Drug Interactions between Citracal Calcium Gummies and Velphoro
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- Citracal Calcium Gummies (calcium/vitamin d)
- Velphoro (sucroferric oxyhydroxide)
Interactions between your drugs
ergocalciferol sucroferric oxyhydroxide
Applies to: Citracal Calcium Gummies (calcium / vitamin d) and Velphoro (sucroferric oxyhydroxide)
GENERALLY AVOID: Coadministration with sucroferric oxyhydroxide may reduce the oral bioavailability of vitamin D analogs. The proposed mechanism involves nonspecific adsorption to the ferric ion component of sucroferric oxyhydroxide, resulting in an insoluble complex that is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. According to the product labeling for sucroferric oxyhydroxide, an in vitro interaction with paricalcitol was observed when studied in aqueous solutions that mimic the physico-chemical conditions of the gastrointestinal tract.
MANAGEMENT: Oral formulations of vitamin D analogs should not be prescribed with sucroferric oxyhydroxide.

Drug and food interactions
calcium carbonate food
Applies to: Citracal Calcium Gummies (calcium / vitamin d)
ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Administration with food may increase the absorption of calcium. However, foods high in oxalic acid (spinach or rhubarb), or phytic acid (bran and whole grains) may decrease calcium absorption.
MANAGEMENT: Calcium may be administered with food to increase absorption. Consider withholding calcium administration for at least 2 hours before or after consuming foods high in oxalic acid or phytic acid.
