Ciprofloxacin Questions

I was diagnosed with diverticulitis yesterday and was given metronidazole and ciprofloxacin?

in pill form and i cannot get these pills down at all and i was wondering if there was any other forms of the meds and also what could happen if i just dont take them at all?
