Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking benzocaine otic (the active ingredient contained in Otocain) hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call you doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

skin rash;
-
severe itching or burning in your ear; or
-
pain, redness, or swelling of your ear.
Other less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as mild stinging, burning, or irritation in the ear.
