Side Effects of Neosporin - for the Consumer

Neosporin Plus Cream

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Neosporin Plus Cream:

Burning; itching; rash; stinging.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Neosporin Plus Cream:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); skin irritation not present before using Neosporin Plus Cream; worsening or recurrence of wound symptoms.

Neosporin Drops

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Neosporin Drops:

Mild burning, irritation, or stinging.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Neosporin Drops:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); changes in vision; continued redness, burning, swelling, or itching; eye discharge; eye pain; secondary infection.

Neosporin Ointment

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. When used in small doses, no COMMON side effects have been reported with Neosporin Ointment. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Neosporin Ointment:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); skin irritation, pain, burning, cracking, redness, or peeling not present before using Neosporin Ointment; worsening or recurrence of wound symptoms.

Adverse reactions have occurred with the anti-infective components of Neosporin Ophthalmic Ointment. The exact incidence is not known. Reactions occurring most often are allergic sensitization reactions including itching, swelling, and conjunctival erythema. More serious hypersensivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported rarely.

Local irritation on instillation has also been reported.
