Or bipolar? I have treatment resistant MDD and anxiety and was prescribed the Latuda. I am feeling very irritable and more anxious ... on 10 mg. Any thoughts ?
Anyone take Latuda in addition to Effexor or any antidepressant and you are not schizophrenic?

I was on effexor for 25 yrs I think. Last 2 years I went in a downhill spin of depression to the point of doin myself in. My doctor at the time seem like he wasn't a bit interested I was able to finally find another doctor and she put me on Latuda within three or four days I started feeling so much better I started weaning myself from the Effexor with my now doctors help .I'm down to one now every other day this may me my last week of it I'm a firm believer in their Latuda I'm also bipolar and manic depression that was just my input on your question I certainly hope you got a medicine at work I feel for you because being like this is no fun but now I feel like I think I feel like everybody else feels good I'm finally starting to enjoy life praise God

Are you still on Effexor? Maybe consider coming off of it. I was on it since 2016 Started having terrible anxiety like all day long for over a year. Have been very depressed also. Kept complaining to my doctor and she prescribed me Latuda a couple of weeks ago. I never did take it because I am allergic to it. Therefore I lost all confidence in my doctor for overlooking this and stopped taking the Effexor. Almost instantly (2 days) the anxiety got better and then stopped. I do not recommend that you just stop a medication without a doctor helping you. I was desperate and am currently searching for another doctor. Plus everyone is different. I would appreciate hearing about your experience with Effexor and how you are doing today.

Hi ... I stopped Effexor quite a while ago . I have been in 18 different medications . This depression has. Ow lasted three years with no relief . I am tapering off the latest meds I was taking , Paxil and lamictal and having terrible withdrawals. Also have to come off Ativan which i have been on everyday at 2 mg for three years . Sorry I can’t be more encouraging. Wish I knew what to do next .

Yes, I was also very nervous about starting Latuda @ 20mgs for Anxiety/ Panic & Depression... it’s also used off label for sleep ( insomnia) as well... But very widely used for anxiety & depression beyond the scope of Bipolar & it’s FDA indications...
Clinical practice allows use for what ( WORKS) This medication is really incredible for depression, anxiety & trouble with sleep as it’s hitting all those brain receptors more than any other Drug in its class ...
please give it a shot if your doctor thinks you should try it...
I’m really impressed with how quickly & how much it’s helping me !

Thank you for this answer Maria . I am thinking about stopping the Latuda because I have gained 40 pounds since being on it in less than 3 months time . Did you have any problem with weight gain and are you on any medication besides Latuda ?

If you’re experiencing significant weight gain that’s not a benefit of course but there are ways to curb it now ... and stay on this med ... plz let me know !!

I have raised my Latuda from 10 to 20 a few days ago and I seem to be experiencing worse anxiety, ruminating and just bad irritability. Is this typical ? I don’t remember from when I first went on it .

I would let your MD know, but yes anxiety is very common with this medication & it should pass ... Are you taking anything like propranolol or Ativan still?
That should help with the anxiety...
but this side effects are normal and do pass , but call your doc let them know ...
I’m taking 20mgs ... at first I had some anxiety and rumination, it passed in about 5-7 days ... than I started to feel great !

Did you also have a worsening of your depression as well ? And again , you wer prescribed this for MDD with anxiety and you don’t have bipolar or schizophrenia ? Do you also take an antidepressant ? He also has me in Effexor and Ativan. And yes, I discuss pretty much everything with him because my ruminating is so bad . He just doesn’t always answer so I like to come in here and speak with people who are going through what I am . This is my third recurrence of depression and it has lasted two years with very minimal relief .

My ruminations were primarily associated to flashbacks from severe trauma...
He should absolutely be answering every question you have..
I do not have bipolar etc, I asked and wanted to ensure myself on that. We made sure... my md & I have a very good collaboration & discuss everything that’s going on...
I am on both Lexapro which is an antidepressant & take Xanax as needed, which is rare now ...
Is there anyway you can get a 2nd opinion???
If he’s not going to answer you, that’s not working with you on what you deserve as a patient...

I have been on antidepressants and anti anxiety. Couldn’t find one to work so he has added an antipsychotic to augment . This is my third depression and it has lasted for two years with little relief . In his defense, I email him a lot because of the ruminating and he answers most of them . I think he doesn’t answer everything because it feeds into my ruminating. I am miserable. Just can’t find any relief . Need something that will quiet my brain .
