If you’ve taken one Zomig or Zomig-ZMT tablet, or one Zomig nasal spray for your migraine and still need more relief after 2 hours, you can take a second dose. You should not exceed 5 mg per single dose and a total dose of 10 mg in any 24-hour period. Zomig (zolmitriptan) is used to treat (not prevent) migraine headaches.

Zomig (zomitriptan) is a serotonin (5-HT) 1B/1D receptor agonist (often called a “triptan”). The tablet and nasal spray is used for the acute treatment of migraine (with or without aura).

How many Zomig can I take in a day or a week?

You can take two doses of Zomig tablets or nasal spray in a 24-hour period (one day) not to exceed a total dose of 10 mg. The maximum recommended single dose of Zomig is 5 mg.

  • For example if you took the 5 mg Zomig tablet or 5 mg nasal spray when your migraine first started, and your migraine symptoms are not relieved after 2 hours or return, you can take another 5 mg dose within a 24-hour (one day) period from your first dose. There is only 1 dose in each nasal sprayer (2.5 or 5 mg).
  • If you need to treat more than 4 migraine headaches per month with Zomig, contact your healthcare prescriber who can evaluate your treatment or headaches further.
  • This medicine is not meant to be taken everyday to help prevent a migraine. It is used to help stop a migraine that has already started.

How often can I take Zomig?

If you need to treat more than 4 headaches per month with Zomig, contact your doctor for further instructions. You may need a different dose or you may need an alternative medicine. The safety of Zomig in the treatment of an average of more than four headaches in a 30 day period is not known.
