Hi Aquarius 11. Be very careful with lorazepam like Masso said. I went thru hell and doctor never told me it was addictive and kept me on it for 8 years , raising the dosage and became very ill. He did know how to detox me and stopped refills. My pharmacist helped me detox for 6 months and I been off for 5 years and days still have withdrawals. I was told by new doctor it was for panic attacks and anxiety. I will never take another benzodiazepine medication . Ask doctor for something to sleep, no benzos. I have never taken any street drugs and only prescribed drugs for high blood pressure. I do take hydroxyzine 25 mg now for sleep prescribed by doctor .Good Luck and be careful .

Benzodiazepines such as Lorazepam usually are prescribed short term. They can be very addictive and there are other medications that can help you without getting addicted to, like Mirtazapine or Trazodone.

Mirtazapine is used off label for insomnia due to it´s sedative properties same thing with Trazodone.

Coming off of Lorazepam can be a nightmare due to its withdrawal symptoms.

I have tried mirt and trazodone but they give me dry eyes. It helps me a lot but it has terrible side effects. Any recommendations besides lorazepam? I am afraid of the side effects and withdrawal.
