Sodium bicarbonate is used in the treatment of urinary alkalinization; diabetic ketoacidosis; hyperkalemia; hyperuricemia secondary to chemotherapy; indigestion (and more), and belongs to the drug classes antacids, minerals and electrolytes, urinary pH modifiers. Risk cannot be ruled out during pregnancy. Sodium bicarbonate 10 grain (650 mg) is not subject to the Controlled Substances Act.
