I recently had laproscopic surgery on a hernia and I am currently taking docusate and i have had a bowel movement but my belly seems to be still hard

If you have already had a bowel motion it means that the ducosate has started working (I don't know how long ago you took it related to writing this message) ... the effect definitely lasts for several hours. So it just doesn't finish with the one bowel movement. If you belly was till hard it you may have had a motion later as well. However, it may just be due to the operation. If you don't have abdominal pain, etc. it should be okay.
