Side Effects of Medicone - for the Consumer

Medicone Ointment

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. When used in small doses, no COMMON side effects have been reported with Medicone Ointment. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Medicone Ointment:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); rectal bleeding, redness, irritation, swelling, or pain.

Side Effects by Body System

Dermatologic

Dermatologic side effects have included contact dermatitis and urticaria.

Local

Local side effects have included burning and stinging.

Other

Other side effects have included edema.

Cardiovascular

Cardiovascular side effects have included angioedema.

Hematologic

Hematologic side effects have included methemoglobinemia. At least two cases have been reported of patients developing methemoglobinemia after administration of benzocaine-containing topical anesthetic spray.
