Adderall Dosage for ADHD
In general, the dosage of Adderall should not be more than 40 mg per day total. The first dose of the day should be taken first thing in the morning. If taking Adderall two or three times a day, the next doses should be given after four to six hours.
Adderall Dosage for Narcolepsy
The dosage of Adderall for adults with narcolepsy is usually 5 mg to 60 mg per day (divided up into two or three doses). For people 12 and older, the starting dose of Adderall for narcolepsy is 10 mg daily (increased by 10 mg per week if needed).
For more details it is recommended to talk to the doc./pharmacist who prescribed the med, take care, be well & safe!

I'm currently taking generic for adderall xr (for narcolepsy). Since losing my prescription coverage, could not afford the brand adderall xr. However, I took it for years. The maximum dose approved by FDA law, is 120mg per day. That is the dosage I take, as my narcolepsy is severe. The pharmacist is required by law, to contact your physician by phone to confirm the accuracy of the script, as well as the physicians dea#. They will not fill the script, until they've personally spoken to the doctor on the phone.
When Shire Pharmaceuticals stopped their Patient Assistance program for adderall xr, it changed my quality of life. (The cost would have been $900 per mth for my script). I have no energy and unable to complete daily tasks, most of the time. Generic drugs are not as effective as brand!
Well I hope that answered your question. Have a great day!

I had thought it was 40mg, but apparently 120mg from one of the other responses. I've been taking 40mg a day along with 80mg Celexa (GAD/Depression) for about a week and haven't noticed a thing.I should say I've been taking the Celexa for about a month, and the Adderall 40mg is a new addition. Still, no effects from either - seems odd.
However, each patient is different.

The answer is not more adderall. I am a 28 year old 215lb male and am on 20mg IR twice a day. Your body will build up a tolerance which will not only require you to take more but change the "feeling" of taking it as well. There is little evidence to support your body benefiting from more than 20mg IR in a single dose (about 40 mg XR.) You have built up a high tolerance. You need to reduce your tolerance through several steps.
Please read the entire post, I promise it will help you.
First, you need to get a in depth heart exam to make sure you are healthy enough for that much amphetamine.
Here are some things that will greatly help your adderall be most effective:
Stay hydrated- A hydrated body will always work better since it's vital to maintain a certain level of water in our body due to it's high water composition %. If you are dehydrated your medication will be less or even adversely effective.
This is an old post I know but wanted to talk to you since I've come to see your right on your advise cause I've learned all your saying by experience but was gonna ask a question

I also see this thread is older. But for anyone who may be linked here, I too have been on 120mg XR throughout the day and as far as I know the max dose is 120mg XR. I'm like the one first posting on 120mgs, severely narcoleptic w/mild cataplexy diagnosed about 12-14 mo ago.I'm 32 now and I've been healthy (gymnast for 10yrs), I have one 4 year old son and, well nothing amazing or out of the ordinary (let me say in my world my son has hung the moon, I only mean that in "relevance") I have zero hereditary ties to Narcolepsy, not even a child to a 2nd cousin (thank god, but my list is checked). My pain management docs (arthritis in lower facet joints since 18-19) were seemingly always doing labs and I know a lupus lab was ordered on 3 diff occasions. Well that's figured out and it doesn't matter I won't take opioids unless right out of surgery anyhow.
Yes, that is true that is the highest dose available for both adderall xr and adderall. It is good that you are cautious, however if you were prescribed it from a doctor who asked you some questions and talked with you for a while, I would give it a try. If your asking about it, seeing a doctor, etc; than you probably have reasonable cause for this drug to be beneficial to you. If your studying at your friends house and your tired, so he/she offers you an adderall, than thats a different story.

i know this is really old, but it appears that my experience with maximum dosing does not match anyone elses. i have been prescribed 510mg of adderall a day, although it was a bit too much so i had my shrink adjust it. Ended up settling in at 450mg per day(16x30mg). i have been on that dose for 5 years. although, i have to fill at the same pharmacy due to quanity,as well as the police have called me to warn me that they were watching me. i know u all think my doctor must be a quack. However, he is one of three specialists in adults with ADD in the world, and is very well respected in the add community. He is however hella expensive and he doesnt accept insurance. Did i mention he was expensive.
I am a pharmacist and I own my own pharmacy. What you are saying seems impossible to me. If you brought me that script I would have turned you away. I am surprised what ever pharmacy is filling that prescription for dose not have the DEA down their throat and that is a head ache no one wants. I honestly don't know how your body handles that amount of amphetamines. I am surprised your heart has not exploded/imploded.
I understand your feelings. However it is what it is. I fill at a pharmacy in Loveland, CO that is affiliated with the local Hospital. (It is located across the street from the Hospital) Yes like I said, two different pharmacy's have turned me away and called the local police on me. I always have to take my medical records down to the station. Hence the reason that I only go to one pharmacy. Well that and other pharmacies never have enough. Mark (the head pharmacist) special orders it for me. You would think I would be all skinny sucked up. In contrast, I am 5'4" and 220lbs. Also I noticed a typo it is 15x30mg not 16x30mg, sorry for the misinformation.

Adderall Dosage for Narcolepsy

I suffer from Narcolepsy and my insurance will now not approve Adderall because it is not an approved medication by the FDA as treatment for Narcolepsy even though I have been on it for years. I contacted the FDA and they confirmed this and I am trying to find some documentation that states Adderall is used to treat Narcolepsy so I can appeal the insurance company's decision.
