I've only started trazodone a few weeks ago, but I did a pile of research first.
Last night I slept 11 hours. Amazing.
The side effects have been minimal, noticeably less than Clonazepam.
My Doc wants to get me off of it within a year and, yes, the tapering down might be a little bumpy.
Hi, Aquarius!
From the literature at NHS:
"Trazodone is safe to take for a long time. There do not seem to be any lasting harmful effects from taking it for many months, or even years. Some people need to take trazodone long term to treat depression or anxiety that keeps coming back."
"Sometimes antidepressants can "poop out" after long term use but usually not for years and are effective for most people for the duration of treatment."
Hope this helps answer your questions. If you have other concerns just post again, okay?
Best regards,
Wildcat
PS, Trazodone is often prescribed for insomnia because one of it's main side effects is causing drowsiness/sleepiness. This affects about 50% of users.
