naltrexone. Although both addicted to alcohol and opioids, the Campral is only used for alcohol dependence, but this drug is nothing but amazing. I have no cravings! I take 666 mg three times per day. Started on 333 mg. I think this drug is best in combination with cognitive behavioral therapy and a program such as AA or NA. You have to want to deal with the addiction. Nothing is a 'magic bullet.' I highly recommend this medication."

Campral (acamprosate) "I had been a bad binge drinker for the last nine years, going on benders ranging from 5 days to, at worst, 2 and a half weeks. I could remain abstinent for anything from 1 month to 8 months but always relapsed eventually. After 4 hospital detoxes, countless home ones, and very heavy drinking, I had a warning that my liver had an early stage of cirrhosis, so that scared me enough to try Campral. I take 6 a day and have been on it for a month now, experiencing complete abstinence. Generally, I feel marvelous with no cravings or thoughts. So far, so good. I'm sleeping great and feel calm and more balanced."

Campral (acamprosate) "I just turned 48 and have been drinking for over 35 years. Over the past 30 years, I have drunk every day probably only going without a nightly drink 10 times per year. I tried Naltrexone twice, the first time it worked the second time my body didn’t recognise it. 30 days ago I started taking Campral, 2 tabs 3 times a day. I have now stopped drinking. Amazing drug."

As an added bonus, it has also allowed me to stop smoking, as drinking was my trigger for having a puff. I have nothing but praise for this wonderful aid. I feel reset, like I am a kid again, and I am 48 years old."
