Interactions between your drugs
bendroflumethiazide selegiline
Applies to: Flumezide (bendroflumethiazide / rauwolfia serpentina) and selegiline
Selegiline and bendroflumethiazide may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate. These side effects are most likely to be seen at the beginning of treatment, following a dose increase, or when treatment is restarted after an interruption. Let your doctor know if you develop these symptoms and they do not go away after a few days or they become troublesome. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you, and use caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
bendroflumethiazide rauwolfia serpentina

Before taking bendroflumethiazide, tell your doctor if you also use rauwolfia serpentina. You may need dose adjustments or special tests in order to safely take both medications together. The blood pressure lowering effects of this combination may be additive. You should take rauwolfia serpentina at bedtime and to notify your doctor if have dizziness or feel faint. If you are currently being treated or have recently been treated with selegiline, initiating rauwolfia serpentina may cause high blood pressure and nervous system stimulation. You should generally wait at least 14 days after you are off selegiline before you start using rauwolfia serpentina. On the other hand, the interaction may not occur if you have been receiving rauwolfia serpentina and are starting treatment with selegiline. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience sudden and severe headache, blurred vision, confusion, seizures, chest pain, nausea or vomiting, sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), speech difficulties, fever, sweating, lightheadedness, and/or fainting during treatment with these medications, as these may be signs and symptoms of excessively high blood pressure.
