having trouble with all BP meds I am having problems with all BP meds that they have put me on - mostly making me either real lethargic or making me a witch. The one that I felt good on, Lisinopril, gave me a rash, so that is out. Anyone else having these problems and if so what have you found that works? None have really controlled my BP that well, either.
Thanks ! -

Did you ever find any? Your post is a few months old. -
In the last six yrs i have tried the following: lisinopril ..cough cough; avapro...dizzy; toprol xl...can't exercise and eye problems; verapamil...calcifaction in heart & breast;norvasc..back pain + weight gain; all diuretics (hctz, lasix) caused rise cholester and glucose.....
I'm now on clonidine and verapamil, finally got my bp down, but it was a tough road. Good luck! -
Oh, because I am easing off...all drugs. With the way things are in the drug world..... there must be a better way. Now looking to natural things such as vinegar, garlic, exercise, weight loss, etc.
I get vertigo easily, and cough and etcs.. and can't take most of the things usually given. dash -
For one whole yr. my bp has constantly been running about 167/90 to 236/112. I just lost 20 pounds and my bp was 130/80 and it has remained there for three months. Maybe if i could lose another 20 lbs, my bp would be perfect. I am still taking verapamil (1/2 of 240mgs and clonidine .01 3x daily). Are you using apple cider vinegar? I read that red wine and apple cider vinegar can help clear the arteries. -
Hi, yes I am taking Apple Cidar Vinegar. I am fighting with weight. I lost 35 pounds, gained 10 back. I am not too fond of exercise, but would love to have a walking buddy to share walking with. Anyway, my bp is usually 112/72 or so ranging up to 138/85.
I have gotten down to 1/2 a 25 mg Atenolol pill and 1/2 a Cozaar 25 mg pill.
I have Prinzmetals disease (rare heart disease) where my heart goes into spasms.....(I had a heart attack in 2000) but I think it is from unbalance of potassium and magnesium and am eating a lot of nuts now (thus harder to lose weight) and I am allergic to sulfa and sulfites. ..(so can't eat many things) and diet is fun to manage. But I think that this disease is why they put me on the above pills.
I had another small heart attack hours after starting Atenolol....ended up in hospital... and never related it to that, until lately when my ins. co. said they will stop paying for my Cozaar after this month. Therefore, I have to use something else. So I started researching the drugs, and now believe that all of them are detrimental to me. I believe the Atenolol caused the heart attack... but I did not realize that could be a side effect til a few weeks ago.
In thinking about this, I remembered that it had been hours after I began the Atenolol that I had the attack.
I found out that there is sulfa in some of the B vitamins and after stopping them the swelling I have been fighting has abated. I can't take a lot of things...
I have a bad knee too so it is weight control that is my best friend.... to get the bp down and help the body in all ways.
Now it is on to more natural controls. I eat a lot of veggies, meat, nuts and some berries. No packaged no canned (except some fruit and veggies in winter) and try and eat lots of raw.
I think it is helping. MY colesteral is good went down after got off statins didn't tel the doc but diet was excellent. I am not a saint, fall off that too. But I keep trying.
I think Weight is so important. Wish it was not so hard to control. dash -
If you like feeling like you just took a shot of heroin, then clonidine might be a candidate for you ?
Seriously it makes you very drowsy, and is perfect for taking at bedtime. It is also a very powerful bp med and does a great job of signifigantly lowering the pressure, without any other adverse effects. The only drawback is it is a short acting medicene, and you will need another med during the day, as well.
I have been taking it for seven or more years with great success. (p.s. there are rampant totally unfounded rumours in the bodybuilding community that clonidine naturally releases small amounts of human growth hormone found naturaly in the body, therefore theoretically greatly increasing your weightlifting gains. -
Hi coming home, what is hgh? I take clonidine, at first it was 2 pills 3x daily. I cut it down to 3 pills daily. I take one in the a.m. and two at bedtime. I also take 120 mg of verapamil and i have not noticed a drastic drop in my bp.
Also, do you know if clonidine can cause glucose and cholesterol to rise?
