Side Effects of Elestat - for the Consumer

Elestat

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Elestat:

Cough; headache; infection (cold and upper respiratory tract infection); inflammation of hair follicles; mild burning, redness, or stinging of the eye; runny nose.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Elestat:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).

Elestat Side Effects - for the Professional

Elestat

The most frequently reported ocular adverse events occurring in approximately 1 - 10% of patients were burning sensation in the eye, folliculosis, hyperemia, and pruritus.

The most frequently reported non-ocular adverse events were infection (cold symptoms and upper respiratory infections) seen in approximately 10% of patients, and headache, rhinitis, sinusitis, increased cough, and pharyngitis seen in approximately 1 - 3% of patients.

Some of these events were similar to the underlying disease being studied.

Side Effects by Body System - for Healthcare Professionals

Ocular

Ocular side effects have included burning, folliculosis, hyperemia, and pruritus in 1% to 10% of patients.

Respiratory

Respiratory side effects have included cold symptoms and upper respiratory infections in 10% of patients, and headache, rhinitis, sinusitis, and pharyngitis in 1% to 3% of patients; some of which may have been due to the underlying disease.
