Previcid

Previcid is a common misspelling of Prevacid (lansoprazole).

What is Prevacid (Previcid)?

Prevacid (Previcid) is a proton pump inhibitor. It works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.

Prevacid (Previcid) is used to prevent or treat certain types of stomach and intestinal ulcers. Prevacid (Previcid) is also used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) (eg, heartburn) and irritation of the esophagus (erosive esophagitis). It is also used to treat conditions marked by excessive stomach acid production (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). Prevacid (Previcid) may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Once a duodenal ulcer or case of esophagitis has cleared up, the doctor may continue prescribing Prevacid (Previcid) to prevent a relapse. Prevacid (Previcid) is also prescribed to reduce the risk of stomach ulcers in people who develop this problem while taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil, Motrin, and Naprosyn.

Prevacid (Previcid) is also prescribed as part of a combination treatment to eliminate the H. pylori infection that causes most cases of duodenal ulcer.
